With age comes fear...has this happened to you?

Yep, it has happened to me. I don't do roller coasters anymore, i used to when i was a silly teenager, though :) I also was a ride op at Knotts Berry farm , rollercoasters, and i saw the rides malfuntion a few times and i think that has a lot to do with my rollercoaster un- riding.lol

I seem to have the opposite reaction!! When I was younger, there is no way in heck I would go near a rollercoaster. Gradually I worked up my nerve to ride and now I am 51 and can't get enough!! The scarier the better!! I loved Kraken!!!! Now I find myself talking my kids (age 21 & 23) into the scarier stuff!!! woo hoo!!!! Can't wait to ride them all in May!!!! :Pinkbounc

This has happened to me too... I am 33 and used to ride thrill rides continuously-Rock-n-Roller coaster, T-O-T, etc.... but now I can't do them. I'm also fearful now of going through tunnels (ie. Boston Dig) and over large bridges.... the anxiety all pretty much started after becoming a mom....

I am 37 years old and I still love SOME of the coasters and things. TOT is my fave ride and I have ridden every scary ride at every theme park in Florida but I find that with every year older I get, I'm slowly turning into a chicken sh*t. Rides that I loved before are making me anxious. I stand there with a wary look in my eyes and think oh, I don't know, then my peeps drag me on and I'm fine.

Last trip to WDW/US/SW was Feb of 2005 and I am already thinking that I don't think I will ride the scaries. It's mostly the really scaries like Kraken, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, but I'm also even starting to feel leary of RRC.

Has this happened to you and is it normal or am I just a freak?! :scared1: :scared: :earseek:

well, YEAH  When I was 17 I was invincible. Now I can crack a bone just getting tossed around on a coaster. I get vertigo on merry-go-rounds. Panic attacks have their way with me. I have great insurance, but who wants to use it? :confused3

Welcome to old age

.Has this happened to you ...
I am 73, and am planning my next solo trip to WDW for the week after Thanksgiving. I don't think it is age that makes me change the list of rides I will or will not ride. Rather, for me at least, it is what I call the "jerky bumpyness" of a ride that causes me to rule it out.

For example, I love the Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain and Expedition Everest because those are all what I call "smooth rides."

However, I will not ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Star Tours, or Dinosaur because of the jerks and bumps on these rides.

But on a smooth ride like Expedition Everest, I simply relax and enjoy the ride. By the way, when riding a coaster, I do not feel the need to hold my arms up to show that I'm brave. It's not because I need to hold on to something, but rather because I find it difficult to relax while holding my arms up in the air.

So, it's not age that bothers me (so far), it's "jerky bumpy."

Perhaps this will change when I get old.

Enjoy.

I salute you! I use to go over and over to but once is now enough for me also. I also agree with the Ferris Wheel lady. Just fuggetaboutit!!! Also the Astro Orbiter. Never again. The first and only time I rode, my then 3 year old begged and everyone else was off doing something else. Forget that the thing is about 100 years old but it's way too high and my toddler kept jerking the stick up and down. Oh man, thought I was going to die! I'm glad to see that I'm not alone and I do have an 18 and 9 year old to help keep me young. So yes they do drag me on but Summit Plummet? Oh H*LL NO! It's funny how certain rides just put the fear in me and yes it's fear, just can't pinpoint exactly what kind. Maybe a few different things. All I can say is that if I can still ride TOT when I'm 70, that would be pretty dang cool!

I'm glad it's not just me!

I rode my first roller coaster at the age of six, and remember it fondly. I continued to ride them non stop...

Now though (I'm 30).. I get so sick when I ride them, I worry that they are going to fall apart, I worry about the physics of the ride.

But, for my kids, I continue to ride them. If they want to go on a ride, I will join in on the "fun".

I did love all of the rides at WDW, I didn't feel sick even once. It must be disney magic.

I've mostly been heading the opposite direction myself. Many of he rides that used to bother me more, I've become less sensative towards. there are someI still won't go on....

For me a criitical turning point was a particular evening when I had a reaction to something I ate. After I threw up, the rest of my family wanted to go back othe park, I had the choice of going to the room, but I didn't want to be whimpy, as I had good reason to think that I would soon feel better.

At MK, I went on the tamest ride of all - IaSM. The rocking of the boat made me feel awful. We got back out in the night air, my family hit a few things, and I felt much better. I went on Pirates. Again, the rocking made me feel awful. The next day though, I felt better than fine, and nothing I went on bothered me.

I think for me, going back to WDW helps me overcome my concerns. The only ride I'm don't really care about going on again is the original Mission:SPACE. I could, but I don't feel particularly motivated for it. I did brave E:E though, and LOVED it. I also really enjoyed the Mummy Ride. The special effects on both make the motion worth enduring.
