Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Suzy - I'm so sorry! When I posted I guess I was too star struck. I didn't even read everyone elses' posts.

WOW! Congratulations! What a fabulous accomplishment! I think that's wonderful. Way to go!! :woohoo:

:yay: :dance3: :cool1:  :cheer2: :hyper: :jumping3: :cheer2:  :cool1: :yay: :dance3:  :cheer2:

Judy: Funny story about Robert Vaughan....yes, I am definitely old enough to remember him. In fact when I lived in NYC, I used to always see his side-kick David McCallum (Ilya Kuryakin) doing the most mundane things (like shopping in Woolworths) on the lower East side. That was one of the joys of living in NYC....you would see celebrities all the time and it never phased you. Secretly, it did, but ego made you pretend not to notice! That's just the NY way.

Congratulations, Suzy!!! I hope you are celebrating BIG!!!! Your teammates are sooooo proud of you!!! :thumbsup2 :cheer2:  :cool1: party:

Suzy--WTG! Congrats on the Degree!

Moon--so sorry about the fall!

Work was fine today--busy day at the gym--but after noon, no one--guess it's the kids naptimes and the mommies are all done with their tennis games. Anyway, got 5 miles in after work on the TM. I tried out the TM with it's own flat screen TV--really weird for me--thought I might get motion sick being that close to the TV screen and the running motion. But on the positive, it took me so long to figure out what channel and volume I wanted the darned thing on, the time went by quick!;) Have a great night all--time to go feed the troops!

Suzy - WTG!:cool1: I know you are so proud! I remember when I finished my Masters (in Clinical Counseling). :cool1:  :cool1:

Oh Moon! So sorry about the fall. Glad to hear you are alright.

Judy - I hate to admit it, but I have no idea who you are talking about. :confused3 But I don't get out much.

Cleaned my bike really good, including the chain...oooooh, it was nasty. Put my run off until tonight b/c of work/children/ect....but now it is thundering (and still around 97) so I don't know if I will get it in.
Supposed to do an 80 mile ride this weekend, but I am going to be in the mountains of GA....my coach told me to get in 5 hours b/c all the hills will slow me down. 5 hours on a bike...ouch!:rolleyes1

Suzy - CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheer2:

Judy - I guess I'm old. I was impressed!

Moon
- Hope you're not too sore from the fall!

Steve/Krista - Hines isn't eating socks again, is he?

Saw the doctor this morning. It's not a sprain, it's an inflamed bursa, which I guess makes it bursitis? Told me to take Aleve 3x/day, ice it every night, stay off it until Tuesday when I'm supposed to call him and let him know how it feels. Then he may clear me to start walking on it, and after another week or so may be able to start running on the TM with no incline. I'm OK to use the bike as long as it doesn't hurt the ankle. He thinks I should be back on track for the marathon in November, but my 5K with the Carolina Hurricanes ain't gonna happen!

Jackie

Nothing to report today - darn tetnus shot! My arm is killing me & I've had a fever since this afternoon - very dizzy. Argh.

Anywho - just wanted to say congrats to Suzy!
:woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Suzy - WAY TO GO!!!  Congrats on all your hard work paying off!!

Jackie - Sorry about your injury, and that you don't get to do your 5k.

Moonie - Yikes! Hope you heal quickly

Shan - Great pace!! Did your waitlist for RFTT come in yet? :wizard: for your DH

Thankfully, after lots of ice last night and today, my knees are feeling better. I don't think I will risk any running before the big event though.

Becky

Suzy: Congrats on getting your Masters. That is quite an accomplishment!:thumbsup2

Jackie, Moonie and Kristi: sending pixie dust so that you recover quickly!

Jackie: I'm sorry to ask this again, but if you responded I must have missed it.
If I take the trail that goes under Millbrook, will I have to cross any major streets? If it's 10 miles, I could do it once, go around the lake and then do it again for my long 22 mile walk.

Suzy--CONGRATULATIONS on the degree! What an accomplishment! :thumbsup2

Jackie--no, fortunately, Hines is not eating socks again. :sad2:

Jeanne - You'll cross North Hills Drive, but it's not busy at all. You go under Glenwood Ave and don't even realize it. After you pass McDonalds you parallel Blue Ridge Rd for a while, then the greenway veers off for a couple of miles. It's almost exactly 5 miles from the boathouse at Shelley Lake across the dam to the end of the trail, so we go out and back for 10 miles, then do some variation of it again when we're doing longer mileage. I'll try to PM you a copy of a really cool greenway map I got off the N&O website.

Suzy

You and I have gone back and forth in the last many months about your graduate studies, and all I can say is I'm very pleased for you. Setting a long term goal and then getting it is a testament to you, especially given what you've said about a few folks not understanding what you were going through. Many of us certainly know, been there, done that, so congratulations, you've done very well and are justifiably proud.

Jackie

Sorry about the bursitis. Myself, I fight that on my left hip, and do lots of stretching, every day, multiple times a day, to keep it from getting too troublesome. Best to you.

Howard My Man

Good luck with the coming semester. Year 1 is mentally much tougher. Year 2, I'm not sure that it actually is easier, but it seems so. Before you know it you'll be standing in line to get the degree in a gown with chevrons on the sleeves and a hood.

I have been mia for a while, and I expect this to continue until nearly Christmas. Classes at Babson start tomorrow and I have a full load of sophomores in 3 core finance classes. I also will be traveling down to Sloan/MIT to teach 1 intermediate finance course. All are T-TH courses, so lots of time in the car and lots of time in the classroom. After 10 good years here it's very exciting to be going someplace different and new. I get restless easily, with a longest time anyplace since college of 5 years. 10 seems forever, and I'm really looking forward to my time at MIT. If this could become a regular thing I'd be especially pleased.

Training? Pretty good actually. I'm doing the Higdon 18 week intermediate schedule, and this is week -2 of his 18 week plan. I did 9 sunday, 3 yesterday, and 5 today, and felt strong in spite of what new englanders call heat. I'm running the BAA half marathon on October 7, so I'll get a good indication or my fitness level. My plan is to run it as a training run, perhaps 10 minutes per mile. Of course, at 8 am on race day all rationality will disappear, so we'll see what the result is.

Plus on Sunday I'll be at the Buffet Show on my birthday, with my lovely bride, my employed 22 year old daughter, and great friends.

Is this a great country or what?

Craig

Oh, Jackie, I am so sorry you are in pain. I am glad you are diagnosed and there is a "cure" however tedious it might seem. Sending you pixiedust: for a quick recovery.

Kristi -- I'm sorry your arm is sore. So I guess you can't do this :dance3: or :yay: or :cheer2: for a little while, huh? Sending you :goodvibes:

Thankfully, after lots of ice last night and today, my knees are feeling better. I don't think I will risk any running before the big event though.

Becky

Becky -- :woohoo: for improved knees! Take it easy and save them for the big day!

Craig -- it is so nice to see you here! We've missed you terribly this summer. The next few months sound like they'll be insanely hectic for you, so I just hope you have some awesome music for all that driving! May I recommend some by one of my all time favorite artists, Jimmy Buffett? Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you are going to the show? ;) Howard and I had a -- ummmm. . . let's see, how to describe it? "INTERESTING" experience at the Philadelphia show last year. :lmao: I can't imagine your birthday could get any better than what you have planned with your lovely wife and fully-employed sweetheart of a daughter! Have fun!

Krista & Stephen -- Have I mentioned that I am worried about Hines? Is he doing okay now? What happened? I am severely traumatized at any prospect of a sick pup. Cali is at my feet by the way, having just jumped up to give me quick puppy kisses. :cloud9:

Sorry to all I've missed. I am off to do crunches, pushups and a 33 minute walk/jog DVD before Howard decides I must go to sleep. I guess all my whining about being tired all the time is a bit annoying. :rolleyes1

Jackie, it's too bad you will miss your 5K, but good news about the marathon! Did you hear that my boyfriend (Helio - as if you could forget ;) ) is going to be on Dancing With the Stars. :cool1: My oldest absolutely LOVES that show and now I'll have a reason to watch, too. Tell Annie that her heart may belong to Marco, but in the off season she should support any IndyCar driver who brings much needed publicity to our series.

