Wishes Soundtrack is available!

I bought it and it's a disappointment.

They used the exact same master as the one they use at the park. They should've re-EQ it a bit to for home-hifi use.

At the park they use horn-loaded tweeter which physical properties lend them to higher sensitivity in the upper frequencies. To combat this character, the mastering engineer needed to lower the frequency response of the recording a little bit.

However, using the exact same master (without literally spending about 20 minutes of re-EQing) results in dull high freqeuncies.

Bottom line? The recording quality, although acceptable, is disappointing at best.

I ordered two and received them in the mail today. I must say it was somewhat of a disappointment. It's just too short! Don't know what I was expecting, but I felt let down after hearing it. Of course, I still got chill bumps listening to Star Light, Star Bright.

I didn't have any problems with the quality of the sound of the CD.

The Wishes CD is great. It's just like being there.

not exactly.

I compared the video recording of Spectro versus its soundtrack CD and the EQ is remarkably similar. Whereas Wishes soundtrack CD is much more dull compared to the video recording from the park (and it's not my camcorder mic, it was recorded using Sennheiser external microphone).

As a producer, I'm angered that Disney doesn't take an additional 20 minutes to tweak the master recording.

Hmm... I was hoping to pick up a copy but maybe I'll hold off if the quality isn't too good.

FatCow -- I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not but have you thought about sending an e-mail to Disney?

Yes, actually, I sent a snail mail to Buena Vista Records explaining the difference and even provided them with the difference between the live show vs soundtrack CD for Spectro as a comparison tool to live show vs soundtrack CD for Wishes, plus a re-EQ'd version I did in my studio.

No, the sound quality is not 'godawful', it's just not as good as it can be and it bothers me to no end because in order to do a better mastering all they had to put is a 20-minute re-EQ job that won't cost them more than US$200 (including the creation of a glass master).

It will be interesting to hear their response. I wouldn't be surprised if you get a lawyer letter telling you not to duplicate their material:rolleyes: I understand you you did it only for illustrative purposes, but they can be funny like that. I'm a bit of an audiophile too, so I feel (or hear?) your pain

Are you Dis-ers finding that the cd is now generally available in shops throughout the property? I had experiences in the past with new Disney cd releases taking an unusually long time to get distributed in shops throughout the resort.;)

For some reason Buena Vista Records is affiliated, at least according to the internal industry directory book I subscribe to... Universal... I'm confused.

I dealt with Universal before (at a professional level) and usually they are not THAT bad. Therefore I hope they don't take my input the wrong way.
