Wk of Apr 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Terri - Congratulations on being crutch free!

Mel - Hope Phil is ok.

Leanna - Great timing on your 5 mile run

Jen - I've seen a chi running book, at Borders, but am not sure what it's about. I think the next time I'm @ Borders I'll read a few chapters.

My training is going well. I've been walking on my tm almost everyday and taking muscle madness and core training classes. I'm so sore, but I'm not seeing any majors results yet! Ugh.

Have a great day TEAM:cool2:

Good morning team. :)

I came close to having yet another "running related" injury to report. Last night I walked down to our pond to see if there was any damage from all the rain. We've had two geese hanging out there for quite some time now. Sometimes they come up to the house and I give them a little of the horse's grain. So last night they come swimming across the pond and I think "Oh how nice, they are coming to greet me". WRONG! Father Goose comes hissing, honking and flapping his wings like a little velociraptor! He chased me right across the back yard! Well, excuuuuuse me! How was I supposed to know they had a nest there!!?? Naturally, I tripped as I was running away from this rabid goose and almost fell. I didn't, thankfully. If I had, I'm sure I would not be here today, as I would have been pecked to death. OK, well, guess I'll look at the pond from the safety of the deck for a while. :rolleyes1

No training, except for the goose sprint, as it is a rest day. I wish I had my Forerunner on for that dash. I bet I went pretty fast.

Laurie - The NYC Clinic sounded great, but I don't think I can go. Let me know if you do.

Jen - Let me know what your pod says. I'm going back to mine today. My ankle was really hurting, but last night I was stretching my quad and my ankle snapped so loudly! But then it felt better. Strange. But my foot still hurts. I have an achy pain which is most annoying. :headache: Grrrr. Oh hey! Look at you in the paper! You're famous! Can I have an autographed copy please?? :yay:

Jackie - Yeah, this is about as social as I get. And oh yeah, I fully intend to meet you in January I've been training with you all this time, I'd better get to see you! :thumbsup2

Krista - You speed demon you! Whooo hooo! :woohoo:

Terri - YAY! Kick those crutches to the curb! :dance3: Actually, you should probably keep them. I always felt is was bad karma to throw crutches away.

Dave - DAVE! You tell us TODAY that yesterday was Free Scoop Day?!?!? Dave..I thought we were friends... :guilty:

Melissa - Oh no, MAJOR :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Phil. We are here for you guys. BTW, I am so happy for you totally loving your job That is awesome! :thumbsup2

OK, today's mission is to totally revamp our fall vacation plans around the ToT13K. Hee hee. ;)

Disnut - Well, Wausau Insurance is no more. They were bought out by Liberty Mutual several years ago and layed off about 1000 employees. Just not the same, tho they still use the Wausau Insurance name every once in awhile, I think for the reputation!

Oh hey, on another running board I saw several people mention how Chi Running has helped them increase speed and decrease injury. Now I am convinced I need to find this book. My library doesn't have it, so I may have to find it at Amazon.

Yes, I worked for them whilst they were part of Liberty Mutual. LM did like the Wausau reputation for middle market commercial coverages. I always considered myself a Wausau employee even though my checks said LM.

Also, I recently bought the Chi Running book. I had put off reading it once I got my heart rate monitor but now I'm trying to incorporate it into my training. I do find I go faster when I'm doing the basic techniques. My heart rate was going up too fast so I held off on it until now.

Melissa-:grouphug: :wizard: for Phil. I didn't dress cool even before I became a mother. At least you have the memories!

Cam-hope those sinuses are clearing up.

Aladinsgirl- The pirate finally bounced off to sleep. I'm heading out for the yardwork now.

Sorry to miss some of you. I just haven't figured out how to keep a pencil by the computer to make notes!

OMG! This thread really moves, doesn't it? :surfweb:
Hopefully, I'll figure out who all is who soon here. You all sound like a very motivating bunch! :thumbsup2

Week two of my program, I had my second session this week this morning. It was fairly easy - run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes for 30 minutes. I went 2.25 miles at a pace of 13:21. Friday I go back to run 2, walk 2. Monday I did that and it about killed me, but my cold is gone so hopefully it won't be so hard for me. Running is definitely harder than walking!

I sat down and looked over the calendar last night with my program. Week eight I'll be on our cruise and at the Poly and it just so happens that is an easy week in the program so that worked out good! I finish up the 13 weeks doing a 10K and I'll be at Vero Beach then. Oh, well. DH said he'd run it with me. My parents will be with us so they can watch the girls. I'm guessing we'll have to be up VERY EARLY cause that is in July. I don't even want to think about the heat.

After that I'll start the maintenance 13 week program that as timing has it - ends right at Race for the Taste. So unless I get sidetracked, the two programs couldn't have been timed better.

Hope I'm not being too optimistic here. :confused3

Well, for all of you speedy people out there, this won't seem like much but I just want to report that I broke a 14 min. pace for 5 miles. I officially W/R a 13.59/min pace. :thumbsup2 My goal is to W/R the WDW marathon in a 13.00 min pace. We'll see what happens.

