Firstly, can anyone who has done it tell me whether it was worth it. If we manage to book one, I would probably try and find someone to share with but want to know it's worth the $120 if we can't find anyone to share.

Secondly, do the Wishes cruises run when Hallowishes is on?

Thirdly, if we wanted to video Wishes, would it be easy enough to do or would it be better to do it from within the park (on another night)?

Thanks.

Well I can sort of help with some of this.....

We did the Wishes Cruise in December 04 and it was fantastic. It was blooming freezing that night though which did take away the enjoyment somewhat ;)

I am not sure if you realize and I may have got this wrong but I have a horrible feeling the price has gone up substantially from what you posted there :(. I found this:

Pontoon Basic: A 21-foot pontoon boat, which seats a maximum of 8. The price for the Pontoon Basic is $187.79 + tax, and the cost includes a driver, bagged snacks (pretzels, chips, popcorn), water and Coke products. Audio from Wishes is NOT piped in to the Pontoon Basic.
We also gave a tip of about $20 to our driver.

I recommend sharing with another Diser to reduce costs :)

Whether it was value for money or not I don't know - this is a very personal thing I guess. I am glad we did it but as it is a lot of money I might not do it again.

I did the Wishes cruise last November and with 8 of us it worked out at $25 each. It was good because you get to see the Water Pagaent thing as well. The view of the fireworks was fantastic and I videoed it fine. The only downside was that it was very cold and also you cant really hear the music.

Joh - here is the part from my trip report for Wishes. Sadly there is more about the temperature than the experience itself, but it may help! Allie & Neil are the Disers we shared the cruise with
It is extremely cold by now and we bundle up in many layers. We catch a bus to Epcot simply because it comes along first and we plan to ride the monorail from Epcot to the Poly, which we do. It’s dark by the time we reach the resort and the torches are lit throughout the tropical gardens. What a wonderful atmosphere they create! We go to the wrong boat dock initially but soon locate Allie & Neil. Unfortunately their children aren’t feeling too special and because it is so cold Allie thought it was a good idea to leave them at home with her mum. A very wise decision, as it turned out!

There was no sign of the boat and we were slightly concerned as it was getting close to Wishes. There had been some sort of snafu but in the end they found us a boat and sent it over from Fort Wilderness. The upshot was that it was a Birthday Boat! It was festooned with balloons and complete with cake and drinks. Unfortunately they weren’t hot though and already we were all feeling extremely chilly! The boat refused to start for quite a few attempts and when it finally did we had to head straight to the middle of the lake in order to get a spot for Wishes. What an incredible view you get here! You really see the entire panorama of fireworks and at one point a firework goes off that draws the Evil Queen’s face! How on earth do they do that? We had not seen that in the park. Even better, one of the boats around us (clearly an upmarket vessel) had the music and narration piped in so we could hear everything. A wonderful experience.

We had a scream at the back of the boat; I laughed practically the entire time (particularly when Allie kept being attacked by the Birthday Balloons) but let me tell you it was absolutely freezing. I think Disney usually supply blankets for this but there were none on this boat (maybe this had something to do with the boat being a late entrant into the night’s activities?) but happily I had brought some from ASMo (ssssh, don’t tell anyone! We did put them back). We donated the blankets to the front end of the boat, as Allie, Neil and I were somewhat sheltered at the back. We had a nice tour around Seven Seas Lagoon with some information from the driver (though I got the impression he didn’t do it very often as Allie & I seemed to know stuff he didn’t). Problem was, it was simply absolutely freezing. We’d lost all feeling in our extremities! You probably think I’m jesting but really I’m not, it was extraordinarily cold. We wondered if Disney had ever had a hypothermia case brought against them ;)

As to the videoing, I am notoriously rubbish at this but I would struggle to keep the camera still due to the motion of the boat. I got the best ever Wishes video from Main Street Station (forgot to answer this in the last post, sorry!)

I've not done the Wishes cruise, but we did an Illuminations Cruise last August.

I thought it was wonderful - it is excellent not having to stake out a place in EPCOT hours before the show starts. I thought that the view from the boat was wonderful and it was great being able to have a relaxing trip back to the Yacht/Beach club afterwards and not battle with the crowds at EPCOT. We also ordered a cake, crisps and beverages to go on board. It was definitely one of the highlights from our trip.

Having said all this, I don't think I would feel the same way about a Wishes cruise. For me, one of the best bits of Wishes is being inside the Magic Kingdom with the wonderful atmosphere and castle. If I wanted to watch it from Bay Lake then I would sit on the Polynesian Beach or head over to the Grand Floridian/Contemporary Resort.

The difference is that the Illuminations Cruise actually takes you into the World Showcase Lagoon - right where everyone is watching from too. You get the wonderful atmosphere and a perfect view.

How can you possibly watch Wishes without the music piped in???
the synchronization with the sound track is what makes it so moving (at least to us)...

I thought the cruises are much more expensive than this....we did the illuminations cruise (on a 12 person boat i think) and it cost over $200 i thought...

DO it! It's an amazing experience - we did one on November 15 the day of our wedding and it was a perfect end to a perfect day.

