Wk of July 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Renee - :wizard: :wizard: for your friend!
Carrie - Glad to hear Scott's eyes are improving. Here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: to his continued recovery.
Cam - :worship: :worship: for you toughing out a workout with a migraine! YOU Rock!
Angie - Some of those back to school crowds can be pretty rough, for sure it counts as XT!
Leana - :wizard: :wizard: for Maggie. Good job on the 5 miles!
Lily - I LOVE the Vanilla BEan GU, I think it tastes like chocolate pudding. I also tried the TriBerry flavor and it too gets a :thumbsup2 .
Bill - Great job on the 5 miles, hopefully the Ticks don't send in a second wave.
SkyDave - Great job on the 4 miles in spite of the heat.
Hockeychic - A great workout, then a post workout XT session moving all that stuff around. :thumbsup2

No training to report. Day off to rest my legs and get ready to work tomorrow. My Fil, my 2 DS, and I went fishing out on his boat on the Mississippi today and it was HOT! Only catch was a 3 lb catfish that my youngest DS reeled in. He was quite excited. BUt seeing how none of us caught anything that was worth keeping, we set his free before we headed in. I asked him if he wanted to name it, he said he would call it "Dinner".

Happy Training!

Leana - How do those skirts run in size? I'm game to try out another brand and that looks like a good deal!

My run rocked today! :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

Remember I recalibrated my Nike+? Well, I hope it isn't wrong! I had to R12/W1 for 52 minutes today and I ended up going 5.26 miles at an average pace of 10:08!!! My first split was 9:44!!! I'm so happy!

So please tell me those who understand distances and paces - if my Nike+ had me at .22 instead of at .25 could my pace have really improved this much by recalibrating? I was averaging in the higher 12:00 ranges before. I double checked by recalibration twice - once by walking around the track and then again running. Could I really have been going this much faster all along? I did feel good this morning, though... :confused3

Erica and I went out for a nice warm 6 mile walk. Yesterday we did 9 miles so Erica is doing super, I'm proud of her. She doesn't do heat well so last year it was Sept before I could get her over 4 miles. Then she did great at the Mickey in January. So maybe our Goofy training will progress well after all.

Our goal is to keep in half marathon shape all the time but she hasn't had a good LSD since the Pig till this week.

I don't feel any soreness from the 5K race even though it was an ordeal with the heat and humidity.

Everyone have an awesome evening.

Dave:hippie:

Good evening from Altamonte Springs!

Had a pleasant 6.5 hour drive until we got to Ocala, and hit a large thunderstorm. We hit another large thunderstorm just west of Orlando also. Ahhhh, summertime in central Florida.

Once we got checked in we went out to look for somewhere to eat, found a Chili's, and right next door was a Fleet Feet. So, after dinner I went in to take a look (never been in one before). Talked with Eric (owner) and the conversation got around to my PF. He did a gait analysis (video) and recommended I try Super Feet inserts. So we put a pair in my Kayanos and video taped my gait again. You could definetly tell the differece on the video and they felt pretty good. I guess we'll see how they work.

Hoosmi - WTG with the 7 miler.

Dana - Glad to hear you have AC again.

Nancy - WTG with the 10 miler.

Martha - When we were on active duty, the same thing would happen to the DW. As soon as I left on temporary duty somewhere, something would break. Let me tell you about the $177.00 light switch sometime.

Stephanie - WTG with the TM 10 miler!

WWDave - Congrats on the raise!!

Andrew - Congrats on the 16 miler!

Jackie - PD for the DD.

Carrie - Congrats on the 10K! Glad to hear the DH is doing better.

Kristi - WTG with the training!

Renee - WTG with the 4 miler.

Angie - WTG with the 3 miler.

Leana - WTG with the 5 miler.

FLBill - Glad you could get out and get your run in.

MSDave - WTG with the 4 miler.

Beth - Great job with the training!

Diane - WTG with the training!

Sorry if I missed anyone. Y'all have a great night.

Did a 4 mile run tonight in 46:08 - avg 11:32. Last week I did the same 4 miles at 3R/1W and averaged 11:22. Tonight I wasn't feeling real great when I started, so I opted for 2R/1W, and still averaged 11:32. Amazing that the intervals don't make that much difference! Galloway keeps telling us that, but it's hard to believe until you actually do it. The best part about tonight's run was that my third mile was the quickest (11:16), and that was the mile with the hills in it!

Off to take a shower...

Jackie

Vic: $177.00 light switch? Is it gold plated?

