Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Love the idea of a tech shirt. I only realized at marathon weekend that I needed WISH stuff for my scream team too! I was able to give them a shirt, visor, and hat (good thing I don't pack light!) So I want some for me and my peeps!:cool1:

I have race ready shorts (the ones with the pockets). They are a nice light material. I wore them for the full and had no problems. Don't know about the shirts, but the shorts are great. I'd love a v-neck too if possible, but whatever we can get is fine!

Got to go vote on some pictures now.:thumbsup2

:welcome: Allyson, and more welcomes MsMighty!!

I too feel "new" here - but its such a warm fuzzy welcoming TEAM - that you really arent new for long - maybe a post or two!! *G

Shoes What Ms Might said - :rotfl2: at the "cute" part - because, sorry, I dont care how good they feel I refuse to wear an ugly shoe - of course I wear crocs, so my idea of "ugly" may be impaired!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I pronate - severe - and have long feet - they made me try on a size 12 :scared1: That really bummed me out - - until I ran in the Half!! :woohoo: I didnt appreciate those shoes until I ran the half!! They were just "ok" shoes - until I ran the Half!! I'm going back to the specialty shoe store and give them a (hug)!! They also recommended socks - I was mighty skeptical (I have size 12, and I'm running a half - dont I need bigger socks.... "trust me" - and darned if he wasnt right on!!) I'm going to talk him into ordering the goo blocks!! I need those things!!

Allyson thanks also for posting your progress - its a big deal for me too!! I keep thinking of the Biggest Loser show, and get back on and try and go for just 30 min... It IS a big deal!! WTG!!

Jen do you have the long shorts? I made dh buy the race ready with pockets at the Expo - he LOVES them!! I would just like a bit of "coverage" in the length! but I want pockets and NO MORE fanny pak!!

Shirts good point on needing a scream team shirt - is it at all possible to get a shirt in by the Shamrock Shuffle, I'd love to order one for future daughter in law and ds!! (either way I'll be ordering 2 or more!)
(eta - that race is coming up faster than an order - but no worries - we'll be ready for the CDC!!) woohoo!!

They also recommended socks - I was mighty skeptical

I bought coolmax socks (I forget which brand) that have no stitching because I HATE getting little rubby bits on my feet from bunched up stitching. Well worth the money, except that DH wears the same size socks so I can see them getting mixed up! But well worth the money, I thought.

Amazon sometimes has good deals on bulk goo blocks, too, if you are willing to buy in bulk. I bought a variety of goos and gels and things to try to make sure none of it upsets my stomach--not something I want to discover mid-event!

Count me in for a Tech shirt, too.

If they're sized llike the Disney marathon shirts, that's great. They fit me well and are so comfy. Not too tight and not too loose.

Also, got so many good comments on the shirt during the races.

Good morning everyone!

Count me in on the shirt order. I'll be happy to let the rest of you with more running/racing experience figure out what would be the best style to get. Right now, it is so cold here that I can't imagine running in a sleeveless shirt!

Well, I've completed my first two weeks and run consistently 3 times a week both weeks! Yay! I'm only running 2-2 1/2 miles each time, but I really feel good about it.

On to week three! Thanks for being here. Every time I've started this before I've been on my own, and it makes such a difference to have a team behind me.

Shirts...I was looking at the lime colored shirts as that is traditionally the disboards color. They didn't have the womens vneck on the website in lime, but I sent an email asking about other options. They do seem to have more styles in yellow so we could consider another color option if everyone's in agreement (please don't make me wear yellow...please don't make me wear yellow). Same front and back design...it's been working well for a long time, though a lot of folks confuse us with the Make a Wish foundation. We tried to make it more obvious that wasn't us after the first year, but no luck so far.

Bill...my best answer to your questions is I don't know. I think Chester ran the full in a RaceReady lime green tank so he'd be the one to ask. The club outfitting page says they print on a variety of fabrics so we may be able to get swatches before we order. They do have a page on the website with local retailers listed so you could check out their products, but unfortunately, none listed in MA.

Since we're talking about gear, any interest in more WISH bracelets? I was thinking about placing another order sometime later this year. Here's what they looked like last time:

I'm with you on the yellow. I noticed on the site it did say that they had other colors for team order, so I was hoping that that would work (scoopnecks work, but I didn't see ANY of those....).

Mel,
I would definitely be interested in ordering several bracelets. I must have missed the order the last time.
Also, a tech style shirt would be good, but I think it's really important to keep the color WISH green. I can't tell you what an advantage it was as both a spectator and a participant to spot WISHers from so far away. My kids did not wear WISH shirts and my husband almost missed seeing them (they actually spotted him with the shirt). Me, he could see a mile away and was able to take photos. In fact, when I was cheering for the half, my son told me I actually snubbed a fellow WISHer unintentionally. Apparently she was running with a little WISH sign instead of a t-shirt. My focus was on a WISHer just a few yards behind that had a shirt and so I never saw the person with the little sign. After she passed, my son said, "Gee Mom that was harsh. She looked right at you and you didn't even acknowledge her" So to whomever that WISHer was, I sincerely apologize. It was not my intention to snub you, but next time PLEASE wear a shirt...even if you have to borrow one.

I love the idea of new shirts. I think Chad might even want one now.
I never in a million years thought I'd say this, but...
I prefer staying green, rather than yellow. The lime stands out alot more and we all are conditioned to recognize it at this point.

