Without Pleasure Island, what to do?

Totally not sure if this is the correct forum but what the heck. My dh and I and kids (but they're teens and enjoy being on their own somewhat) are traveling to Disney in June. We haven't been since 2004 and w/o PI we aren't sure what to do for "alone" time. I thought about a nice dinner but really trying to avoid the whole food-centering thing and my idea of a fun time is not really 2+ hours in a restaurant.

Any suggestions? We're on the DDP but I don't want to limit ourselves and willing to pay OOP although we won't have a car so leaving on-site would be tough.

On Disney property there aren't a lot of nightlife options now that PI is closed. Atlantic Dance over at the Boardwalk is open every night and plays Top 40 Dance music and videos and is very similar to what Motion used to be.

Follow some of the discussions over in the Rumors & News thread of this website as there are constant updates about what is going on at PI. As you will see, they are reopening Motion, Soundstage and Adventurers Club for private parties. I am currently trying to book a test private party for late April or early May that would actually be open to the public via ticket sales. If I can come to terms and if that venture is at least break even, I may do one every month.

Other than that, seriously consider heading to Universal and visit CityWalk. An all-club ticket for the night is about $12 and its similar to what PI used to be, although not as good.

If the Boardwalk doesn't appeal to you, the next best thing would be to check out transportation through Mears for a taxi (or shuttle) to take you to CityWalk at Universal.

I second the suggestion of CityWalk. We spent an evening at CityWalk on our last trip. My dear husband got up and sang Love Shack at Rising Star (a live band karaoke club). As someone else pointed out, you can get a club-hopper pass for cheaper than the PI admission was, and it ends up being a similar experience that way.

I will say that CityWalk pales in comparison to my memories of PI, if only because PI's crowd was more to my liking. I'm hoping more PIers will find their way to CityWalk given time so that I can have my awesome many-men-all-night dance experience back.

I second the suggestion of CityWalk.

When the band is playing at Citywalk's Margaritaville it's a lot like RRBC. When the DJ is playing at Margaritaville, it's a lot like 8TRAX. The music at the Groove is a lot like Motion. The DJ at Bob Marleys plays a lot of BET Soundstage music. The Latin Quarter and Rising Star are unique and did not have anything similar at PI. But PI had Mannequins and Adventurers Club and Citywalk has nothing even close to those experiences.

May I suggest the Dueling Piano Bar known as Jellyrolls on the Boardwalk. . .I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. It is so much fun and the guys really get the crowd going. . .I liked this better than Pleasure Island. . .truly.

Totally agree with nurse.darcy! Even when PI was open, I spent most of my evenings at Jellyrolls and always had a great time!! Was just there - Sat. night was packed!! Got there late as I was at Mardi Gras earlier. Sunday and Monday nights were a LITTLE quieter, but still a good crowd for those nights.

Our twentysomething kids, who now vacation with us at WDW mostly on their own dime , really miss AC and Comedy Warehouse. They weren't into the dancing clubs.

They have grown from wanting to see the characters, to riding every ride, to liking good food and wanting to do something for a late evening.

We have had numerous 3 generation trips because there was something for everyone to do for the entire day.


I am seriously concerned about future family trips.

We are planning a beach vacation instead.

There's a bunch of restaurants in the area - I usually do ESPN or something like that.

Jellyrolls opens at 7pm, entertainment starts at 8. Last call is 1:30am, everyone is out around 1:45 and doors close promptly at 2.

I for one will miss Pleasure Island...it was fun to hang out there in the evenings after a late day in the parks. I guess the only thing to do w/o Pleasure Island is to finally get some sleep on my next DW trip