Jackie: the best thing I did for those black eyes was to go swimming. The cool water took the swelling down nicely. Of course I was quite the circus freak; everyone was "just walking by" so they could see it better. At one point, my left eye was so swollen, it was completely shut. My Mom came in my room the first morning it was like that and couldn't help but giggle. She said I looked just like a cartoon charater the way they are drawn with just a slit of the eye opening! I'm sure I didn't react all that well to that remark! The first few days of school I told everyone, including the teachers, what happened and pointed out the eye so everyone got a real good look at it which stopped most of the stares!

Hey, everybody! I just got finished running 6 miles on the TM. The run was okay, my legs felt tired and heavy, but I got my steps in. Now to keep myself from eating the 600 calories I just burned....;)

Jackie--I don't want to push you into anything you don't feel ready for, but I think you are more than ready to conquer 26.2 miles in January. Lots of people do a full marathon before their first half, plus you can always run the Raleigh half and that can be your official first long distance race. Good luck deciding!!!

Vic--I hope the inserts work for you!!!!

SW Dave--Yep, pre season kicks off this Sunday, the Steelers vs. the Saints. To keep you up to date, all the drafts picks signed their contracts and Polamalu signed a 5 year extension on his contract. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Have a great night everyone!!!!

Thanks, guys for the welcome back. It’s good to know I wasn’t completely forgotten.

Bill—Good job on the run in those conditions, and way to go on the tick problem (in any other circle of friends, that sentence would just sound so absolutely messed up).

Dave—Dave, is that you? What the heck—when did you change the picture in your signature? I guess I really have been gone too long. Good to hear from you again. Sounds like you’re cranking out the miles. Nice job. When are you going to sign up for January so I have someone to motivate me to actually keep a pace??

Kim—did you count moving the equipment around in your workout room as cross training, too? I think it counts! :thumbsup2

Dana—your AC was out in Florida in the middle of the summer? I would die. Glad you got it fixed. I’m going to stop talking about this. I’m getting hot and sweaty just thinking about no AC. Is it winter yet?

Renee—congrats on making the January reservation!

Jackie—go for it, run the Disney full. I promise you, you’ll be so glad you did. Better hurry, it’s 85% full…….86%........87%......... ;)

WW Dave (and Erica)—you guys did 6 miles today after 9 yesterday?? Wow, way to go! Good to hear from you guys again. We had such a great time chatting with you guys during the Pig weekend. I can’t believe that was 2 ½ months ago!

Ok, I know I’ve missed a ton of you, so HI to everyone else. It’s good to get back on here again and chat. I feel like I’ve been missing about 30 of my friends lately.

Had a 4 mile stonker run today in the 256 degree heat with 155% humidity. :sad2: But that’s ok, you have to take the bad ones to make the good ones that much better, right?

Hope everyone has a good evening. Talk to you all later!

Steve

Cam - I'm amazed that you managed to work out with the migraine. I have to take drugs, wait it out, and then decide if the workout is possible. Once again, you're amazing!
Oh - you should appreciate this one. I get a call at lunch today from DD (second day of band camp): "Is it okay if I march the bass drum?" Mind you, she's a flute/piccolo player! Apparently they have twice as many flutes as they need and no drumline, so she's switching. :confused3

Okay, Jackie, that just cracked me up about your DD! My friend's daughter picked a college with a really good colorguard and then decided to march cymbals! I thought my friend was going to flip!

Thank you, everyone for your kind WISHes re: my migraine. It was nearly gone tonight (just that residual achy pain you feel where it used to be) so I got in 30 minutes on the elliptical because there were no TMs available (our gym is under construction so there is less equipment right now)

Andrew -- congrats to DS on catching that catfish! Poor kid -- tossing back his dinner. I hope he had something equally delicious to eat! :)

Vic-- I hope the inserts help!

Steve -- welcome back! We've missed you. And here I thought we'd be catching up with you at CDC. Don't worry, I've cried all my tears on missing so many of our WISH friends who cant' make it that weekend! ;)

Jackie and Shan -- awesome pace!

WWDave & Erica -- those are some pretty impressive back to back distances!

Howard and I are heading to the Catskills Thursday night for DS14's performance weekend at his performing arts camp. It was so beautiful up there last summer when we went for our LR/W, except for the fact that so many roads and bridges were washed out from the flooding. I am hoping we can get in some miles Friday morning (we aren't allowed at the camp until 1:45 pm) and on Saturday morning. BTW, DS had someone in costuming take his measurements for his marching band uniform and he sent them to me. He has grown 1+ inches at camp and is now officially taller than me. I know he's thrilled! :goodvibes I'm just glad we didn't buy his dress pants and blazers for HS before he left for camp! ;)

The dog and I got in 2 miles tonight. :thumbsup2 It sure is hot out there. The dog is still panting, and we have been home 45 minutes! I am headed out of town tomorrow on business. I better start packing. :scared1:

Only have time for a quick drive by. But I wanted to report my training. No training yesterday but I did manage 3 miles on the treadmill in the exact time I did the 5k on Saturday (34.46) Might do a long walk/run tomorrow on the treadmill but I plan on getting out on the road on Thursday AM and plan on doing 3 miles. Then a long run on the weekend - most likely on the treadmill.