:welcome: to all our new WISH walking/running buddies. :cool1:

Angie - I know you are excited about graduation :cool1: :goodvibes You should be proud! What an accomplishment in a tough field! Good luck with your finals and your training.

Kelly - sounds like you've had a very busy last few weeks. Hope your family gets better soon.

Lily - I don't like the exercising either. But, after I do it, I'm glad that I put forth the effort. Glad you are able to get right back on track.

bekkiz - sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck with your training.

Maggie - every little bit counts, you betcha! I wonder how many miles a typical tourist averages in the Magic Kingdom (or other park) each day? I'll have to take a pedometer with me someday.

Meghan - I've read some articles about the side cramping lately and for the life of me, I can't remember much of what I read. :rolleyes1 However, one thing that stood out, and I'm not sure why, is that sometimes leaning too far forward while running/walking can cause this. That's my PSA for today.

Leana - I would like to volunteer at a race someday. I have a friend that is going to volunteer at the Nike maraton. She'll be handing out Ghiradeli chocolates at mile 22 or 23. I told her to put some in her pocket for me (if we don't get them in the half). By the way, what hotel are you staying at in San Francisco. We're staying at the Grand Hyatt in Union Square. I need to make flight reservations soon.

Craig – Wow! An MIT professor in our midst. Congratulations! :worship:

Matt – congrats on being a triathlete! I'm impressed.

Mel – yikes about the toenail. I guess my day is coming.

Carrie – pd for your bootie. My running buddy has that problem too. Great pace, by the way!

Cam  for you. Sounds like you've been through the wringer lately. Hope you feel better soon.

Bill – Sending :goodvibes and :wizard: to Timmy.

Krista – Way to go on the pace!

Disnut – whew! I can’t do 4 miles at that pace!

Terri – yea on being crutchless. Is that a word?

Judy  :rotfl: about the goose. Sounds like something that would happen to me. Glad you weren’t hurt. I think your guardian angel finally figured out that you’ve been injured enough lately. By the way, that running clinic is located on the street that my friend lives on. Too bad I can’t go to NY during that time. She’s the friend I’m going to Italy with (Rome and Florence area). We leave on May 13.

Jen – another reason why I like these WISH shirts! :wizard: on the foot. Hope the podiatrist is able to help you. As for Chi running, my DH, Steve, wants to try this. I’ll have to look for the book as well. I saw their book at the WDW expo. I wish I would have paid more attention.

MelR :wizard: and good vibes for Phil. Hope it’s nothing serious. Job sounds fun. Steve, dh, would love to do something like this but I won't let him give up his day job.

Andrew - you are inspiring. As someone mentioned, maybe a few extra calories will help.

Kristi - I think the GGDs need to send a limo to take you to their concerts. You are a great spokeswoman for them. Let me know if you need more bail money.

disnut - I usually have to open a Word document and take notes and I still miss things.

lenshanem - sounds like you've got a good plan. I try to work out my trips with my runs as well. Good luck.

As for qualifying for Boston, I plan to do that someday.....that is, if there is a qualifying time for handing out water/sports drinks. I need to work on my form for getting the drink from the table to the runner. That's about the best I can hope for if I plan on particpating in this event.

Sending :wizard: and :goodvibes for a good week for all!

As far as training, I did do a 9.5 mile trail run on Monday. My legs felt ver sluggish and I had a lot of left booty and knee pain. I think I may try to see an ortho as it seemed worse than usual.

Phil and I have had a pretty crappy week! I don't want to go into it all right now b/c it is just too much to explain, but basically it involves recurrent health issues for Phil. We are waiting on some more test result to know more:guilty: At least I can be in denial while working on and selling bikes! !!!
Melissa- I hope you are feeling OK from your aches and pains, and I really WISH you all the best for Phil. I hope it is nothing serious, and he is fine. :grouphug:

Dave--I would have picked Ben and Jerry's over running any day! What flavor did you get?
Flavor? singular? Uuummm, I went through the line twice - first time Phish Food, second time Choclate Therapy. I have to admit they were really small scoops.

WooHoo! I just got back from the gym and had a great pain free run. 4 miles in 35:30!!!:cool1: Guess I needed that week off, huh?

Judy--LOL about the rabid goose!:lmao: I'm glad you're okay!

Dave - DAVE! You tell us TODAY that yesterday was Free Scoop Day?!?!? Dave..I thought we were friends... :guilty:
Doh, so sorry Judy. I thought it was common knowledge. I actually found out through the budget boards. Great job on your goose sprint.

Susie - congrats on breaking a 14 min/mi pace. Keep up the great work and I'm sure you'll continue to see improvements! I mentioned volunteering in SF to another friend of mine who wasn't able to register. She's considering it, but she may opt for touring the town instead if she decides to join us on the trip. Can your friend save me some chocolates too? I am going to be so dissapointed if we don't get any chocolate on the half! After all, we already miss out on the animal crackers since we aren't going by the zoo!

We are staying at the Best Western Americania. It is about a mile away from Union Square, plus we can get a room with three beds and the price is pretty good. The only thing is I read some negative comments about the neighbourhood around there. I'm not really planning on spending a ton of time in the hotel so hopefully it will be OK... Not sure if we'll walk to the start of the race or if we'll cab it. Maybe the hotel shuttle to Union Square will run a bit early for us.

