It seems that I have read on the Bios thread and elsewhere that there are a lot of WISHers who are turning 40 this year. Well, I am too! I am a newbie to WISH and to running. I thought I would see how many of us are going to be celebrating this year.
In honor of my birthday, I convinced my husband to let me and my daughter (9) go to Disney and run the 5K by ourselves, a GIRLS ONLY trip. We had a marvelous time and met A LOT of you folks. You were all so welcoming to me and my daughter at the Pop meet. I just feel so bad that I didn't "know" y'all from the boards before we came.
I want a do over!
Here's my story, hope it doesn't bore you
:
I have only been running since August of last year. I ran my first 5K two weeks after starting my Couch to 5K running plan.
I ran with a really good friend of mine from church. I finished my first 5K in 37:42. I ran 80% of the way. Now listen, I have had natural childbirth, and that race was so much HARDER!
Fast forward to October, I run my second 5K with dd (training for Jan.). We did it in 47:30. Not bad, just need to shave off a couple of minutes. Well, that night, due to a freak accident, I injured my knee. My son went to a Halloween party, and I ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. His hockey coach was horsing around with his nephew, and they both ended up tumbling on top of me, and landing on my knee!
Now their combined weight is probably 350-400 lbs. Well, that sidelined me for quite a while. Went to the Ortho. dr. and he said everything was fine, just the beginning of some arthritis in that knee. He gave me some stretches to do, and then told me I could run in Disney. We ended up walking most of the 5K because dd was feeling sick to her stomach, and was saying she was gonna puke all the way around the parking lot of the 5K.
Sorry to all of those of you that were behind us and had to pass us.
I decided we just needed to hold hands and enjoy our time together. If we got swept, then so be it! Well, we didn't get swept, and we had a marvelous time. Here is our pic from the ASI website:http://www.asiorders.com/view_user_photo.asp?EVENTID=25143&ID=45610873&FROM=photos&BIB=2883

We couldn't have done it without all of your support. You still continue to make me a better and healthier person. I plan to embrace this new decade of my life, and pray for many more to come! Please come say HI, and tell me what your plans are for this year. Remember you aren't turning 40 alone, there are several of us doing it together!