And was someone talking about goo? ;)

That was probably me with my WiSH fabric...and it did work for most of the wishers out there along the course but definitely it was missed on a few occasions LOL. I am a very superstitious person (in terms of sports) and I always wear my race shirt from the previous race that I did. So I had my San Jose shirt on (lime green mind you) and used my wish shirt logo in lime green as a fabric sign for when i passed any wishers either on or along the course, wore it around my race belt and held it up every time I saw Wishers. I didn't feel snubbed out there :)....I realized that it wasn't always noticed when I held it up past Wishers....but I know that there were several of us without the shirts on and for the most part it worked ok. With that said it's VERY easy to spot the scream teams (I would wear the shirt for cheering...this year I did both races so couldn't scream). And it's pretty cool to see those shirts as you come running up along someone. :goodvibes For me....I wear the tech shirts from my previous race as good luck....so I'm not meaning to be disrespectful at all of the WiSh Green :). It's a VERY comforting color out there along the course and I will carry my green fabric with me for all my races as a security blanket of sorts.

I vote we stay with lime-green.

I vote to keep the WISH color like it is now. A possible change is make RACING TEAM a little larger under the WISH on the front. I like that color because I can see my mates from a long way off.

Frozen Panda:hippie:

I would like a shirt as well. It would make it easier for me to me fellow WISH folks as I'm very shy.

You can add me! I'm trying to "walk out of obesity", and I've plunked down my $100 for the Jan 2009 1/2 Marathon!

I did a mile today in 24 minutes, just walking for now, but I wasn't winded. Believe it or not, that's a huge improvement from where I was 9 months ago, before I started getting up and moving.

I have no idea if my body, at age 41, after years of being out of shape and overweight can do 3 1/2 hours of 16 minute miles, but I'm going to try!

I haven't told my husband or family, co-workers or friends what I'm doing. I'd rather keep it a secret until I know I'm really keeping my commitments to myself and really going to go run/walk this thing. You guys will be my only outlet to talk about it, so thanks in advance! :-)

I think the lime green just has to stay! It's so easy to spot the WISH scream team while out there on the course...the shirts are very noticable and there are very few other groups wearing that color (I only noticed one or two all weekend).

I've managed to get back to working out again after a few days of much needed post-Goofy rest. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical on Friday, 30 minutes again Saturday morning followed by 15 minutes on the stationary bike, and then completed 4 miles (9:01 mpm) on the treadmill this morning along with 15 more minutes on the stationary bike. My heart rate was higher than normal but I suppose that is due to all of the repair work going on inside my body, along with the "overtraining" feeling after a big race like that.

I think I'll keep it low key this week...running a couple of times, no more than 4 miles...while adding in some cross training and pilates for the core.

I'm hoping to finalize my 2008 race plan on Monday. Right now it's looking like either Minnie or Pig in May....the DL half in August....and the Goofy Challenge again in January. I'm not sure how I feel about running in a race catered to women, but I did notice a substantial amount of WISHers doing it with their siginificant others...and I'd be running with a woman, so I guess that would make it acceptable :goodvibes:

Good luck to all of those training today, as well as all of those just taking a nice rest...it is well deserved!

GOOD FOR YOU, Amanda, and welcome from a fellow newbie who will also be running the half next year.

Of course you can do it! You've already taken the hardest step. I look forward to getting to know you during the next year, and seeing you next January! :woohoo:

DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP ON THE CALENDAR

I can't always be reading every post to catch team mates and their events. ;)

:welcome: Kira and Amanda! (and others I've missed!! :flower3:

That's one of the things this training thread is great for...:woohoo: when ya done good and :cool1: (that's kicking your ...) when you need it.

Scott...DO IT!! ;)

AmyBeth, you were flying along that course!! By the time we saw your WISH cloth..you were gone!! :lmao: It was a good thing that we were at the turn around, so we could get another chance to yell for you!!

I'm only running 2-2 1/2 miles each time, but I really feel good about it.

Kira- You are not running ONLY 2-2 1/2 miles each time. OMG! You are running 2-2 1/2 miles each time! That is something to be celebrated, and you should feel good about it. You rock! :cool1: Welcome to the WISH team. There is no "only" here, just support and encouragement.

Amanda- Welcome to the WISH team! Thanks for joining us! Please feel free to share all your training with us. We promise not to tell DH or the rest of your family until you are ready to share. ;) You are on the right track and are doing a great job. You have set a reasonable goal for yourself. When I started training for the WDW 1/2 in April 2004 I was walking 22 minute miles. You can do this!

Mel- Let me just say "No way!" to yellow. I do not have one item of clothing in my closet that is yellow, and I do not plan to start now. :lmao: I agree that lime green is the way to go. I also love the idea of getting team shirts from race ready or another vendor. My DH has a couple of race ready shirts, and he loves them.

Ginnyfavers - You can do it. I was where you are a year ago and I finished the 1/2 this year. :goodvibes

I would love a new shirt! I've learned to love lime-green this past year while I was training for the 1/2. My family started commenting on how I was choosing more green "stuff" than before. (my ipod is green!)

This might be a silly question, but does anyone else where their WISH shirt for other races. I've talked my cousin into running a 10K with me in March and would love for us to wear matching WISH shirts.

Training wise - I ran for the first time today. A REALLY lazy two miles. I've done other activities this week (mostly spinning, elliptical, and pilates) but this was my first run. Time to get back on track!:yay:
