Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

I can so relate! i had been happily planning all these wonderful things for the trip and have been so excited, as are the kids. Then, one day last week, I was getting pics together to email to the person at Coral Reef for the personalized menus and thinking about our schedule and it just came out of the blue and I started thinking about why we are going on this great trip. I had not really allowed myself to think about it before that I guess. But, I was a wreck the rest of the day+. Usually, I just keep going thinking he is going to prove them wrong again and praying for that miracle. That day I happened to be home by myself for the first time in a long time, because my son has not been able to go to school unless I go until we had a trained nurse. Now he is going 2 days a week without me, and that was the first day.

:grouphug: to everyone! And thanks Karla for bringing this up. I thought I was just weird to feel that way. No more sad thoughts. We are going to have an awesome trip:banana:
Our kids are going to do great, after all, they have us...AND MICKEY!!:goodvibes ;)

Oh, btw, the point about being home by myself wasn't that I don't want to be home alone, but that when you are with kids you just keep going and are happy. Didn't want people to think I was on the wimpy side.:rotfl:

palpluto- I knew exactally what you ment because I feel the same way. I don't have time to think or at least don't let myself think about those dark feelings often but it is when I am alone or things are real quite that my mind will start to wonder off in that direction. Now I have Mickey to wonder off to :thumbsup2

We are actually at a really good place with my son's health. In fact the best that he has ever been since birth but I still have lot's of concerns that I don't have with my other kids (I have plenty with them too but they are different). So I had a tinge of guilt that my son was too healthy to be taking this trip and we actually postponed it until I decided that we wouldn't be offered this chance if he didn't deserve it. I know others have felt that way too. I have lots of other thoughts and emotions on it as well but now I just feel pure joy and excitement!

Camster, thanks for sharing your story. I am amazed by the stories, the kids, the parents, the siblings, everything. I am also inspired by the positive attitudes and strength that I see time and time again. I know we all do what we have to do, but there is a real light that shines through all these families I read about (and that I've met along the way in our personal journey).

I can also relate to those of you that have been hit every now and then with the reason for your trips and feeling a bit overwhelmed or down about it. I have a tendency to push thoughts aside and just move ahead, but there is fear and worry and just 'I cannot even believe what my son has been through' always on the surface. I am so happy for all of you that you have these trips to look forward to! The kids deserve all the fun and magic in such a big way, and so do you!

Off to read more wish trip reports! I'm totally hooked!

Kirsten, by your signature I see that you are leaving tomorrow! If I got that right, have an amazing and fabulous trip!!!!!!!

Kirsten have a Magical Trip!!

I am also, pretty regularly, struck with the reason for our trip. I know that I struggle with going about my/our life. I always say "I'll get to that after Michael's next surgery". Don't mind me, I'm in a dark place today.

In other news, there is no news. Been a quiet week, relatively, here. LOL I'm working on all my Christmas shopping.

Hey Kirsten, don't forget to shop for Christmas while you're out there!

Can you believe its almost the end of the month!?!

Have lots of un and REPORT here first when you get back!!!!!:goodvibes

Hi to al. I haven't been able to reallly get on for more than a min. this week and WOW I don't know if I can get cauht up, but I will skim.
Quick update on us.
Braeton is now healing nicely after a few scares. He's feeling his Wheaties this morning and actually walked down the Hall this morning with his arms open going MOM MY to give me my morning hug. This rarely happens in the morning as usually all he can do is crawl untill he gets to feeling a bit more awake. And after surgery It is Usually months before he get his balance back. He is still wobbly, but Hey This had us feeling pretty good!!! I can't wait to tell DH when he gets back from Dialysis!! Speaking of DH He had to have a veinmapping yesterday and after being told by several specialists including this SAME Doc, that he only had one vein deep in his right arem that would be good enough for a fistula, but they would have to relocate it higher up in the arm and then do the fistula (This would take @6months to heal and he would not qualify for a transplant during this healing process!!!) He was told by the technician that she saw sevearal good veins in BOTH arms!!! So hopefully if he does have to have this it can be in his left arm so he can still draw/paint. He's so worried about his arm. He already has a graph in his left arm that they were never able to access!!
Anyway we will just wait to see!
SO These ARE the days of our lives!!!;)

Wendy I'm sending you  right now. I think we all have these feelings at times and that is why I am so glad you went ahead started this thread. :cloud9: We can see that we aren't so "unnormal or strange" with our feelings or alone. I look at this thread and think WOW!!!! I think we are the best support group ever!!!
Well there goes the kiddos. I guess this is going to be one of "those" mornings !!

