Wk Of Dec 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good evening folks!! :surfweb:
I'm sitting here watching "To Catch A Thief"--Cary Grant at his finest--and I thought I'd check in with my fellow WISH team mates. My new job is going very well and I'm very pleased with it. I enjoy going to work and am quite busy so I have little time for checking the disboards. That's the only bad thing about it.

On a happy note, my calf is healed. I had strained the solius muscle in the left calf but I rested and slowly came back. I ran 4 miles last Saturday then 60 minutes on Sunday and 30 minutes on Monday. I took Tuesday off. I have to admit that between training for this marathon and having a new job, I'm pooped. I just couldn't face yet another 30 min run. I ran a mile, then did the eliptical and bike. I really had quite a workout. Tomorrow I plan to run 2 hours. The local indoor track is open so I will run around that thing for 2 hours instead of a TM. I'm much happier with that.

We did get about a foot of snow yesterday. The weather and roads were so bad that it took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to go 8 miles. The last 2 miles took me 2 hours! Boy, did I have to go to the bathroom when I got home!!!

TnTsParty: soooooo sorry about the 80 degree weather! Such a bummer. ;)

Jen117: happy to hear about the new shoes. I also got new shoes and mine are springy. I feel like Tigger bouncing on his tail.

cdn_gal_eeyore: good luck on your 20 miler!

monte: how are ya, lady? Happy to hear you're getting some snow.
Hope it keeps the ski slopes open!

We're supposed to get more snow on Sunday with some sort of nor'easter. At least for now they are predicting more rain than snow which for my taste will be just fine.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and for those running races, good luck!!!

Good Evening Team

Hope everyone is doing well, it's just great down here in the 85 degree weather :headache: (can you hear my sarcasm?), I know all our northern friends think I'm crazy but this weather STINKS for christmas, it is just plain HOT!!

Ok on a happy note my back, is much better :woohoo: , going to throw a few intervals of a very slow jog in my walk in the morning. WISH me luck!! I'm so paranoid of reinjuring.

Then I AM going to gym, I never did make it earlier this week, but for a good reason, we were busy with science fair stuff and DS - 11 made it to DISTRICT science fair:banana: also DS - 11 did his 3 mile run last night, in prep for Family 5-k with dad at marathon and he did 12 minute pace!! :cool1: He is doing so good I'm so proud of him. And on the training note, DH is moving right along with training for 1/2 marathon. Did 2 & 1/2 miles at 8:30 pace last night :dance3: - GO BOBBY. Not bad for someone who had back surgery 6 months a go

OK off to bed so I can work out in the AM -- I am SOOOOO excited. :cheer2:

angie

Angie - Congrats to DS11! Great job on the science fair. And wonderful that he's actually training for the 5K. DD16 is doing it (along with DH), and I think she's been on the TM once in the past 3 months. We're doing another 5K on New Year's Eve - guess that will be her training for Disney! I know what you mean about it being too hot for Christmas. We're getting a cold front tonight and supposed to drop to 45 tomorrow after being in the 80's this week.

Martha - Hooray on the calf being healed. Stay inside this weekend. One of my coworkers transferred to our Nashua location last winter, and when we got the email yesterday that they were closing due to weather we bombarded him with emails about how warm it was here and how much snow did it take to close businesses there (since we get endless grief here for closing when there's a couple of inches!).

Lisa - You're gonna get me in trouble - might have to go by the NB store and just see if maybe there are any skirts on sale... add that to the socks I just ordered from Running Warehouse tonight, the 3 race registrations I paid for, the photos I ordered from the Run to Victory, and this running is getting really expensive! And I haven't even gotten to WDW yet. :rolleyes1

Hi team....

Managed to run a solid 5 miler tonight. Legs seem to be holding up well. Scheduled for a nice 8 miler tomorrow...trying to beat the snow and ice and rain (oh my) :scared1: . Overall I think my legs/hips are doing much better. They get an easy weekend in preparation for the final LR Yay!

Another question: Does anyone wear the Mizuno Wave Nirvana??? I am an old Kayano XII fan...whose feet were destroyed in the reinvented XIII. I tried Nimbus, Cumulus, Brooks Adrenaline you name it...ended up just buying the Kayano 12s from ebay to get me thru...but the bad weather is really beating the heck out of the two pair I have left. Not sure if the new model will be any better and ebay is just not producing the 12s fast enough for my mileage anymore. So sad...oh the trauma and stress of a runner with a discontinued beloved shoe...*sniff*. Anyway...all drama aside I tried on the Nirvana 3 and they felt amazing. But I got nervous and didn't buy them after being traumatized by several pairs of shoes that felt great in the store but caused all kinds of issues on the road LOL. Anyone have anything good to say about this sneaker??? Please....;)

AmyBeth,
I have the same problem. I have used the XIIs and love them. Bought the XIIIs and hated them. Oh why do they change? I took them back and tried a few other shoes - no luck. Good thing my local running store will take back the shoes. I tired the Mizuno Alchemy and he Kayano XIIIs with no luck. I ended up buying a new pair of XII's online to get me through the marathon. I now have them broke in and am ready to go!

