Wk of April 27 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning!

Today is Doggie Day at work, so we'll have about 100 dogs here throughout the morning. Doggie Day is where they open the pool up to the local pooches to swim before we drain it tonight. We do this annually then close the pool for cleaning for 2 weeks. It's alot of fun, but boy does it get hectic!

Anyhoot, I rode the stationary bike yesterday and did weights...it was a great workout! Enjoy you Sunday.:goodvibes

Hey,
I used to live in Vail, wish I'd known about this then. I would have LOVED to bring our doggie to this. WHAT FUN!!

Just a quick note before I shower and head out for a bike ride, but I PR'd my 5K this morning!!!

I was hoping to go sub 30:00 but I started out too fast and the uphill in the last half of the race killed me. Oh well, something to shoot for next weekend at the Go Red for Women 5K.

30:22.....my new PR!!!!!

CONTRAGULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey All! Well I just found my next goal! I said earlier I couldn't afford another trip this year just to get in another marathon. I just sat down at the computer and checked for marathons in the places I'm going to be anyway. Disney's Race for the Taste 10K is the day after we were planning to leave Disney! So instead of a separate trip, it's just a small extension on the already planned one. I've already told the kids about their races that day. Did I mention earlier that my kids did the children's marathon? WooHoo!:goodvibes

Good Sunday everyone,

I helped the Pink group out on our last 8.7 miler of the month. We averaged 10 minute miles, give or take +/- 15 to 20 seconds either way. Next month we increase the distance to 10 miles. Our group was 15 members of the clinic. The overall clinic was about 250 people today.

Hope everyone got out and did some miles. Have a great rest of your weekend.

Follow up: After my run, I took the Princesses, the Queen, and one of our four royal mutt's for a 4 mile hike up in Manoa hills.

Hello everyone!

Quick drive by, but I'll be back tonight to catch up with everyone.

Just got back from watching the final stage of the Tour de Georgia downtown and it was pretty cool seeing all of the pros zipping around on their bikes. I did go out and run 6 miles on the way there this morning to complete my short long run. Things went very smooth, had some side stitches for some reason around mile 5 but I was able to breath through them and finish up just fine. I ended up spending too much time at Six Flags yesterday thanks to long lines and missed my workout...so I'll scrap Monday's rest day and do some sort of cardio instead. I'm hoping to get out on the bike, especially now after watching people ride theirs all day LOL.

I'll have a report and some pics up on my blog later if anyone is interested (which answers Mel's question ;) )

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I'll be back later tonight.

I have been not so much online this past week or so due to work and life. So trying to catch up with a fresh week!

Leana...sweet on the PR!
Scott...must have been fun to watch the TD Ga. Very cool.

For me...trying to fit in workouts while traveling, but home all this coming week, so hope to get plenty of activity in, and have 3 tri's this month.

If you're bored, RR's from the last two tri's are on the triathlon thread. :rolleyes1

Congratulations Leana

With very little sharpening you will shatter that 30 minute mark. Perhaps 1 session every 10 days where you carry 9:20 mile pace for a quarter, half, or full mile, with slow recovery in between of 1/4 or 1/2, do this for 4 miles of distance, and next race you'll think 9:30 miles are a breeze, bringing you in well under 30.

Good luck

Craig

Hey Folks! I'll back to catch up w/ everyone, but wanted to post the pics of the t-shirts I've made for our trip. They are all iron-ons. Some are for family too (shhh...it's a SUPRISE!) We'll all be matching one day. Guess which ones! LOL!

OK. Time to go pack 'em up!

Great reading!

53 Runner's Commandments

Cool shirts Stacy!

Kira...my pleasure. Thanks for the offer. We do need some help from new folks and lurkers. That may come up in a separate thread...just some overall info on what it's like to come here for the first time and how it is to try to get involved with the team.

Mel, thanks for the 53 running rules, Alot of those apply to walking.

I especially like the one that says, "Races aren't just for those who run fast.":)

Mel

"When standing in starting lines, remind yourself how fortunate you are to be here."

This is one that I always remember. There are few feelings on earth that match standing in the corrals, surrounded by your peers who have gone through the exact same thing you have. I so look forward to being in the WDW half and/or full corrals at 5:40 a.m., with the dark sky above filled with the lights and activities of the pre-race morning.

And best of all, I get to do this at 6 a.m. this coming Sunday. To be out there with so many great friends, I can hardly wait.

Craig

cdn_gal_eeyore ... Congrats on your PR !!! :cheer2:

Stacy..Cool shirts

wfloyd & CarolA...Thanks for posting the instructions for the Garmin. I can't wait to
play with it.

