This is like a soap opera.

But anyway, he said if I really want to do it, I should...but he's still not convinced.

Well you guys, I don't think anything will really convince him, but I am calling tomorrow before he changes his mind. I think once all is said and done and we begin to enjoy our memorable vacations, he will say to me "why didn't we do this sooner?". I'm standing my ground on this one and I think that, in the long run, he will be glad I didn't cave.

Thanks again for all your responses. Funny thing is, my DH still doesn't think you guys are real. Go figure!!!!

Wish me luck!

Kathy

Seems like lots of DH (and some DW) have changed their tunes once they've actually stayed at a DVC. Hopefully, your husband will be one of them! Congratulations on your decision. An early "welcome home" from one of your imaginary friends. ;)

I too would call tomorrow before he changes his mind.;) I went through the same thing with my dh and am hoping he will be glad when we take our first trip home in 3 weeks. He finally realized how important it was to me (and I think he liked the idea of having so much space when we travel with the kids:D ). Let us know what happens.

Why do DH's have to be like this? We've already taken 3 or 4 DVC trips, my DH likes our vacations much more now, he rarely complains while on them LOL... it took us forever to buy as well. DH can no longer complain about how he "let" me buy DVC... I offered to sell our contract & had a buyer all set up, and what do you think he said??? NO!! That was the last time he was able to throw it in my face.... I honestly have no idea why DH's are like this!!!

My DH is the same and really not into WDW at all. He did buy it for me and July 14th will be his first trip home. We're going to VB first, but I really hope he'll love VWL, our "home". We had a disagreement recently and mentioned out "big purchase" being a weight around our necks, but I have planned a very relaxing trip, without too much visiting of the parks. (We've been many times before) I hope that he'll be one of the converts and end up being happy with our purchase. I'll report when we get back on July 22!

I guess my wife is lucky to have me, I tell her she is every day.

We both were anxious to buy in after our introduction to the timeshare industry in St Maartan the year before.

In my case, it was DW that had to be convinced in 1995, but it wasn't difficult and we have enjoyed DVC tremendously ever since. I think you both will, too! ;)

Three years ago we were going to spend our vacation at BWV in a 1 bdrm "just this once" as DS was 16 and I foolishly thought it would be the last time he would want to go on a family vacation. We actually had never even stayed onsite before - 4 previous trips all offsite.

We got a card from DVC inviting us to take the tour and I was going to toss it, thinking DVC would be way too expensive and DH probably would not be the least bit interested. HE was the one who said "what can it hurt to look?".

Anyway, we had the normal jaw-dropping reaction most folks have when we walked into our 1 bdrm (and they gave us a Boardwalk view, how sneaky was that?). We took the tour and DH thought it looked like a good deal. DH, by the way, is a number crunching, run the statistics type accountant/economist and HE said there was no way to lose. Plus we had the best vacation ever. The rest, of course, is history. And by the way, DS is still going on family vacations with us. Only now he brings a buddy from college.

Yeah Kathy!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Buy, and buy quickly before he changes his mind. You won;t regret it. We have yet to stay on points, Jan. will be our first time, and we can;t wait! My DH fell in love with the Boardwalk area, its proximity to EPCOT, and all the things to do. I don;t plan on regretting it, the only thing I will regret is that we did not buy enough points! But that is another thread...

Call quick before DH comes up with some crazy idea to back out!

My DW was the one in our bunch that needed convincing. I am the type that once I get on some kick I keep on until something happens. My DW is the acct. in the family, always calculated.

This past Sat. we went to some friends lake house. The husband was telling us how his wife's job kept her busy 15 hr. days 7 days a week. They are never able to go on trips and enjoy because of this. I told my DW these people are perfect candidates for DVC. That way they have to use it and we all know what WDW does for you, makes me forget my other life for a little while.

I don't see nuthin' wrong with that, do yall!!!

WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure your dh will come around once it's fact and you take your first visit 'home'. Congrats on your 'almost purchase'.!

I don't mean to take up so much space but one point came to mind that might help to further your cause and I think its a good cause at that.