I don't have any training to report, again. Went back to the chiro and he put my hip back in place again. He thinks that it should hold the adjustment better after a couple more visits. I hope he is right because I feel great for about 24 hours and then it clearly slips out of place again and causes my pain to return. I keep reminding myself that I don't need to start serious training for Donald until October and that I have time to get ready to train. So frustrating!

Suzy! Congratulations! This is truly an accomplishment I know you are proud of you. I am proud of you too!

WISH Team, Happy training and take it easy with the injuries.

I've been busy still. Just now getting ready to get things organized for work tomorrow. Mom is doing better every day as she says she is taking more steps. They had to give her another unit of blood today and although I know it is going ok, it is a long haul. I'm not reporting any training. I'm trying to figure it somehow.

OMG.... I have tears running down my face at the moment while I'm trying to type this. But they are happy tears :goodvibes That all of you took time out of your busy day to respond to my note means more that I can possibly say. Thank you all :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Howard - Next May will be here before you know it. I can't wait to read all about your graduation!:thumbsup2 Cam - I know how tough this has been on my family so I think your amazing to support Howard as you do :goodvibes

Craig - I don't know that I ever really said thank you for your kind words nearly two years ago now when I was struggling. I've often thought of those words and you helped me more than you know  :goodvibes

Thank you one and all to everyone that has both supported me through these last couple of years and for your kind words today. I feel very blessed to be part of a wonderful group of individuals :cloud9:

Suzy - Congrats on your accomplishment!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Judy - I still don't know who that guy is. I guess I can finally feel young now. :lmao:
Craig - Good luck with your new teaching assignment. Try not to be poorly influenced by all those engineering types over there. We can be a strange group of people to others...:rolleyes1

Lily - Glad your mom is doing better. Hope things continue to improve.

Vic - Other than being busy, nothing much is going on. How are things in North Florida where it has to be cooler right now.

Time to get to work. I am slowly catching up on everyone now.

Bill

Suzy - CONGRATS!!! :woohoo:

Becky - I took us off the waitlist. We're still at SSR. I booked another trip for the last week our AP is good so I had to use those points and then some. If the waitlist for BCV or BWV came thru I wouldn't have the points for it. :lmao:

Are you getting excited?

Good morning WISH team! :surfweb:
Trying to wake up this morning and thought I'd see how everyone is doing. I managed to get in 44 minutes yesterday. I was stupid enough to run outside. It has been dry here and the brook path has been conducive to nice runs. Unfortunately, although dry, the temp was quite hot and I shouldn't have run outside. Oh well. I'm trying to stay away from the TM. I'll try the indoor track for a 3 mile run today.

Creativebeth: ooooo! A spa pedicure! I like the way you think!! Not only do you give yourself a rest day, you treat yourself to something wonderful.

Renee: rest if you need to! You must get over this cold soon!

Shan: :wizard: for DH getting better soon. My DH was diagnosed with an ulcer years ago and he took that medicine that heals them. He hasn't had any trouble since.

Minnie: CONGRATULATIONS on finishing your Masters!!! :cool1: It really feels good, doesn't it!!! :cheer2:

nepatsfan: what's your prediction for the Patriots this year?

Moonie: great job on the 3 mile run on the TM. Watch out for those showers!! Ouch! Here's some pixiedust: to make it better. When DD was little, we had a wash cloth tied in the shape of a bunny. It had a little opening where you put an ice cube to rub on the injured spot. It was called "Boo-boo bunny." What you need is a boo-boo bunny!

Chista: good luck on the long bike ride this weekend!

Jackie: so sorry to hear your ankle has bursitis!! Ow! I had hip bursitis last year and it was a long time in recovery. I didn't run either the 1/2 or full last year. I was able to rehab to the point that it really doesn't bother me any more. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your ankle gets better and it doesn't bother you any more!

Calcio: happy birthday! Maybe a little early, but why not celebrate! :love2:

Time to get some caffeine. Have a delightful day everyone!