Oh and I figured out what my treadmill problem was - where it went to full speed and wouldn't stop without pulling the key thing - I thought I would have the best of both worlds and walk on the treadmill and surf the net!! Guess the laptop and the treadmill don't like each other and malfunctioned!! Guess I will have to stick to movies!! LOL Guess that totally makes me a member of the YARC!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the PD for my stomach issues. I'm going to have to have an endoscopy next to look around but probably won't get that scheduled until after CDC.

Kristi...thanks, that makes me feel better, though I'm sorry you're in the club too. I'm a little afraid to eat now and looking at the diet they want me to follow is depressing.

Krista...waaaay past ready for some football!!! Word from training camp is we may see a shotgun offense with Jeff Garcia this year. Are you guys sure you don't want to come to CDC????

Jackie...DD14 started band camp yesterday too, but she hasn't wanted to change her instrument yet. They're doing a pirate theme show this year pirate: DH signed up as a volunteer. I think he's secretly hoping they'll let him play with the drums ;)

Andrew...great fish story!

Carrie...PD for Scott's continued improvement. That must have been frightening.

Uh oh...laptop battery dying! 'Nite everyone!

Checking in to WISH all a good night. I'm tired. Visit with cousins went well. We even took a short walk (1 mile) in the heat of the afternoon where I take my steps. They wanted to see and I was able to offer a little history lesson to the kidlets too. We had a great hot walk!

Nite nite all.

Hi everyone, crazy busy day today.

First off, Maggie had her abdominal ultrasound today. Apparently she has a very interesting stomach and her case is going in the teaching file. Her stomach wall is twice the thickness it should be, which is pretty unusual. Plus she has a mass partially blocking the exit of her stomach, which is why she throws up as much as she does (and here I thought it was her supplementing her diet with grass, dirt, socks...) She'll probably need a biopsy, because best case scenario it is an inflammation that can be treated. Worst case scenario it is a tumor. The radiologist seems to think it is likely less severe, because if it were a tumor it would probably be affecting her a lot more. Apparently the fact that she hoovers her food up like nobody's business is a good sign.

Managed to make it to boot camp too - will post details tomorrow but it was a good workout. I'm sure I'll be feeling it.

Shan - yes, I would say the skirts run pretty true to size.

Have a good night everyone.

Hello, WISH team mates!
Everyone is doing so well...except for maybe the puppies of the family!
Leana, I sent off for one of those skirts. I didn't see any modeled by large people, tho in the photo section....May be donating it to someone at ToT!! :rotfl: This is for your Maggie pixiedust: and lots of it!!
Here's my posting from the Walking thread:

I went to the podiatrist (sports medicine) today. I had some ankle pain in the last mile of my 8 mile LW last Saturday. After icing, Aleve and rest, I bit the bullet and made the appointment. It seems I have a heel spur in my right foot that has decided to flare up. This, after 19 months of walking and CDC in two weeks!!:furious: So, I got a cortisone shot, have my heel supports, am wearing my walking boot, taking Aleve, will ice tonight, and am now trying to figure out a way to complete CDC. Use canes? Crutches? Wheelchair? :confused3 Forget the wheelchair, I know that I could NOT roll a wheelchair for 13.1 miles!! :sad2: Will see how everything is in a week of dutifully staying off of it. I can handle DLF, DNS would mean twice in one year...and THAT AIN'T RIGHT (Dave ;) ).

Anyone else have experience with heel spurs, short of surgery? Surgery is only an option after a YEAR of all other non invasive remedies have been attempted. :sad1:

DH said, "Well, maybe you are only supposed to do Mickey's races! ::MickeyMo " This because of the DNS for the Snickers Half in March, and now the possible DNS at CDC! Funny man...siiighhh. :goodvibes Anne

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for a run this morning before it gets too hot out there. It's great reading everyone's posts. Thanks for helping me get out the door.

Done being MIA!!!!!!!!

Okay--sorry about being MIA....I will have to try and figure out a unique way to keep up with everyone. We started homeschooling and hubby now works at home (way cool!!!!) so my computer time is quite limited.

I was thinking of subscribing to teh weeklies and getting summaries so I don't miss out on what everyone is doing. And then post summaries as I am able to catch up with everyone!

It is not my intention to be an AAM (all about me poster!!!!)

So please forgive me in advance!

Anyway---yeah--hopped on the treadmill for the 2nd time this week. Wahoo!