Jen...good luck at the Minnie. I hope your back is nice to you on Sunday.

Good Luck to everyone going. (I wish I was going to Minnie.)

Not much to report here....went for a 4.92 mile walk..have to work on
increasing my speed.

I love the Runner's Commandments! Thanks for the link.

My favorite today is "The best runs sometimes come on days when you don't feel like running." It's so true, and definitely how it was for me today. I almost bagged it because I had such a full day (and I procrastinated a bit!), but decided I could fit a slightly shortened run in. Well, it was really great running conditions (about 58 degrees and overcast), and I had an awesome run! I'm just sorry that I had to cut it a bit short to make dinner on time.

I also couldn't help myself and let the kids know we would be staying at the Poly in August. I should have kept it to myself - they thought it was great, but were definitely not as excited as I had hoped! Oh well, it is MY dream after all, not theirs. And I am still beside myself with anticipation!

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to be here.

Mel, no blog for me. No time.

Piratesrock, great job on that half. You had a great time and oh what fun you will have in Oct!

Stacy, great job on the shirts.

Jeff, as usual, great pics!

Dave, thanks for letting us know that your lovely bride is getting better. Good news.

Ended up not getting a LR in this weekend. Quad was giving me some what-for so I bagged any w/o. I'll get weekly training in and be certain that I finish Minnie! For more work days and I'm off! Whee!

Mel, those are great. I especially needed to read this one after my miserable experience out there today:

22. No matter how slow you run it is still faster than someone sitting on a couch.

I think I'm printing these out for the fridge.

Allyson :)

Mel - Our Galloway group has a whole list of marathons we're training for. I don't have the complete list yet, but last year it covered everything from Va Beach in September through Kiawah in December. (Disney was added unofficially since it was after the season ended). This year they're adding the Victory Junction Run that a bunch of WISHers did last year.

TXAng
- You're doing great on C25K. You'll do fine with the 3 minute run!

Monica
- The picture in my avatar is from a doggie swim we did locally a couple of summers ago. Mystic loves to play in a kiddie pool, but she did NOT like the big pool! DH took some great pictures: http://www.shuttrbill.com/images/dogpark/dogswim/dogswim.html

Jen - Glad the R3/W1 worked for you!

Scott - Scanning through the DVR tonight and found the Tour de Georgia in there. Don't know if DH set it up or if it's in there from when I recorded it last year. Either way, guess I can watch the final stage!

Ran a 5K today (full report on the Race Report thread). No PR, but beat last year's time. At any rate, I ran 3 miles today and I get to count it as 6 for the Buzzies! Tomorrow is a rest day - haven't had one of those in a week and my body is telling me it's tired, so I'm going to watch my new "Pilates for Dummies" DVD and do nothing else.

Jackie

Kira - Glad we're on the Triple D's together. Congrats on staying at the Poly for your upcoming trip. I've never stayed there, but do go over to eat. It's a beautiful resort.
Stacy - Love your shirts!
Mel - Thanks for the '53 Runners Commandments", I'm printing them out and plan to post them in my office.

Everyone- have a great week. For those going to the Minnie, I hope to see you there.

I did my last LW Minnie training today. Went out to do 8, ended up doing 10 because I miscalculated the distance back home. :confused3 :lmao:

Good Morning Everyone!

I am so jealous of all of you that get to meet up at WDW this weekend! I hope the weather is perfect for all of you.

I saw a sign at CMM this weekend that I think wins the best sign ever made for a marathon. It had a picture of two red glittered running shoes and said "click your heels." The other great sight were the three teens that had MOM spelled out on their chests. The two on the end kept doing handstands so that it flashed "WOW" then "MOM"

Cecilia's new soapbox stand:
I cheered at the finish line for hours and I want to make a big notice here:
Put your name on the front of your shirt.
Not just for you but for the runners around you. You would not believe how much louder the crowd cheers for someone with their name on their shirt. And they keep cheering for several minutes after so other runners get the effect too.

I ran in my TNT mentor shirt and since I wasn't mentoring this race, I put tape over the words mentor and wrote my name on the front and "for my dad" on the back. Dh and my running partner loved how people cheered for me on the course. They got as much of a boost as I did.

But as a screamer, it really helps to see that name. You get tired of screaming the same thing over and over. Plus, I was amazed at how many people smiled when they heard their name. I moved in front of the cameras so I could get people to look up and smile for their pictures.

You can have your name put on a shirt for about $3 at a sports store. Or you can iron the letters on, I think Walmart sells iron on letters. Personally, the puffy painted names just don't show up well enough and are hard to read quick enough to get cheers in.

Stepping off the soapbox now.

Cecilia
