Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

Kristi, So, Chad did that, too?? We should start a club for them...:dance3:

Yeah, Chad did the "Dopey" too. :)

I wonder what I am? I did the 5k & Half...umm, just "Dumbo" maybe? I mean, I could have slept in! ;)

And I am feeling so left out of this butt-grabbing-fest during the Full!
The things I miss! :rotfl:

Hi everybody!

I have been MIA for about 2 weeks now. First my computer crashed. Then I got sick. Then, the day of the pre-marathon meet at POP one of my cats got really sick so I spent the afternoon with him at the vet instead of coming down to WDW for the meet. The sick little boy is much better now and so am I. Actually, so is the computer but I still have some fine tuning to do on it. At least I'm back online!

I have not had a chance yet to catch up with everyone's marathon news, but I will be reading race reports as soon as I can. Hopefully, everyone had a great race! It feels really good to be back!

That is referred to as the "Dopey" :lmao:

Too Funny!

My teammates and I decided that WDW needs to have a training camp for runners. It would be 7 days and each day would refer to a Dwarf. The order of the days would go :

Bashful (runners etiquete)
Happy ( the speed workout)
Sneezy (running through illness)
Grumpy (the longest run)
Sleepy (Why rest days are critical - no run)
Dopey (How to train for the Goofy challenge a & other ultra runs)
Doc (injury clinic)

Just imagine the marketing!
Isn't it obvious we spend alot of time training?

Dis anyone see teh running dwarf shirts at the Expo? They were hilarious, but seemed a tad un-Disney to me. Wish I could reemmber their names.

Wow this is moving right along.

I went out tonight for the first run post Goofy and it was okay. I am still a little stiff in my legs and the rest of my body is trying to figure out why it is running again. There was a big dog that inspired it to go a little faster at one point but a fence made sure the dog stopped quickly.

Mel - I am just doing the half. I am hoping to better my time a little. It will also give me more time to get back to the hotel and check out. I think you are more than ready to try for Mickey next year and since DD wants to do Donald and you want to be with her, there is a perfect solution...Goofy!!! :thumbsup2 It is a super special one of a kind medal...

We all had fun at the Wish meets and enjoyed meeting everyone. I thought Pop was great and alot easier to talk to everyone.

Welcome to all the new folks. I hope you are able to stick with us throughout the year and take part in the insanity that we tend to go through. :lmao:

I guess all the speedier people missed out on all the fun. Although I am not sure Lynnda would be thrilled with people grabbing me but it might give her encouragement to keep up with me to make sure it didn't happen. :rotfl:

Bill

Nancy -- Nice to see you again! :)
Cecilia -- very clever and creative!

I did 45 minutes on the bike at the gym (9 miles). I really wanted to do something without putting any pressure on my feet or toes. It felt good to get back into the game. Tomorrow night is WW so I may not get to the gym until Wednesday night, but am hoping to actually be up to TM by then.

Judy -- Did you say you ran 5 miles!?!?!?!? AWESOME!!! :woohoo:

Dis anyone see teh running dwarf shirts at the Expo? They were hilarious, but seemed a tad un-Disney to me. Wish I could reemmber their names.

Yes, I saw them!! They were at the One More Mile booth! I just checked their web page and they didn't have any listed, though.:sad1:

Bill - Melissa was one thing, but I think my dh would have killed me if I got a male butt! Well, unless it was zebra-striped, of course. ;) ;) No, I'm kidding baout that. BTW, how long have you been around? Long enough to knw that there is no such thing as "just the half!" Shame on you! OK, stepping off soap box. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Mel - I know you could do teh full, but it does double your LRs. If you want to do it, though, I think the top secret imedal would be the best time.

Hi WISH Team!

Welcome to all the new folks. I'm so glad you are here. Don't be shy. Come play and we'll get to know our team a bit better.

Who did the walking 1.2 and DD2 to potty in 23 minutes routine. Wow! You've got a tough routine. Glad to hear you're keeping at it. Don't forget to plan in some cross training days.