Drive by... :car:

I have the Chi Running book. I read through it once and have tried some of the techniques, now need to go back to really start incorporating it. I have been able to go faster with "The Lean" but the booty-kick is escaping me right now.

Melissa...:wizard: for Phil.

Jen...:wizard: for foot. I think my pod was helpful, but was not a life-changing event ;)

Susie...congrats on your pace!! It's always cool to break one of those minute barriers!

Judy...sorry to hear about the geese. I personally have had white swan-related problems in the past, but understand that geese have a bit of a mean streak too ;)

OK, so I have this REALLY fast (win the awards in her age group fast) friend who wants me to sign up for a 5k with her...so we can run it together.:rotfl:  :rotfl: I tell her I will chase her on the 5k course...but WILL NOT be able to keep up...well she doesn't buy it, so I think I am going to sign up for kicks to see how fast I can do it...it has been a LONG time since I ran a 5k.

Melissa- LOTS OF PRAYERS FOR YOU AND DR PHILL!:hippie: And GIRL! You are tottallllly COOL!:cool2:

Susie – awesome pace! Congratulations on breaking that 14:00 pace!!! You have plenty of time between now and January to improve that even more! :woohoo:

Christa – I truly believe you have not even begun to tap your outrageous running speed yet! Go kick your friend’s booty. . . . . Errr. , I mean, yeah, sign up for that 5k and have fun! ;)

Ugh. Finally called the doctor's office (you all know how much I HATE doctors. Well, all except that miracle doc that cured my heart, of course! :lovestruc ). They can't get me in anytime today or tomorrow and he doesn't work Friday, but he won't call in an antibiotic for me either. Considering it has been 6 days and it only hurts when I breathe, I am thinking I might head to the standalone medical center, especially since 6 different people have now asked me if I'm sure it isn't bronchitis. I am just wondering what all this non-training time is doing to my pace!

I want to see the video. :happytv: :rotfl:

Hey Susie - I'm staying at the Grand Hyatt, too!:) I booked through Expedia and got airfare from Philly and 4 nights at the Hyatt for $700 :cool1:
Just pricing out airfare, it was running $429 for a direct flight.

I hope they give out Ghirardelli's during the 1/2, too!

Terri

Krista: hmmmm, I'm inside your head? Sorry to hear it! I'm not even in my own head! Hee, hee, hee....

Krista and Carrie: :thumbsup2 way to go on the runs! It does feel good, doesn't it?

Mel:  to you and Phil. I'll be thinking about you and hoping for good news or not so bad news.

Terri: congrats on being crutch-less! Yea!!! DD would whole-heartily agree that they are vile, evil things!!!

Dave: so what flavor did you have?

Leana: oooo, yuck! Please no snow, please no snow...

Monica: did I tell you my sister and I are walking the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon? I talked her into it. Calcio says I'm nuts and will have nothing to do with it. DSis said her DH would walk with us. I spoke with him a few weeks back and that was news to him!! Are you going to be there?

Judy: goose sprint!! :lmao:

Shan: be optimistic! We're here to support you. You can do it!

Stephanie: great job on the pain-free run! It sure seems like spring is making people more pain-free than before. I hope it's a trend that keeps going.

Cam: glad you got to the docs! Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon.

Today is my day off. These allergies are relentless so the rest should help. I hope it goes away soon. Tomorrow is speed work.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey all... did 40 minutes on the elliptical during DD's gymnastics. Work is outrageously stressful, so I need all the help I can get. Oh and new assistant/receptionist started today. Not sure I like it, but will adjust if it helps me get things done. I know she is new, but she isn't totally accurate. Let's just hope it is first day jitters.

Cam - :grouphug: GET BETTER SOON!! I thought I came down with a cold last weekend, but now I am convinced it is my allergies kicking in. Either way it makes it hard to breathe!

Judy - I am sorry, but your story cracked me up. I had a bad incident with a goose when I was in first grade... I am not keen on them at all!!!!!

First for a training update: today I went on a 5 mile run. I had a 9:29 pace, which i was happy about. The park I run in is a MESS!! Mud and water everywhere from the storm, since the river which runs along the trail flooded pretty bad. At least the trail is passable but it was interesting weaving in and out of all the mud.

I am starting to get a bit nervous about my race next week. I know in my head that I am ready, but sometimes it is hard to believe. My goal at this point is to just finish for this race, and try to keep the same pace i have been running during my training. If I do that I know I will be fine. Now I just have to hope for some nice weather!!!

Ok, now to catch up on everyone's posts!

Terri - that is a GREAT price. Wow! One of the friends that I'm going with got us a room with her frequent hotel points. I checked with Expedia and it would cost us $950 per person with hotel and air (staying at the Hyatt). My air alone is going to cost around $410 - and that's not a direct flight. I've been waiting to see if the fare would go down but I doubt it will.

Are any of you ladies going to wear a WISH shirt in the race? I'm thinking about it. Of course, the race is so far off - I'll make that decision when the time gets closer. :tilt:
