Wk of Jul 16--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

OK, total drive-by here (I promise to catch up tonight....really I do....)

Question for all you who stayed at the Swolphin last year: Does transportation run to all of the marathon events (race starts, Expo, etc)?? Did you enjoy your stay?? Feel like you were missing out on it not being a "Disney" resort??

Here's my quandry-- My original plan was to stay at the Dolphin on my first night, then move over to the Poly for the next seven nights. Well, looking over the rates (AP, Entertainment, etc), if i moved the whole stay over the the Dolphin, I'd save literally thousands of dollars. I'm conflicted. :confused3 Advice??

And just to make this running related... I am on course to do a 20+ mile week-- easily the longest since the race. I have to say I am enjoying it much more now that I am actually "training." Details later...

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Hi WISH Team!

Helen, PD for you as you deal with Kitty. I know it is not an easy thing.

Sunny, PD to you. Hope it gets better soon.

Beckah, you are up for a challenge it seems. I know you will love both. Just don't overtrain.

Cecilia, Welcome! Sounds like you have a good plan to get you ready to train for the "big event."

We all have a design for our WISH Team shirts. I wonder if you would be interested in that design even if it is too late to order a shirt, it may be something you can have put on a shirt of your choice.

Everyone, I am sending PD to you for all the aches that seem to be cropping up that they go away once the training to train phase is over.

I'm still not at it exactly. I seem to let too many outside influences stifle my dedication.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I stayed at the Swan in 2006 and I know Heather (TxBelle) and Colleen(princessmomma) did also. It was just DH and I and the Swan was great. A very nice hotel in a location that cannot be beat. There were multiple buses waiting out front to transport people to the expo and on race morning also. The best part was being able to walk back through EPCOT to the hotel post-marathon. Not having to get on a bus or a monorail was great. Also, on the walk back through EPCOT I was able to cheer on fellow runners nearing completion, which was a definite bonus. As a disclaimer, I am partial to the EPCOT resort area and I have never stayed at the POLY. I am a huge penny-pincher which is why I can travel so frequently. :rotfl2: However, I have stayed at AKL, BCV, VWL & BWV for past marathon weekends and the Swan was not lacking in the magic. I hope that helps...

OK, I have to tell someone because I'm so excited about the plans for the marathon weekend. I can't tell DW because she still doesn't know I'm making all these arrangements. If my training goes OK, I'll break it to her in October that we're going. Kind of like Jodi's doing. Anyhow, I made a bunch of dinner ressies, and so excited I was able to get what I wanted for DD8's princess: 9th birthday which will be on Saturday, January 6th. I booked breakfast with the princesses at Cinderella's castle at 8:15am, and dinner at Chef Mickey's at 5:30p. There's going to be lots of birtday celebrating going on! My only concern is the breakfast reservation is going to interfere with cheering on the WISH team 1/2 marathoners, but maybe I can do some cheering after we eat? :confused3

Things are coming together!!!

Now, I just need to get over this leg injury...

Dave -- That sounds so exciting! Glad to see your plans coming together.

All I have done so far (beyond resort ressies and Goofy and Mickey registrations) is our celebratory dinner ADR at LeCellier after the full.

Cam- That's too funny. I also made an ADR for a celebratory dinner at LeCellier for after the full, but I just cancelled it today. They only had a 7:40p time for our party of 5 - which is a little late for my princesses princess: princess: to wait for dinner. OK, forget that, it's late for me too. Plus, I was thinking that it might not be the best place for my two little ones, DD9 (by one day) princess: and DD5 princess:, and then I was thinking if I'd be able to handle a big steak dinner after the marathon. Anyhow, I changed the reservation to an early dinner (6:00p) at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I thought after the full and walking around EPCOT it would be fun to eventually go back to WL, hang out, enjoy the pool, and enjoy the resort. Plus, I thought, WCC is probably a little more kid friendly than LeCellier. [Not that I've actually ever been to either place.]

I have only made 2 ressies, celabratory dinner at Ohanas after the 1/2 and lunch at Crystal Palace with Pooh.

Dave - We are staying at WL, so maybe I will see you whooping it up at WCC. I have only had breakfast there with DH, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I have watched people in there from the lobby during dinner time and the food looks tasty!

OK, this whole waiting to find out if I have asthma thing is really bringing me down. I am still planning on my 4 miler tomorrow morning, but will take it easy and for sure have my water bottle with me. Maybe that is what killed me last night (it was hot and we took a longer route without knowing before, so I didn't bring water).

I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend. Good luck to all the racers. Can't wait for your reports (I live for that on Sunday when I check in!!)

Dave -- Good call on LeCellier. It is certainly our favorite restaurant, but I wouldn't expect little kids to truly enjoy the food or the atmosphere. Whispering Canyon is a perfect choice! My big concern is whether Howard will be in any condition to walk back to EPCOT from Beach Club Villas after doing the Goofy Challenge and how I'll feel after doing my first full marathon. LeCellier is relatively close to the International Gateway and I KNOW we won't want to miss that dinner, so I am remaining optimistic. Of course, we want to get to Pleasure Island that night so it probably is best to keep moving, anyway.

Jen -- good luck with your 4 miles tomorrow. I know what it's like to not be able to get enough breath in your lungs. I am still having lung capacity issues after 10 years of a heart condition that resulted in severely depleted oxygen flow through the body. Of course, I could stand to lose at least another 35 pounds, so that may explain my situation! ;)

Well, I am supposed to cross-train tonight (30 mins, I think), but we will be bowling with friends, so that will have to suffice. I'll check in tomorrow after our 5k to see how everyone is doing. :grouphug: :goodvibes: :cool1:

Hi Everyone,

Taking tonight as a rest night -- I'm super beat from work....It was non-stop today.