Ummm, I've not done any training yet. Still on vaca. Go back to work tomorrow. I'm going to ask boss for some days off. If I get the go ahead, I'm in for the Minnie! Send good thoughts/prayers my way. (I've already asked to be off the week from May 19-26 too, so I may be pushing the envelope for May.) I found good flight price if I leave Friday and return Tuesday instead of Monday. I'm quite thrilled that DH has given the go ahead. He said the same for the event next January, I'm just not certain for myself and desire just now about January '08.
:confused3
I'm loving all the pics and reports I've been reading. Thanks to all for getting to their stuff so quickly. I've uploaded my pics, I'll get something out to share soon.

Ooooh, more great news for me, I've just gotten a Nano, I am thrilled that DS talked DH into thinking I just couldn't be without one. I've been using a Shuffle, but I think I'll really love the Nano. It's charging now so I can load up.

Maggie, glad you're back. Hope the hip is going to stop bothering you.

Nancy, great that you are back. I missed you race weekend. Sorry about the troubles. I hope all is going to be well now.

Off to bed I go. Early morning...Hope I'll be able to check in during a moment or two.

Y'all are cracking me up with your stories! :lmao: Too fun.

Ok, total newbie question for you. We've been walking for a couple weeks now, basically doing 30 minutes every other day. The muscle that runs up the back of my right leg (well, not really the back, more like the far right side of the back of my leg) that feels funny. Not exactly painful, but not real comfortable, either. Almost like it's been over-stretched?

Anyway, my question is, what am I doing wrong, and should I be worried about it? :confused3

At last I can be useful - the Marathon Dwarfs names are: sweaty, runny, hurl, crampy, slowy, achey and portajohnny - they had it there in 2006 too, and guess who bought one!!!!

Well the foot verdict is in: the good news - if I hadn't gone to see the physio I could have been laid up for 3 months. The bad news, I can't run or walk for 2-3 weeks. I've got an inflammation of the fat pad on the base of my heel caused by walking too far in shoes with thin soles - great, I can train for a marathon (not to mention all the halves) with no issues, I do four days of sightseeing and end up injured. Cure is total rest from weight bearing exercise (hello, cross trainer my new best friend), hot water bottle on feet, no flip flops only enclosed shoes (neither welcome as it's 90 degrees outside) and anti-inflammatory drugs. Ah, well it could have been worse, at least I'm only at the start of training, not nine months in.

And yes, I agree with Anne, the taper madness has got you all! Helen

Good Morning team!!!

Took a rest day yesterday to help with the healing of my nasty blister, I think I will do the stationary bike tonight and get back to walking tomorrow night.

Wow it is so hard keeping up with all these posts, I know it will get easier the more I post and longer I am on here.

Reading all these posts make me wish I was there, even if I wasn't ready to run just to cheer you all on and meet you all.

Kim

Kim- Don't worry about keeping up with eevryone, but it will get easier. One, you'll get to "recognize" people after a bit and two, we'll slow down a bit once the race is behind us a little more.

TXAng - Welcome! It almost sounds like IT band to me, but I'm no expert. If you're feeling something, though, you may wnat to take 3 days off to see if it gets better. Have you read Marathoning for Mrotals yet? We highly recommend it.

Lily - :wizard: :wizard: Your dh sounds as great as mine. :goodvibes

Kristi - Hoping you can MInnie with us too!

Helen - Thanks for teh help! BTW, I ghugged Pooh fo ryou during the race and got your littlegreydonkey at CP on Friday. :wizard: for speedy healing!

It is just about time to renew our cell phone contract which means new phones for all of us :cool1:

I already have a regular (non Ipod MP3 player) that I use however when I'm on the road I'd really like to take my cell phone as well and with the new MP3 player cell phones I thought I could kill 1 bird with 2 stones

Anyone do this or know much about it :confused3

Thanks!

Good morning Team - :coffee:

This morning I did 2 miles on the TM @ 4.1 then 10 min on the bike. Charlie is going to show me how to use his BowFlex for XT days. Yay! :yay:

Krista - I LOVED your race report! :thumbsup2 I think it's great that it's long, so we get all the little details. That's what makes it great! Thank you for sharing and congratulations!

Anne - Oh you are too kind! :flower3: Yes, I remember whispering those words....Hee hee. Hey I only flew by you because I had to "go". :crazy2:

That Wendy is a machine! Wendy, you're picture is on a shelf in my kitchen. You're an inspiration to everyone!