There were 8 in our party so we filled the boat - but it was so worth the money - we had the basic pontoon mentioned by Miffy - got loads of free soda and chips. No music piped in but we could hear it from the MK anyway.

I paid for it as a surprise to the other 7 people including my new DH - and they all said it was an amazing surprise. We'd already watched Wishes from the tommorrow land bridge earlier in the holiday and they all said this was better. You could see the fireworks over the castle - as they're designed to be.

The downside we had was a naff driver - who stayed quiet the whole time. As I'd read on the Dis that some drivers are amazing and talk to you and tell stories and stuff... we didn't leave him a tip - but I had planned to - just didn't think he added anything to the experience - he didn't even say congratulations for our wedding... pretty obvious when we were all still in our finery and I had a massive frock on!

They're hard to get though so be prepared to call several days in a row. I missed out but a lovely DISer sorted it out for me as she's a travel agent. Obviously I needed one exact day - the odds are better if you can be flexible.

JMHO obvioulsy :)

I guess there are a number of different reasons when you might not have the music. First, the music boats may have sold out! Second, money may be an issue. Third, as you rightly say it is what makes it moving for you and your family and may not be so important for someone else.

well since the OP asked for opinons as to wether it's worth the money, my answer would be no, not if you're on the boat without the soundtrack piped in....the soundtrack is more than just music, there are words as well.....i would doubt you can make out what they're saying from on the lake.....it's hard to make it out when you're in the MK...

Sorry Beth, because you asked

I was offering possible reasons for this. It must have been a rhetorical question.

Joh - it looks like both Rosie and myself could hear the music etc fine despite not having a Music boat. I don't personally feel it detracted from my experience (we could hear narration etc just from a neighbouring boat) but I had seen Wishes from MK already that holiday so maybe I would have felt differently otherwise :)

I did one for my birthday just gone.

It was lovely. We didn't have the music piped in, I don't know why as our CM said that it would be.

I would tape Wishes from dry land, as it gets a bit choppy out there with all the other boats!
Do it:)

I haven't done it for wishes, but we did it when it was Fantasy in the sky and it was a wonderful trip. I plan to do it next time, hopefully with the music.

Thanks everyone, for your replies :) Karen, I got the price from the UOG for 2006 so, obviously, that's out of date already :confused3 If it costs that much, somehow I don't think DH will agree to it, even if we could find someone to share with, especially if you don't get the music piped in. I agree with disneyholic family, in as much as the music makes it for us so I wouldn't want to watch the fireworks if I couldn't hear the music.

Maybe the Illuminations Cruise would be better for us?

We did the wishes cruise back in Oct 05 and it was one of the highlights to our holiday. It has gone up in price we paid $249, the boat goes at 8.30pm but we got there early at 8pm and the driver said we could leave early so we set off at 8pm went all round the lake had a good look at all the hotels then back to MK to watch the fireworks we had a boat that piped in the music and it we great for us well worth the money. After wishes the driver raced round to the Poly to watch the water pagaent. We tipped the driver $50 because he was very good & lots of info.

This is almost worth considering. There are only seven of us so I would have to fork out about £200 for the whole boat. As a DVC member is that just booking through MS?

Joh, I was going to offer to share but think there are too many of us then noticed obviously you will be in WDW a month before us. I am sure we will meet up some time in the future.

It may be the illuminations cruise would be better for us and if this is bigger would anyone going in October 2006 be interested in sharing?

Hi Susan,

I imagine you can book through MS??? - personally I have always rung and done it myself as soon as lines open due to the popularity of the cruises. I worried that if I called MS by the time they were open and got them to do it for me, the cruises might have already sold out. This may just have been me being over cautious though :)

Karen

Karen

You are right. MS do not book the cruises (and there are no DVC discounts)

They no longer have the 12 people boats. Only 8 people for $200 or 10 people for $250. I was looking forward to sharing with Wilma Bride but cannot now. (have sent a pm Joh)

I will need to consider if worth it for seven of us for me book as a surprise for everyone. I have a while to decide (or save up!)

hiya

we did both the wishes cruise and the illuminations cruise on our last trip in december 05, we had the music piped in too, they were both brilliant and we will do them again for sure!!!!! we had loads of blankets on board as it was cold, plus we had food and drink.

we shared our cruise with other disers too, it was great to meet other disers.

We did the Wishes cruise with another DIS family and it was definitely worth it -- music was included and it was truly magical. For me, crowds take away some of the fun, so being out on the water and seeing and hearing everything was magical. It was warm weather though, so pleasant!

The downside we had was a naff driver - who stayed quiet the whole time. As I'd read on the Dis that some drivers are amazing and talk to you and tell stories and stuff.

This made me laugh because I cherish drivers who stay quiet and don't yap the whole time -- I'm on vacation to enjoy family and friends, not the guy driving the boat/bus. I feel different if it's a tour-type situation, but I didn't go into the cruise expecting a tour --- just a slow relaxing dreamy evening, which we got. Seems like no matter what they do, one of us would have been dissatisfied!

We didn't see the water parade --- was wishing we had, but still felt we got our money's worth, especially since we were sharing.
