with the FP+ enhancements do you still have to use the first 3 at the same park?

i'll be park hopping from HS to epcot

when i went in december i prebooked 3 FP+ at HS for TSMM, TOT, and muppets which was a throw away so that by the time i got to epcot it would be expired so i could go to a kiosk and see what was left for a 4th FP+.

so with the new enhancements could i prebook 2 FP+ at HS which would be TSMM and TOT and then book the 3rd FP+ at epcot via the MDE app after using the first 2 FP+ or do i still need to use all 3 at one park in order to be able to book another FP+ at a different park?

not sure if i'm making my question clear. its easier to understand in my head than when i type it out lol.

so if you're unsure as to what i mean feel free to ask questions.

The new system allows you to book up to 3 FPs in your first park. You can use them, allow them to expire, or Cancel/forfeit one or two.

When you book for Park #2 that day, you can only book 1 FP (4th FP and so on) at a time.

I've been here for 2 days now and have some clarifications to add.

You Have to make AND USE three fastpasses at the first park before the app will allow you to make additional fastpasses at another park or even let you choose another tier 1 ride. Letting them expire or making and using less than 3 won't work.

The first day I only made two Fastpass at Hollywood Studios (Toy Story and Tower of Terror) and tried to make an additional one for Epcot. It wouldn't let me do it. I went to a kiosk and it was making me choose another tier 2. The attendant told me I had to use the tier one and two tier two FP before I could choose for another park. I chose another FP from tier 2 and a soon as I used it the app let me choose another from that or any other park.

Today I made 3 fastpasses for Hollywood again but didn't get here in time for the first one (Star Tours). It expired. I rode the other two (again Toy Story and Tower of Terror). Because I hadn't actually ridden Star Tours I couldn't make a Fastpass at another park.

When I realized missing Star Tours was causing a problem I went in and cancelled it even though it had expired hours earlier. It didn't help at all and I still couldn't schedule at another park.

I left and went to Epcot and was able to make another Fastpass selection at a kiosk just as it used to be but unless you actually scan your card or Magic band at the 3 attractions at your first park, the app won't bring up the ability to book at another park.

Thanks for reporting this! They must be tweaking the system for using the app for the 4th FP.

After you rode TSMM and ToT, would the app have allowed you to book another Tier 1 at DHS because 2 were used and 1 was expired?

ok so then what you're saying is that i'd have to make 3 at HS as usual and then actually go in and cancel the throw away regardless of whether its expired or not in order to then go on the app and make a 4th selection at epcot for a tier 1 or tier 2 ride?

No, what @tatersalad is reporting is that if you don't use all 3 allotments at the 1st park, you can only select a FP from a kiosk at the 2nd park.

That differs from how the app had been working for selecting a 4th.

Hiro is right. Cancelling didn't help as far as getting a 4th from the app. I actually had to physically check in for all 3 before the app would allow me to book at another park.

To answer your question about booking on my phone for a third after riding TOT and TSMM and one being expired, since I wasn't getting the app to say I could book at another park I cancelled the expired instead of trying to modify. Can't say for sure what would have happened. Sorry! It's been very frustrating. Especially on day one when I went to the kiosk when I couldn't figure out why I couldn't book another tier 1 (actually I was asking about another park but scanned my magic band there to see what would happen) and got a lecture from a less than helpful employee about not being able to just book tier one Fastpass. His exact words were "you have to pick another (third) tier 2. You can't just use a tier 1 and then come back for another tier 1."

I hope it is just a glitch because it's a pain. Just wanted to report my experience.

It sounds like Disney has tweaked it. In park usage is definitely all 3 before a 4th is chosen. It appears they applied it to hopping.

When using the app, did you use "+" > Date and Park > then all the prompts? Or, did you Cancel or Modify?

When I was able to make the 4th I just clicked on the + sign and picked Fastpass and when I was able it automatically said something like it looks like your party is eligible to make another Fastpass and it brought up all 4 parks and you went from there.

Thanks @tatersalad! It definitely sounds like they have tweaked this because Canceling remaining FPs and choosing for another park worked the first week the new system was in place.

When I wasn't able to make additional fastpasses online because I hadn't used all 3 it just brought up the following days' selections when you went into fastpasses and didn't say anything about how to proceed with the same day's selection. That's when I went to the kiosk to inquire.

That's too bad. I hadn't read about the issues I'm having so just thought I would post my experience. Would be nice if it was just a temporary glitch!

I even gave my phone to someone working at the kiosk because I thought maybe I was missing something. She took it and said, no, I tried it both ways and it won't let you book at another park. That's when I realized I had to make and use another Fastpass in tier 2 before I could book online at another park. Or book anything other than the second tier 2 at that park.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind being so stingy and restrictive with them that they won't allow park hopping from the get-go. I know this is for a different discussion but I would just love to be able to book our 3 as 2 at Epcot and 1 at HS for example. What is it they have against park hopping with them?!

this is exactly how i feel.
it would make a heck of a lot more sense to allow this.
what's the point in park hopping anymore?
i don't park hop much but when i do i'd like to be able to make 2 for one park and 1 for another park. even if it has to be a tier 2 at the second park.
so now i'm using or wasting a fastpass that i never wanted to begin with when someone else could have used it.

I've been booking fast passes the same day the last couple weeks. I've done less than 3 at 1 park and booked the next park while in route to it. I think the trick is you can't do it in advance and you can't have any unused fastpasses when you book the next park..

I will say this though, many parks run out and close down geting more fastpass pretty fast if there is any type or medium sized crowd.. other days, the fastpass lines have actually been longer in some rides from people getting a lot of them and it's quicker to just use standby.. summer crowds are going to be interesting.

@marciemi is in the park today and has researched FP booking and hopping.

Here is her post from the FP Superthread:
The FastPass+ Frequently Asked Questions Superthread

The DHS system may have been glitching for @tatersalad as Cancelling had been attempted.

The best advice is to at least Cancel and attempt to book for the 2nd park while in the 1st park and hope the system isn't glitching.

thank you for showing me this thread.
i've asked her about my scenario just to make sure i am understanding it right.

Just to clarify....Let's say I use all three scheduled FP+s in the first park, can I make the next on My Disney Experience from my phone while still in the first park (before I arrive at the second park)?

Sorry in advance if this a repetitive question! :guilty:
