WISHES IS GONE (leaving in May)

It would be interesting to see if WDW would ever do what they did with DLF and have different projection areas around the park. WDW doesn't have that big iasw facade to project on...I'm not sure what they could do it on at the MK. It would be nice, though. The experience at DLR was so different, depending on where you watched it..and it was worth it to see it from all of the different viewpoints.

Could you at least project on the back of the castle? Or are there projections already there? We normally watch Wishes from Frontierland and I have no idea what they'd do about projections back there. A few removable screens on Tom Sawyer Island?

Nope, for me it was creepy. It reminded me of the girl in Poltergeist when she turns and says "they're here!"
LOL...I know some people think It's a Small World is creepy, but I didn't realize that Wishes creeped people out too. I don't even have kids, so maybe I just don't know the difference between a regular child voice and a creepy child voice. :D

No projections on the back of the castle. I don't know for sure but I don't believe the projectors are positioned in a way that can show anything on the back. And I don't see them adding that in either. They just redid the projectors as it is, so the system they have now is the new system. I don't expect they'll be changing it again so soon after reworking it.

I am one who loves Wishes from the back of the castle. It's my favorite place to watch. It put you in the center of the fireworks. People who watch back there for the first time are truly amazed and speechless when they see it for the first time.

Bummer. That would seem like a good way to spread out the crowds more, but your reasoning makes sense for why it's unlikely. I just can't fathom what Main Street will look like now if there's nowhere else to spread out viewing to.

Yes, while I'm open minded in regards to the new show I am concerned about the crowds that it will bring. A show with projections will not disperse the crowds the same way the old show did. Plus, you have to consider how many skipped Wishes over the past few years just because they've seen it so many times they consider it something to skip. Those folks will want to catch the new show at least once, I'd assume.

So many take every change Disney does these days as negative. No change can possibly be positive, an improvement. It seems as though it's "cool" to "hate" on changes at Disney.
Thankfully, I'm not cool. Sure, they make mistakes. A bit too many these days. But not everything they do is to screw over the guest. Sometimes the complaints that it is their goal get old.

I think you hit the nail right on the head.

If the new show is as big/ magical/ majestic as wishes, then I think most, if not nearly all, will be ok with this.

People are understandably worried that the new show is a cost cutting change resulting in a less satisfying show.

I am really excited about the new show. I started going to Disney in 2005 and it's been Wishes this whole time. I love Wishes. I still cry even just listening to the music. But I'm ready for something new.

And I LOVE the projection technology. I think it adds a whole new level of magic to the show/story. I just watched on YouTube the new Remember, Dreams Come True with projections and think it's amazing.

I do think in general WDW is losing a lot of its charm. They keep cutting those little extras (Push ) that make the parks special.
But updating the nighttime entertainment needs to be done every once in awhile and I'm looking forward to the new show.

This is one thing I hoped to never hear happen. I don't care how good this new show might be. Wishes is a tradition. Wishes is what I look forward to most on the trip.

The soundtrack alone makes you feel like your in another world. Hearing star light star bright, first star I see tonight, till this day makes my heart melt and brings tears. It's the perfect cap off of a day at magic kingdom.

This is something that everyone should experience. I understand that some of you have seen wishes 100 times but it never stops you from feeling it in your heart while you watch it.

This is a sad day for me and something I think Disney will regret. They most likely will scale back on the fireworks also to save money

Classic Disney is what made it have its charm. I'm not a fan of adding all these newer movies in that have zero impact like the classics. There basic movies that won't ever be remembered. Not timeless classics

Wishes should stay forever imo. I highly doubt I will get chills watching and hearing this new one
For today's children, who will eventually grow into adults, those "basic movies" are movies they grew up with & that are special to them. They certainly did have an impact! :)

People like to idealize their own childhoods - to the point that some never leave, and not in a good way :scared1: - but the reality is that times change & Disney would do well to incorporate a good mix of older and newer films.

Exactly. The kids that are seeing these movies will grow up and have families and they'll be classic movies to them. Stuff that is classic to us will be as ancient as a silent film is to me ;)
And many of the movies on the list for the new show are classics from the childhood of those with little ones now, like Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. They are "new movies" to me, but not my DD (in her mid 30's)
You've got to find what appeals to all and like it or not, newer movies appeal

I guess I'm one of the few that thinks this new show will have the same amount, if not more fireworks. "Light up the sky like never before" to me doesn't correlate to less pyro
Could they mean with drones?

Yeah, not to mention some of the new Disney movies are sure to be true classics. Maybe not all of them, but Frozen certainly has some serious staying power. Tangled too. They are making modern classics right before our eyes.

Anything is possible but I think drones is extremely unlikely.
I know little about drones but would they ever have them 1, over the head of thousands of people and 2, around where fireworks are in the sky?

The video used this line in direct reference to the pyrotechnics team. Those with some doubts really should watch that 2 minute video. I don't know how it's all going to turn out, but it made me smile and look forward to the new show.

You should visit the thread in the News and Rumors section of the board. Rumors coming in that there will be less pyro from those with inside connections...but yes they are rumors.
Speaking of that thread, this was posted from the Blog

Just saw on the parks blog: someone had asked about viewing from different spots outside the park and the response was that the new show had been designed so that it can still be enjoyed from all the same places you can view wishes from now. That gives me some hope. I was fairly disappointed with the Star Wars spectacular and it's lack of viewing and pyro so I was worried about this too.

I'm mostly sad about this but I know whatever Disney will think of next will be amazing so I can't be too sad. For me, I loved Wishes and cried every time I saw it but I think it's mostly nostalgia. I remember the first time I had gone back to Disney as an adult with my boyfriend and I cried so much once I hear the "starlight staaaaarbright" it reminded me of the trips I would take with my mom and brother. Having seen Disneyland Forever though, I have to admit they were waaaay better than Wishes but I still preferred Wishes again because of nostalgia. Now I'm mostly sad that the last time I saw it was...the last time I saw it. I wish I knew that going in. Meh

Pretty sad about this but hope the replacement is as good as some expect. My dramatic 8 year old is saying, "Disney is taking away my childhood" and had a fireworks dream last night. 8-) Dh said he is ok with DS and I taking a quick visit before it closes, but after looking into prices I just can't get myself to pull the trigger.

I'm doing the same thing. I can't get the cost for 3 nights under $1000 for 2 people, and that is a lot of money for 2 days in the parks, mainly to see the fireworks. $420 for 2 2-day base tickets, I'm having a hard time with. Airfare is the same, and then a value resort for 3 nights, ick. Can't quite do it.

I love Wishes, and my last viewing experience was not ideal--someone stepped in front of me at the last minute, blocking a lot of my view. I thought, "Oh well, I'll see it next time". And now there may not be a next time.

DH and I happen to have an April trip booked, for our Anniversary and for the Dark Side 10k. We'll make a point to catch Wishes from the front of the castle this time. It's been a while since we saw it from there. Need an image in my mind of it with the castle in the front one last time.