5 minute warmup: 3 mph (20 mm pace)
15 minutes powerwalking: 4mph (15 mm pace)
8.5 minutes (3/4 mile) run: 6mph (10mm pace)
10 minute powerwalking: 4mph (15mm pace)
5 minute cool down: 3mph (20mm pace)

I think I went almost 3 miles but cannot remember.

But the arthroscopic surgery to remove my meniscus tear in my knee almost 2 years ago.....I am seeing the BIG payoff now.:cool1:

I had planned starting last week---but got mastitis  . They aren't kidding when they say that knocks you down. It was like I had severe bad flu until I got my antibiotics. Healing nicely but fearful that it may return once I am off the medicine.

This week I will be drafting the training schedule for myself and hubby. Him being home makes long runs a bit more easy to plan. Both DDs will be playing soccer in the fall so 10 weeks of soccer games on Saturdays thrown into the mix.

We have a couple of cruises coming up that will make training interesting.

I am due for shoes, but cannot cash flow that this month (Dave Ramsey converts!). So September 1st--I have a date for the shoe store.

Contemplating staying at my brothers house by the airport to save money. Haven't quite decided just yet.

Morning team! Got a 4 miler on my plate this morning and then work this evening. Yesterday was a rest day, so nothing to report there.

Lisa--Oh no on the mastitis. I've been there-not fun! It was like a cruel joke to have a 2 week old infant and a 103 fever at the same time--Blech! Great job on the WO!

Dave--Glad that we can help boot you out the door!;)

Leana--PD for your furbaby!:wizard: Praying it's just inflammation!

Heather--Have a good trip

Anne--no experience with heel spurs here. Hope the cortisone shot give you some relief and that you won't need surgery. Hopefully, you'll not have a DNS, but if you do, we all know it's not cuz you didn't want to be out there

Mel--PD for your endoscopy!:wizard:

Cam--Wow your DS is getting big! They grow so fast don't they? I bought DD some tennis shoes this summer on clearance, hoping that they would last through most of the winter term of school--and she's already almost grown out of them! Yikes! Have a fun trip this weekend.

Krista--Oh we're ready for some football here! I don't think I was around much for last year's season, but DH is a HUGE football fanatic--but don't shoot him, he's a Brown's fan---guess comes from living in the Cleveland area for 18 years. I've been getting the "first game countdown" for a couple weeks now. Most Sat. we have at least 2 TVs going watching games, and then it's rush home from church on Sunday to watch whatever games are on.

Steve--Wow 256 degrees! Remind me never to visit Cincinnati in the summer!;)

Okay, the kidlets have found me--need to get off of here! Have a great Wed. all!

morning team :surfweb:

you all were :rotfl2: me up about my username :teeth: back in the day when i first registered on the DIS, i ran it past my computer-geek-DH (works in IS at a major international company) and he said, fine to register but don't use anything remotely like your real name. so, since i'm not very creative I thought 'ohiomom' but since i'm not big on capitalizing when i'm typing it came out 'ohMom' -- oops. oh well. too late to change it. and funny thing is over the years i've had several DISer think i'm (insert sarcastic whiny teenager voice) "ooohhhhh! mmmmooomm" so now it makes good converation :thumbsup2

new puppy?? what kind?? forgive me as i'm still learning everyone -- my DD almost 15 has a mini-longhaired doxie here training her along with our 2 dogs and the barking! JEESH the BARKING!! driving me nutso! she too is at band camp this week, and i'm here listening to BARKING!!

:welcome: back LLpooh:

anne -- i'm sooo sorry to hear of your heel spurs!! i have only small ones now, so i don't have any wisdom just  and hang in there! seems like if the docs can get it managed through your upcoming 1/2 and give you the go-ahead than git 'er done! how about 1/2 of a 1/2? than no DNS on record :cool2:

and just for the record -- another blonde moment here -- i didn't get on and register yesterday for the Columbus 1/2! DULP!! i was super tired when i got home from the band parent mtg i didn't even turn the pc back on -- well at least i saved someone else some cashola

Everyone here is so busy! Life gets like that! I did get my 5 miles in on the treadmill last night......so BORING! I truely hate the treadmill, but when it's so hot what else is there to do???:confused3 I also got 60 min of strength training in too. I was really tired last night after the 2 hours of gym time.

Tonight will hopefully be another 4 or 5 miles on the treadmill and a stretch class (if I am not dead on the floor :scared1: )

ohMom: I love your username! I like knowing how it came to be was somewhat of an accident!:)

Anne: :wizard: Sending you PD so you will heal soon.

Lisa: I am so sorry about the mastitis! It certainly does take the wind out of your sails! :wizard: Sending PD to you too, to get well soon.

Steve: Good job on the very hot/humid run......sometimes just getting the steps in is such an accomplishment!

To everyone else :flower3: sending you all good wishes for the day ahead and our training plans!

Beth