That is referred to as the "Dopey"
:rotfl:

Will someone PLEASE tell me why I don't live in warm & sunny Florida???

I don't know, Kristi. I ask the same thing pretty much every day.

Judy - I'll bet the whole booty thing is worse than all the virtual kisses we gave you a couple of weeks ago

Yeah, and hey, not ONE PERSON kissed me last weekend! Actually the booty thing is very entertaining and I'm really sorry I missed it. Makes me worry, though, what goes on during the Full, as Charlie is signing up for it next year....

Nancy - THERE you are! Oh I'm glad everything is OK now. :wave2:

Bill - Excuse me but THIS is not allowed....
I am just doing the half.
There is no "just" in doing the Half.

- Umm, yea, I did run five miles but I didn't break any speed records. :)

Hi Helen - Darn that dangerous sightseeing! ;)

Carrie - Speaking of zebra butts, he promised me he'd be around today.... Which is good because I miss his wittyness (if that is a real word).

:wave2:

Hi everyone! I want to thank everyone for all of their well-wishes during my illness. I greatly appreciate it. I am perfectly healthy now (clean bill of health just 3 days after the races :sad2: ) and am back to work, classes and working out.

I also owe all of you '07 racers a HUGE apology for not writing sooner. It was a lot tougher than I expected, not being able to make the trip. But that was certainly no reason to go AWOL and abandon everyone and not offer my congratulations on what a fantastic job you all did. I rolled myself out of bed both mornings to track everyone (how handy was the list of race numbers!!) and I was completely impressed, especially considering the weather conditions. So please accept my apoligies. I will be catching up with the race reports as soon as I can.

I had actually put off registering for the 2008 races because I just wasn't sure--- Would my heart be in it? Would my work situation in the fall allow my to train better? Would I be able to get back to Orlando one week after my New Year's trip? How in the WORLD am I going to taper on a cruise ship?

I've been lurking on the threads all along and everyone's doing it again in '08! And then there's that 15th anniversary medal. Hmmm.... And the weather can't be bad two years in a row. Hmm.... And THEN I realized that there were about 50 people in this very group who would not LET ME not do this. So I bit the bullet and registered. $250.16 later, I'm in for '08! Let's call it the "Do Over" year :yay:

I fully intend for this year's Goofy attempt to be a year-long process. Dropping some extra weight, lots of conditioning work, getting an early start and running more races during the year. I think that will put me in a training frame on mind better than I had been this year. I definately need to plan better than last year. (And I need a shirt....)

In other news.......

Bill - Melissa was one thing, but I think my dh would have killed me if I got a male butt! Well, unless it was zebra-striped, of course. ;) ;)

Mmmhmmm.... I knew you were one of those girls. Well, they're real and they're FANTASTIC! :lmao:

I'll try to keep up from here on out!
Kevin :earsboy:

Wow you've been a busy bunch. I had severe vertigo over the last 4 days-- actually almost the same time span as I had it the first time I had pneumonia, maybe its connected.

I haven't checked teh shirt poll yet, but I'd say we should do no more than tweak if anything. Our shirts were by far the best on the course (I can say that because it was a collaborative effort). As far as the changing vendors for a more lime-green color, there's something to be said for having a great vendor you know you can trust. Carrie found our shirt guy and he's come through great two years in a row. Just some things to keep in mind...

My mom just saw a knee specialist and asked about me and got a name of an ortho guy. He's a Harvard prof and works at Brigham & Womens and Baptist. So I just made an apt with him, but in the convo I explained it was for a second opinion and I'm not interested in surgery. The secretary said he only does surgery (turns out he's an ortho-surgeon). So I'm bummed, but I'm keeping the apt. I really need to hear what someone outside of Lahey has to say. I'm going to make Mom come with me, I'm to scared to go. And I kindo of don't know what to tell the guy, "I can't sit down, but I ran back-to-back marathons last week..." I sure hope that makes sense to him.

Sunny

Oh, and BTW, I don't normally get involved in all those football convos but... What about those Patriots!!!!!!!:cheer2: (Sorry, couldn't resist)
