a 9.2% saving not the 32% disney claim then again youve not factored in CS or snacks
Paulh

I don't think the difference of $130 is about the same, that another DP day for 3 adults and a child! This analysis says buy the DP. Not sure if you added in both tax and tip in the Non DP, but both need to be included. For the new DP appetizers would be extra on the DP.

I did a quick analysis for just one adult on the 5day trip we're taking at the end of the month. Our pricing was even closer, but on the DP I could order lobster if I wanted to for no extra cost.

I have to add taxes as well? I did not know that. That would make it even closer. I think Disney should have gone with dessert or Appetizer on the TS. Not just dessert, that would have made it more attractive to my family, since DW and I always share these two, that way I could order the appetizer and she the dessert, everyone would be much happier LOL. :lmao: Ohh well.

Nope it will make it further in favor of the plan. Don't add in the tip since its the same on each side. Add in 6.5% tax for each TS meal, total your TS meals and add to the cost of CS and snacks. Compare that number to the cost of the plan.

For example if Coral Reef cost $120 for dinner, that's $128 with taxes added.

I thought you meant taxes were not included in the dinning plan. I did add taxes for the meals w/o DP.

Anyone else with opinions?

For how many adults and children are you figuring? and at what plan price? basic or plus

Is this for this year or next?? And are the kids under 10 years old??

The one thing I see missing in your analysis is, you haven't figured in the cost of the other meals you will eat. The DP includes 1 snack, 1 CS and 1 TS and the only things you listed were the TS meals. Redo your math with cost of all the meals you will eat and you should see a bigger difference between the cost of the plan and not having the plan.

Nine nights you have eight dinners, what about the ninth? and what about the nine days of counter service meals? and snacks?

Also what food figures are you using to arrive at the cost for each meal without the dining plan?

I don"t see what you mean since I have added them to the total of the TS
I added 1150+CS+Snacks= 1535.00 for the Non DP option. For the DP option I added the cost of the DP + tips.

With regards to the other meals ( the 9th night) I will pay OOP anyway with or without DP so there is no need to add them.

I get what you are saying - your cost with the ddp is the cost of the ddp + OOP costs for tips; which is why you are showing the amount of tip for each restaurant. Your cost without using ddp is the cost of each meal and snacks. Your calculations look good. That is about the 'savings' we see in using the ddp. However since we wouldn't have eaten all those places or food without the ddp, it actually costs us a bit more to use the ddp than to not use it.

Anyone else with opinions?

I just finished doing a similar analysis for a trip I'm planning for next year, and I came to the same conclusion as you...I don't see where the dining plan is going to save me any money. Part of that is probably being skewed by things that may not be applicable to your case, though:

1) I am going during a time when no room discounts will be available (holiday season). So, I will need to pay rack rate for my room whether I do the dining plan or not. If I could get a room discount, though, then that would even further hurt the affordability of the dining plan for me.

2) I already have park tickets (purchased from a third party source), so I would need to buy a 1 day ticket from Disney to do the dining plan. The cost of that "unnecessary" 1 day ticket hurts the affordability of the dining plan for me.

Good luck with your decision! :)

Sorry. I missed the CS & Snacks added in. Brain Fart.

I've been working over the numbers and think I have my decision.

My situation is 2 adults($38.99) 2 kids (9.99).
10 night stay.
Dine wants (5 buffet, 5 other)
Looked at all menues to come up with prices, tax, tip (18%, less for buffet).

Buffet Lunch
Le Cellier
Buffet
Italy (whatever the name will be)
Buffet break
Buffet Dinner
Coral Reef
ESPN (ok bad value on ddp, but hey I want to go there)
50 Prime Time
Buffet Lunch

DDP basic plan cost: $960
DDP Tip: $100
Total: $1060

Without the plan I would order less, maybe just water, rarely dessert. CS and Snack would remain the same.

Food cost: $1090
Tip: $80 (because we order less food)
TAX: $68 (remember tax on all food including snack and CS)
Total: $1238

DDP cost savings = $178
Cost savings/night = $17.80

Did I miss something? My brain hurts now.
