Wk of July 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Sunny - Don't sell yourself short. With all that you've gone through , just from reading your posts on the boards, I can easily say that you have risen above the pack and taken your training to new levels. Most in your situation would quit (or take a long haitus), and no one knowing what they are going through would blame them. But you did not go gently into that good night (at least Robert Frost would say so), you persevered and continued. You deserve the accolades and kudos you receive here on the WISH boards. Best of luck to your ongoing treatment. Hope to see you on the race course again someday!
WWDave - Congratulations on passing your exam for licensure. It's great when hard work pays off, and the extra $$$ helps too!
Craig - Great race, and a great commentary. I imagine before you leave Colorado, you'll break a 7 minute mile, either at the Track Meet or on your own.
Angie - Super job on the TM work!
lourodrigis - Great work on the LR. I would have more trouble trying to pronounce Schuylkill, thank heavens for cut and paste!

Well, camping this week was somehat of a bust...it rained every day we were out there. If it wasn't raining during the day, the heat and humidity was out (steam was literaly coming off of the blacktop roads). My first run was cut short as it started to sprinkle (no biggee), then rain harder (well, I was going to get wet sweating anyway), but then I saw even darker clouds rolling in with lightning (Biggee :scared1: ) so I turned around after 15 min and scootted back before the next deluge hit. My next run got cut chort because for some reason my shins deciced to cramp severly every time I tried to run more than a couple of minutes. This has never happened before. Cramping so bad I was limping. Tried retying my shoes, running slower, stretching them, all to no avail so I went back to the camper defeated and dejected. Wednesday we packed up am came home. Thursday morning I got in a 4.5 mile run (r4/w2) with no difficulty, I even was able to pick up the pace a bit. :confused3 I dunnoh what was up with the shin thing!
Worked last night and got up about an hour ago. Tomorrow is my 14 mile LR.
The weather is supposed to be glorious!
Happy training!

I will try to catch up with this thread as I have been away all week. Just back from a week with the family at WDW. Although I did not do any official training, I did get in lots of walking in the theme and water parks each day (with a couple of "wicked" blisters to show for it). The walking included carrying gear for 6 and occassionally a good sized 5 year old. Overall, I think I'll count it as some type of training. I also managed to stay somewhat on track with the healthy eating (relatively speaking for WDW standards), staying below the 400 lbs. mark. I figure all the water and other liquids I drank while there will take a couple days to work their way out of the system. I plan to try to recover some this weekend and begin serious healthy eating and half marathon training Monday. If I'm lucky and win the lottery or something similar, maybe I'll even do the ToT.

I finally got to walk a mile :cool1: :cool1: Took me 19:07 :sad2: , but at least I got the steps in.

The ankles feel ok. Surgical one was a little sore towards the end of the walk, but I guess it was a good soreness (gotta lose the scar tissue). I'm gonna do another mile tomorrow and see how the back-to-back days feel.
Boy, the Doc wasn't kidding when he said I'd haveto start from scratch. I was a little tired when I finished and it was only one mile!

Sunny - hang in there. We're all sending you good WISHES!

lourodrigis - I love that route on the Schuylkill! Before I got injured that was my regular training route for last year's Goofy. Once I get my mileage back up, I'll be out there again. I like to ride my bike around that loop, too.:)

WWDave - I know what you mean about our WISH shirts. I like to wear them in any race I do. Kinda makes me feel like I have the support of everyone here and keeps me motivated during the race.

Kristi - You're not the only one. I haven't read or seen any of the Harry Potter books/movies. My nephews like them, but that genre is not my cup of tea. :confused3
