I am so very excited for you! What a wonderful gift that is! Holly is right - sounds like she is one lucky little girl to join your family. Wishing you and all the out wish trippers a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! :)

So, we made it back home safe and sound!!! What a wonderful trip we had. There is so many exciting stories and information to share and I can't wait to get started.

We are all still pretty tierd and I just started with our laundry!! Boy can we sure create a lot of laundry!!!!!! Everyone is unpacking there things and finding a special place for them. I can't believe how much stuff we got while we were in Florida. Luckily, they gave you a free duffel bag to carry things home in.

The weather was incredible the whole week, and the parks and attention to the wish child was amazing!! I don't think I could have asked for a better vacation. Everything was just so magical and it now all holds a special place in our hearts.

I'll definitely be starting my TR in the next few days. I can't figure out how to put pictures on but, I'm working on that as well.

I'm also trying to catch up on everyone's Trip reports as well. Along with this board as it seems the last time I signed on the there has been 4 pages created!!!!

You'll here back from me soon. I'm working on my TR as I speak so feel free to hop on over there to read all about our wish trip to Disney WORLD!!!

Sounds Wonderfull!!

Quick update on Braeton. Dr.s office called today. Complete blood work will be done on Braeton tommorrow. He will have a CT scan after Thanksgiving. I never said one more word about it. I believe God was just answering my prayers. I feel a whole lot better now! At least we can start rulling some things out instead of JUST guessing!
If I don't make it back between now and then..............

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!

Okay all you wish trippers, I need your help. I have read your stories and have been so inspired by all of you I figure you would be the people to ask! I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and four healthy children. When we hear of families in need, we both tend to jump in and help out when we can. Our neighbor works at a local elementary school and she told us about a family with a son who has special needs. He is losing his eyesight and wants to experience the Disney magic before his vision is all gone. As she put it, we want to put all of the wonderful sights in his memory bank so he can "look" back on it. I'm not sure if they qualify or have even tried for a WISH trip, but we are stepping in and trying to put something together for them. We have covered the room and flights and the community is being canvassed for other donations to help them out with tickets and dining, etc. My question to you all is that enough? Do we need to make a special request with Disney for extra help for them? What do I need to do from here on out? We love Disneyworld and just so want to help out this little guy and his family to build some lifelong memories and we want to make sure we do it "right." Can you all help me out here? Thank you all in advance. You are an amazing group of people who have touched lives of lurkers (at least this one!) and I just know if there are people out there to ask, you are it! :flower3:

I probably am not going to be the best person for advice since our wish trip isn't until January but I did want to commend you on your commitment to this family and your community. I do know that when the family goes to the park they will be able to get a guest assitance card (GAC) that will provide them with any "extra" assitance they may need to enjoy the park. If the family has never been then maybe a guide book would be helpful as well. We love reading our guidebooks since we don't have a lot of planning to do, it really helps build the excitement.

I am sorry to hear about the vision loss of this boy. My oldest son was diagnosed with a rare eye disease when he was 5. He has loss the majority of vision in one eye but we are very fortunate because his vision in the other eye is excellent and he has been able to compensate very well. We had a lot of time to be concerned about complete vision loss and it brought great concern to our family. My prayers for this family and I do hope they are able to have a wonderful trip and ever lasting memories!!

If you come to the disABILITIES Board, you will find a section about GACs (Guest Assistance Cards) in the disABILITIES FAQs thread stuck near the top of the board.
One thing I'd recommend as a keepsake for him will be the CDs of WDW music they sell in the parks and at DTD. They will help bring back memories and since they are audio, other people enjoying them will be getting the same experience as he is,

to a great trip

The other thing you can do is refer them to this site. There is so much logistical info that helps famlies with special needs here on all these threads. I know that for me it is very important to be well informed before we travel. It sets your mind at ease. I am sure they will find it helpful to be well informed before they get there. TGM can give them a lot of logistical info and if you sign up through the disboards you get a $3.00 discount. Allears.net has a link specifically for those with visual impairments...