Cam -Good luck on your 5k as well......I think I will be running in the rain but I'm still looking forward to it!

Dave - You're plans sound wonderful for the suprises....hehe - so, I'm not the only one sneaking around making arrangements. I do most of my preparing at work. You're such a good Dad and Husband :thumbsup2 I say just go for breakfast the morning of the half - you could always cheer people afterwards....you can cheer us on anytime but birthdays and suprises are priceless :goodvibes Just my opinion ;)

Well, that's it for me right now -- I will try to check in later,

Jodi

Yep, I have actually been looking forward all this week to my 10m LW tomorrow! How did that happen?? I've found myself checking the weather conditions for Sat AM, hoping for clear skies so I can be outside instead of using the TM as usual. AND I have been doing intervals on the TM all week, instead of "just" walking. What the heck :confused3

I still intend to take it nice and easy on the 13th at the Chicago Distance Classic because the DL Inaugural is not that long afterward. Now if I could only convince myself to push away from the table a little sooner I will be in great shape :cool1:

Oh Pat you have me laughing! Yes, you have crossed over. Welcome my friend!
:teeth:

Just a quick post before I start my day -- a little nervous about today's 5k, mostly nervous about the weather but very excited to be doing it!

I probably won't get to check back in with everyone again until very late tonight or tomorrow, after the race we will be going to spend time with Bob's sister - she's down for a visit (from Boston) but this is her goodbye trip -- she's moving to California.

Cam - if you check in before your race today -- I just want to wish you good luck :thumbsup2

Have a great training day everyone!

Good luck to everyone racing today!!!!!! :cheer2:

Yesterday I did my 3 miles in 14:03 :cool1: I am finally getting my grove back.
Today is xt so I'm going to do the Turbo Jam again. Its great for abs!

Pat-Yep, you are "one of them" My best friend doesnt understand my new obsession with these races. She asked how long I had to do this weekend (6 miles) and her response was "ugh, that doesnt sound like fun" She just doesnt understand. I tried to get her into this but she's not biting.

Jen-maybe you can keep bugging them & see if they have a cancellation. You probably need a puffer (inhaler) to use before exercising.

Kevin-to save thousands the Swolphin (I love that name)is an awesome hotel! I have never stayed there but I've heard the beds truly are heavenly and I went over there on my last visit to pick up a rental car & the grounds & lobby are really nice.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Just a quick post to wish everyone the best of luck with races this weekend!

No sleep last night since DD5 had her knees firmly planted between my shoulder blades for the duration. Therefore, my scheduled LR will be moved until tomorrow. Today I opted to weight train at the Y followed by some time in the steam room. I am going to do some yoga/pilates and stretching soon. I need to squeeze a nap in also...

Dave - Congrats on making the reservations for DD's birthday. I hope you recover from your injury soon.

Tiff - Congrats on the run. Some people just don't get it!!

Pat - Enjoy the run outside.

In 8 short weeks there will be a WISH meet in DL!! Happy training.

By now I think that everyone has raced that will be today. Hope it all went fantastic!

I did it! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I went out this a.m. I did 5 miles in 1 hr 15 min. That's ok! It was raining oh so gently and I wsa out in it! Whee!

Have a great day everyone.

Hope all you racing today had a good race!

I was out early this morning for a brick...I was hoping to do 16mi in an hour on the bike and then 2 mi. running. Well, the bike about killed me and it took me an hour and 20 min. I was WAY slow and so ticked off. I got back to the van and realized that the back brake was rubbing - probably the whole way. I was riding a rails-to-trails course and usually the out is hard and back is a breeze - uphill and then down. Even the down was work, I just couldn't coast at all. So, I think I know why.  I am hoping that my next ride will seem a lot easier after that! So, I opted to walk for 20 minutes after that workout and went about 1.5 miles.

Yesterday I ran in the middle of the day and didn't do as well as I would have liked. I went out too quickly and had to walk for a bit in the middle. Still trying to figure out the pacing thing.

All the plans you guys are making are getting ME excited! I guess I need to start planning for real now, too! Yay!

Bekah

Greetings Everyone:

Jodi and Cam- I hope your 5ks went well! Can't wait to hear about them, and anyone else that might have been racing too.

Yesterday I did a 3.04 mile wog in 42:37 min/14:01 mpm alternating walking and running. My right shin was sore and swelled up by the end, but it wasn't too bad. And sometimes during the running part it didn't hurt at all. I iced immediately when I got home.

This morning I did a 60 min SWOG (deep water run) in the pool. I'm feeling tired now.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Everyone,

Just got back from the race a little bit ago --- I had a fantastic time....so far this is my favorite race.

After the race we were able to check out many military vehicles, what a blast to be able to walk through the aircraft.

Oh I finished the race in about 30.30, I'm pretty happy with the time.

For those of you interested you can check out photos that I've loaded to Yahoo: Space Race

Looking forward to hearing from Cam :goodvibes

Did anyone else run? I can't remember :confused3

Great job Jodi!!! :cool1: :cool1: You've really come a long way. What was your time in your first 5k a few months ago? I like the pictures too, thanks for posting the link. What was up with the inflatable monkey?

Oh - the race a few months ago....that was a 10k, the 5k back in April was a couple of seconds more in pace but I felt better during this race. The 10k I think I did in a little bit more than an hour.....so I pretty much have the same average.

Not sure, about the Monkey - I just never saw one before so I thought I'd take a picture....I think it may have been a mascot of one of the vendors or something. :teeth: I also never saw someone on stilts before so I took a picture of that too!