I feel you pain - literally.
Duane

Good Morning Wish team!

Rise and shine! Get out there and get those steps in! Even if its one the treadmill, get 'em in! Marathon weekend is 4 weeks away! Taper is almost here, some start next week! You can do it! Get off the puter and get out there!

Amy Beth - Check and see if your local running stores have any returned XII's. They always try me in the Kayano's but I always end up back in my Brooks. I go in thinking "I am going to get something different this time" and then I don't. Also, Nike has a new stability shoe out that felt amazing. I eventually chose the Brooks again, but it was a close tie with the Nike's. I wasn't impressed with the Kayano this time at all.

Shan - I have to run right now, but I will pm you before the weekend is out and we will work something out. I can do long runs on Friday once this marathon is over! As for pace, well, we usually train on LRs at around a 10:30 - 11:00 minute pace. We can alter the pace to whatever you need.

Well, I am off to run!

Good early morning all!

I have to decorate cookies today with the kids and then DH is taking them shopping for their most awesome mom...so I will be running later today. I will let you all know how the skirt works. I am pretty excited to try it. Anyone who wants one, they have a bright neon green skirt in large only on the clearance rack for $10 and then a kind of milder lime green skirt for $24.99 unless the sale is still on. Just as a FYI, I bought a M and I probably should have gotten a S as they are very stretchy but, comfortable. If anyone wants one, I can pick them up and either mail them to you or pack them and bring them to WDW in January. I will post later and let you know the "ride" factor. I do have the 2-in-1 shorts from NB with the same compression shorts underneath and they are the most comfortable shorts I own. If you can find a pic online they are NB Adrenaline or Bonita running skirts.

Happy training today and I am going to practice my restraint while decorating cookies!!! :santa:

Today will be a treadmill 8 miles. It is currently 7.5 degrees and is supposed to hit 18 for a high. For all you in the south, send some heat this way. I don't look forward to 20 miles next weekend in these temps. At least this weekend is only 2 hours on the treadie and not over 4 like last week.

Have a great training day. Try not to get over-heated.

We are supposed to get between 6 - 24" of snow tomorrow. We are right on the boarder for the change from 12 to 24. Don't you just love winter.

Checking in quickly, hope everyone has good LRs today! :thumbsup2

DH was up all night with the stomach flu! YUCK! I just spent the last hour going around the house wiping everything down. I have my fingers crossed the girls and I don't get it - this week is just too crazy!

I hope I can get my run in tomorrow. I feel a tad doomed. :lmao:

I had an easy 9 mile run this morning. OK, I take that back, at this stage there is no run that seems easy. If I need to do 50 min, it is hard in the last mile. If I need to do 9 miles the last mile is still tough. It's like where did all my training go? There is no run that seems easy at this point and I know most of it is in my mind. It knows how far I need to run and as we get close to the end, either 50 minutes or 20 miles, it knows it is almost time to stop :).

It was hot today. Well actually it wasn't too hot because I went out at 6:00 a.m. but the humidity was brutal already. I bought a "cold" weather outfit about 6 weeks ago because it was starting to get cold. Well that lasted for 2 days. I've yet to wear it. Still in shorts and tank top, even at 5:30 a.m. But, I'd rather have that then the rain/snow/cold some of you are running in.

Hope it cools off in the next few weeks.
Duane

Craig: I finished up with finals on Tuesday night, sending in my last take home final around 11 PM. What a relief! Most profs have 72 hours after their finals to get grades submitted. So far, I have only one "official" grade posted. However, here is what I know I am getting in 3 of 4 classes:

International Business Cultures: B+
Specialized Topics in New Venture Creation I: A
Advertising Strategy: A

I am waiting for a grade in Research Methods for Marketing. I am not sure how that will play out, I had an 88 on the mid-term. I am awaiting a grade on a team project/paper and my final exam which was the take home mentioned above.

Now a training update:

I went to the gym last night and hit the TM logging 8.35 miles. It went well, I think I average somewhere between a 10:30 and 11:00 pace throughout.

So far:

Training Day 1: 6.35 miles
Training Day 2: 8.35 miles

More to come!

Happy training everyone!

Howard

Duane I wouldn't fuss to much, some of those northerners will be making Duane Voo Doo dolls. When you get that sharp pain in the **** when you are cruising along you will know. You might even hear the evil laugh if you listen close enouth.:rolleyes1

The Pats are having a good season so our dear PatsFan Bill is rubbing in some noses. Those back pains he is suffering are the result of some Ohio Steelers fans throwing their Bill Voo Doo doll against the wall then letting the dog knaw on it.

My take on what you said about no run being easy right now is; I think we are all running/walking scared. We know we are getting close to show time and we keep subconciously looking for a little ache that we know is the start of a stress fracture or a blown tendon or some such. We can't relax and enjoy it like we can when there is nothing looming. It's the prelude to taper maddness when we are sure that any resting will cost us every bit of our fitness.:grouphug:

Have an awesome day y'all.

IOK, I take that back, at this stage there is no run that seems easy.

