(With a nod to Jimmy Buffet)…Here’s a Love Story from a Slightly Different Point of View!

Love Story = our love affair with WDW

Characters Involved=2 women, hovering in and around middle age, who love to travel to WDW to “let out the child within”

Did I say Sunday morning was our “sleep in” morning? T’was not to be! At 5:30 a.m. the 2 or 3 older kids next door were awake, obviously riding elephants and ready to go! When the noise didn’t subside, we decided to get up and try Olivia’s for breakfast. I’m the breakfast lover of our pair and would certainly recommend Olivia’s for this meal! It was a great start to the day. Potatoes are one of my favorite food groups and theirs are great. The day was warm and breezy and we meandered around the resort, rented bikes for a quick trip to Downtown Disney, signed up for a Wednesday massage, and ended up at the pool. It was a relaxing afternoon and we headed back to the room to get ready for our evening entertainment…

The Hoop Dee Doo Review, or as we commonly refer to it. the Hoop Dee Doop Dee Doo Review is a favorite of ours. Mary wore her standard HDD garb, bib overalls and a plaid shirt (she says it helps her get in the “mood”) and we drove our lovely red Vue to Fort Wilderness. (“Everything’s backward in this thing”, I believe was the now unsubtle mumble.) We were thrilled to get table 13! Table 13 is right up against the stage for a ringside view. The food, especially the chicken, was extra good (although the only food true Hoop Dee Dooers go there for is the “corn”!... Ah, sometimes I just crack myself up. I truly am easily amused). The performers, as always, kept us in stitches. I don’t know how they maintain their enthusiasm through all the shows they do! Yes, we’ve seen the show more than once or twice, but it never fails to make us laugh. Following the show, the night was still warm and we opted to jump on the hayride. The horses are so beautiful. (Am I the only one surprised that they now wear diapers?) I hadn’t done this in years so I was anxious to see if it still held the same mystique. Sadly, the answer is “no”…because of the advent of flashlights! I think every person on that trip had a flashlight. Finally one of the men (passenger) said, “Can’t you all just turn them off, sit back, relax and be quiet?” What I remember from that ride years ago is the children with me cuddling up close because it was so dark and just a little bit spooky. Just like all those years ago, the Electrical Water Pageant appeared magically out of the darkness. We (the adults) loved it…the children said “Is that all?”

We were deposited back near Pioneer Hall and hopped on the bus to the parking lot. We got back to the studio about 11 and tried to be very quiet so we didn’t wake our neighbors. Just as we got into bed and pulled up the covers, Junior began to cry. After what seemed like a million years we finally got some sleep.

The neighbors were up and at ‘em by 5:45 again, so we got up to get ready for our Animal Kingdom day. On our last trip, a CM at the Festival of the Lion King show made some very special magic for us by gifting us with a fast pass to the Safari ride. At that time, we had been visiting with him while waiting for the Festival of the Lion King show and had mentioned that the park was so busy that fast passes had run out already at our favorite ride. He excused himself for a minute and came back and wrote out a special fast pass. To say both of us were thrilled is an understatement! And on that particular Safari ride we saw more animals than we ever had before. It was so nice and soooo unexpected. We wanted to do something nice for him, so we brought along one of our last WWWD (What Would Walt Do) pins to gift him with. We went to the show entrance and asked if Peter was working. There were a lot of “suits” around that day because they were testing the fast pass for the Lion King show. (Which we thought was a great idea!) I was directed to one of these gentlemen and asked for Peter. I wish I had gotten his name as he was very gracious and helpful. We explained what Peter had done for us and that we just wanted to give him this pin if it wouldn’t be too much trouble. The man’s face lit up and he told us he would get Peter for us. He also said we were lucky we caught him because Peter had just been given a promotion and wouldn’t be at the show after this week. The gentleman (I believe Peter mentioned later that he was his boss) and Peter came toward us and we greeted Peter and reiterated our thanks for the magic he created on our last trip. Peter seemed genuinely pleased that we took the time to say thanks and accepted the pin with a smile. We were just turning to walk away when Peter said to his boss, “May I?” and the gentleman responded, “Of course!” Peter asked us to follow him and he wrote out another pass for us…this one for ALL the AK attractions! We kept telling him we didn’t want anything…that we were just thanking him for his previously kind act but he insisted. I’d be lying if I told you that both of us were anything less than ecstatic! What a special day that was and what a special CM Peter Olivo is! Bless him!

Following that pixie dust day we headed to Boma for dinner. Boma has become a favorite of ours and it’s so great to see families and even the kids experimenting with new foods and flavors. Neither Mary nor I drink alcohol so our waitress suggested “Frunch” which we jumped at! What a great mix of juices. We had a table by the windows so we were out of the hustle and got to relax a bit. I do believe we grazed through all of Africa that evening! The soups are amazing. There were so many but my favorite that night was a smoked chicken and corn chowder…yummmmm! And oh those desserts……..as I write this I find myself salivating at the thought of a zebra dome. We got back in the car (and after finding the light switch) headed back to OKW for another night of interrupted sleep. By this time, we looked like we were carrying our luggage under our eyes and I confess to being a bit concerned about my friend’s health.

Coming tomorrow...TOT...my fav!

I love your trip report.....

My DD has hated the ASMu because we could hear the converation of the people beside us. I thought it was the connecting door. We didn't have that problem at WL. But then again, we didn't have the problem at PORFQ..... and it had a connecting door!

Anyway, as another middle aged lady, I love your reports. Thanks for sharing your trip....

Another great report! Can't wait to hear about one of my favs, ToT!