Hope this helps a little...

Okay guys, I'm officially panicking. Alize has a chest cold and ear infection. DH just got lost in Pittsburgh, we haven't got anything from MAW, our bank says they have to hold the check 3-5 business days and we leave early Friday morning. I called the closest office 2 weeks ago (you'll get your pack 2 weeks before you leave), then last Tues (I'm overnighting the packet to your vounteers today), called volunteer number 1 tonight (volunteer number 2 has the packet) and volunteer number 2 (no answer, left a message).  :headache: Tell me it's going to be okay. Karen

I haven't been on our wish trip yet but I am sure it will be OK. I think that has been the only thing that is hard about the trip - the waiting for details, packets, etc. Just wanted to say that I would be nervous too! I sure hope you get everything you need soon and have a wonderful time!:goodvibes

 Oh, I'm sorry that this is so stressful when it should just be fun! I do hope your hear from volunteer #2 very soon... Also what a big bummer that Alize is sick... I hope he is better by the end of the week. I was concerned when we picked Jan. that we would really be gambling on good health. We have had an unusually healthy run in our house and I am crossing fingers and toes that it continues. Hugs to you guys and I am positive it will all work out but I know you don't need the stress.

I understand the panic. We recieved our money, tickets , well everything just moments before we stepped on the plane. We had NO $$ on us and then tghey gave us all our expense $$ in CASH. I was a little worried about carrying that much cash. It all worked out and we had a FANTASTIC time. Braeton got sick the night before we flew out and stayed sick the whole trip, but somehow he still did very good and we still had the time of our lives. He actually seemed to get better when we would go into the parks!:confused3
I will be sending lots of prayers up for you. How is DH? Did he find his way O.K.??? Can you deposit the check and use your debit card??? If you get it Mon. Then you should be able to use the Money Fri. It is going to work out! Somehow. Please keep us posted! Hopefully Vol#2 is just gone for Thanksgiving and will be back tomorrow!!!

I'm sure it will be ok. *hugs* to you. I know that stress! MAW will help you get through this. It will work out.

In other news, Michael may have an Ileus. We are hoping its just constipation but we shall see. Poor kid is sooooo distended. We have Colace. We have a supository. And he's asleep. I hope this gets better soon otherwise we'll be heading out to St.Louis tomorrow. *sigh*

Oh Wendy!! I hope he's just constipated!!! Let us know!!!

Thanks LeeLee and Karen!
Karen, no kidding right. I will never forget the "peepee" dance we would do when Michael would pee when he was so septic and his kidneys were failing.

So I talked to his plastic surgeon and we believe he does have an ileus but we will try and treat him at home as he pooped some this morning and felt better. We're giving it another 24 hours. But geez, trying to get a five year old to take colace capsules or take a supsitory is just about impossible in my book. Grrrr! I did get a "are you a nurse?" from the doctor when we were talking ileus' though. LOL Nope, doc, just have dealt with low motility for years and a six week ileus last year. What can I say? I stay informed!

Karen, you're leaving soon!! Friday, right? I'm soooooo excited for you!! I hope Alize feels better!

GirlieGirl, sorry I have touched on your post earlier. I would buy her the book "The Open Mouse" I believe its now called from the company that does the "Passporter" series. I haven't seen the newest edition but they one from a few years back was awesome! Highly recommend it to anyone going with any special needs!

I'm totally nauseated now. I finally got through to volunteer number 2's husband. Her dad had a stroke and she's out of state. The pack was passed off to a volunteer I never heard of. Number 2's husband took pity on me and called volunteer number 3. She hasn't called me and in no way can come tomorrow. He's taking it on himself to pick the pack up and bring it here but can't come until after 5p tomorrow. I think I'll cry then throw up and then maybe cry some more. Pray for number 2's father and give thanks to her husband. Me, I'll survive. Karen