Duane - Take a look at your weekly mileage and relax! Its supposed to be hard at this point! Your body is flat out tired of you torturing it! About week two of taper, you will go out for a short run and be amazed at how strong you feel. Panda is absolutely right, your body and especially your mind are playing tricks on you!

Good afternoon everyone!

Just finished up with a little XT, raking leaves. It's the 15th of December and I'm in the back yard in shorts and a t-shirt, sweating like a hooker in church.

A front is supposed to move through today and cool things off. It's supposed to be 45 - 50 in the morning. That should be condusive for a decent 16 miler.

Y'all take care. :)

Lynne - Congrats on Hawaii!

Monte - I'm always up for a trip to Hawaii! A WISH meet sounds great!:)

Howard - Welcme back! Congrats on the grades! No taper for me, either. Training's been sporadic so race day will seem llike normal part of training routine.

Leanna - Good luck with your busy weekend!

Martha - Glad to hear your calf is feeling btter.

Kathy - good job on the treadmill. Don't know how you can stand it. (yet I can do the elliptical for hours. Just don't like the treadmill).

***

I had a great r/w yesterday. Think I set a pr for 5 miles on the track! :cool1: Finished the 5 in 1:02:54 (about a 12:35 pace). Wish I was that fast on the road. It was cold and a little windy, but I felt great. Not sore at all. If I could maintain that pace, I'd finish the half in just over 2 1/2 hours (boy, is that Wishful thinking!)

Today will be a xt day. Was hoping to do 12 tomorrow, but we're supposed to be gettng a nor'easter (but ours will be mostly rain). If that happens, I'll try to do the 12 on the elliptical at he gym.

Terri

Spent 2 hours on TM so far today. Accomplished 7 of the 8 miles. WE are going back to the gym when Erin gets out of work and I will spend an hour on the elliptical.

Today TM wasn't as bad at last week 4 hours. I was able to watch multiple episodes of Gray's Anatomy. Don't have that option when going to the gym.

Everyone seems to be doing well. Next week is 20 miles and then taper.

Craig: I finished up with finals on Tuesday night, sending in my last take home final around 11 PM. What a relief! Most profs have 72 hours after their finals to get grades submitted. So far, I have only one "official" grade posted. However, here is what I know I am getting in

Howard

Howard....Are you going to the U of D??? If so...wondering who your prof is for Int'l Business Cultures? As alumni in the IR and Economics program there I was wondering if any of the same profs are still there. Great job getting those miles in!!!

Terri....Great job on your run and xt. Hope that Nor'easter doesn't hit you too hard. I moved my LR up a day to avoid the mess.

NYCPA...UGH...4 hours on the treadmill last week and 2 this week. I am in awe...I really don't know if I could do that. Amazing job :).

Vic....:lmao: "sweating like a hooker in church". LMAO!

Shan...PD that your DH is feeling better and that YOU don't get it. :goodvibes

----------------------------------------------------

So I moved my LR up a day to avoid the mess that is sure to be the weather tomorrow. Seems like we're in quite a pattern here. Anyway...it was so chilly today...the temps weren't any worse than normal but that cool breeze really made it frigid out there. I did my 8 miles in just under 72 minutes. I was surprised that my pace was ok given that I ran yesterday late afternoon and then did Pilates this morning while I taught. Anyway...tomorrow is a rest day (I think) although I may jump on the ski machine for a quick xt session to stetch out the legs. However, being a rest week the 8 shouldn't leave me with too much to worry about :).

Hope everyones' LRs are going well this weekend!!! :sunny:

OMG! DH is STILL sick! :scared1:

24 hours and he is still getting sick. I thought it passed and I cleaned down everything, but then SURPRISE! I have totally banned him to the bedroom. Turns out his whole work is sick, too! Talk about a killer bug!

Just keep us in your thoughts that the girls don't get it and they miss out on all their parties this week. Plus, my oldest has a chorus field trip. She will be devastated if she misses it.

I took them to see Alvin and the Chipmunks today to get them out. It was kinda cute.

Oh, Atlanta is getting rain!

Shan: Yuck, PD that DH is better tomorrow and no one else gets sick...especially you!!

All us up north: Batten down the hatches. We are due for A LOT of snow!! :woohoo: Where I am, we sit on the line of 12-24 and 10-18 with sleet. I would opt for more snow, sleet really messes up the XC ski trails.

All you down south: I have no idea how you run in the heat any more than you understand how we run in the cold. My motto is, I can put on more clothes but can only take off so much before they term that streaking!!

On the training front, I got in my full 7 on the TM. Not my favorite but I figure it is time to buckle down to serious training. I averaged a 12:00 pace which is acceptable for me with that amount of miles.

Oh, and OMG is this skirt comfortable. The lime one of course. If you are going to put in mileage, you might as well sport your colors!!! Anyone interested who cannot find one online (NB Adrenaline running skirt) I can get most sizes in lime, black, gray, orange and light blue for $24.99 and I think I still have a 20% off coupon good until the end of the year. I will be in WDW for "the weekend" so I could pack them along.........:rolleyes1