My daughter's piano teacher was telling me 2 weeks ago (she knows how much we love WDW) that she and her family went to WDW in Oct. 1971, the month it opened and stayed at The Contemporary for $25 a night. I'm sure that was a lot of money back then. According to the 2001 Birnbaum's guide, a stay at The Contemporary for that year in Oct. would have been priced between $244-$510 depending upon which room you choose. Now consider the suites costing even more because they tell us to call for those prices. Talk about inflation!

Throw this into the equation, Holiday Inn, Ramada, Marriott, Etc., all of those have gone up and will continue to go up as the years go by also. BUT, think what the prices will be in 2042, 40 yrs. from now at these places and at WDW resorts. Its kind of scary when you look at it that way.

Anyway, I'm just a carpenter at trade so I may not be the brightest person in the world, but our kids are only young once and we hope they will remember our cherished trips together for the rest of their lives. You know your DH better than anybody so use this info. if you think it will help. Sorry that it was so long but I feel like I'm on a bit of a crusade here.

At any rate GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!

Stand your ground!! Once he gets a load of the rooms he will not regret it one bit!!

My first post here, so bear with me. I've been following your saga of the unconvinced dh and just had to respond.

Both myself and dh thought DVC was a great idea, but put off buying till last year. They sent us a postcard to stay for $99/night for 3 nights and get a 4th night free at HH if we went to the presentation. We took a long weekend in October, with intentions of buying once we got there, just unsure which resort we wanted for our home... a really hard sell, right? :-)
Anyway, we fell in love with the place and were amazed at the size of the two bedroom we had there. Bought 200 points then and just added on at BCV a few weeks ago.
We're going 'home' to HH for the first time a week from today and the excitement level is running high at our house about now.
We're taking our 9 year old son, grown daughter, son-in-law and baby granddaughter along. The best part is, my parents, who live in FL and would normally be up North for the summer, weren't able to come this year. Mom had some medical problems and has dr. follow-ups, etc. till mid July. So, we suggested they just meet us there, stay the whole time, plenty of room, come see your new great-granddaughter. You know Great-Grandma is just itching to get her arms around that baby! My dh was reading this thread this afternoon and looked at me and said we'd never be able to do this for our family if it wasn't for DVC.

I guess what I'm saying is all of the advantages may not be immediately apparent with a DVC purchase.
So, get on that phone first thing in the morning! I don't think your dh will ever regret it. Good luck to you and we'll be watching for updates!!

scootersmom,

Welcome to the DIS. What part of NE Ohio are you from? You will really enjoy HH and all the DVC resorts.

kathyg,

I would make sure you make that call at 9:00 am sharp ;)

Just keep this in mind:

DVC means .......

DISNEY - No explanation needed there

VACATION - 40 years worth of escape

CLUB - Club = Membership = Family: Welcome Home

P.S. Yes, we are all real.

While we are real, your husband is not completely wrong.

My check is late again this moth, this is the third time in a row, I am sick of it, I am going to tell her.

We actually get paid by Disney per phrase. Different phrases are worth different amounts. We also get bonuses for working phrases into un-related topics.

Here is a partial list of the pricing.

$0.50 We have never regretted our purchase for a second.
$0.50 Buying DVC was the best decision we ever made.
$0.50 The spacious rooms make WDW Vacations a whole new thing
$1.00 Know that my children will be able to enjoy it for many years is a good feeling.
$1.00 There is no better feeling than walking into my DVC home with guests and watching the expressions on their faces.
$1.00 we fell in love with the place and were amazed at the size of the two bedroom we had there

Tearjerkers like this can be worth an extra $10

Is a nice way to make extra money, but if these checks keep coming late, I am going to blow the lid on this!!!!

Rich..

You forgot-

Our only regret is that we didn't buy in sooner!

;)

For me it was necessary to convince DW. I love all things Disney, but she needs the beach and some variety too. Between Vero, HH, WDW and trading out for Disney Cruises she is now very happy too!

Also, after seeing the DVC rooms she was completely sold! Just get him to a room and its a done deal! :)

... just another FIGMENT of your imagination...