Kirsten- Have a wonderful trip! I am sure it will be magical. I'll be thinking about you guys.

This planning thing is so much fun. My son said yesterday, "I'm not sure I can wait til December" :yay:

I have a question. Are there any TR, ect. about wish trips for older kids? We are in the wish-granting process for a 15 year-old, and all the info we can find is for little kids (it seems as if teens don't get wishes as often...?).

Didn't want people to think I was on the wimpy side.:rotfl:

Grandma Linda here - I just HAVE to comment on that.

Mom's and dads of these precious little ones (and big ones) with physical, mental or emotional challenges are SO far from being wimps - You are heros every day of your lives! EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIVES, you ride into battle for your precious children.

But being a hero doesn't mean you are never afraid, never sad, never blue, never annoyed, never scared, never angry. Being a hero means you're all those things, at times, but you do what needs to be done anyway.

Anyone who has ever walked even ten feet in your shoes totally understands. The ones who don't - don't matter. That's the old lady's perspective.

:grouphug:

RWROCKSME - we are in the planning stages for my son's wish trip - he's 13. He wants to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel and go during ESPN weekend. He's a big sports fan and likes Hard Rock coolness and all the memorabilia. We still haven't heard if it's been approved - it's been a little over a month since we told her the idea and I'm getting a little nervous that it won't be approved (his first 3 ideas were no-go's), but we'll see! Does your 15 year old have a specific wish or just overall Orlando?

So glad to see another parent of an older child on here ;) I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you, that you are approved. :wizard:

That is exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks for asking. My son is 12 and all of the reports I can find are for smaller kids including GKTW information. Let me know if you find anything :thumbsup2

She actually has not decided on her wish yet...we are in the very early stages and this is just one of her ideas. If she was to do this, she says, her main thing would be to take her two "BFFs" as she calls them (teenagers...LOL!). We've been to Disney many times before, but this would be her "dream" trip, beyond our means...she's very big into planning, and is looking for as much information as she can get to make an informed decision...

BTW, Patti, what were your DS's first 3 ideas? It may be nice to know what they can't do, so she can make a good wish.

I have been frantically searching these pages for TR about older children as well- Sadly I haven't found one yet either. But there seems to be a lot of Wish families going with older children in the weeks to come so hopefully they can bring back some information for the rest of us about things that where good to do, see or eat.

Although, I have found everyone's TR's have been wonderful and have answered many of my questions so THANKS to all those people who have took the time to do them. I'm hoping to do a TR when we get back from disney. Although I haven't figured out how to start a thread...mmm maybe one of these days?

Thanks to everyone who posted information. This helps out a lot!!!!!

I feel much better knowing that people didn't get their packages till just before the trip. I think I just might be able to breathe a sigh of relief for the moment

Momof2wCF: My DD is 16years old. So I would love to hear about all the things your DS liked at GKTW and also at any of the theme parks. I hear there is so much to do and I know we won't get it all done. But hopefully we can all pick out some stuff we really want to see and start with that first.

From reading these posts I've heard about something called a GACs. I was curious to what that was? And does GKTW supply it? Sorry if these questions have already been answered!

Since we land on a Sunday in the late afternoon. We have decided that this day will just be for looking around the village, going to orientation and doing any activites at the village that night. We may also head over to Wal-Mart to pick up any essentials that we will need for the week. Does anyone know if the Wal-Mart near GKTW is open 24hours?

Another shopping related question hahaha!!! My DD LOVES to shop.. Does anyone know of any good shopping stores down in Florida. See where we live we only have one mall and a few stores like a wal-mart and a zellers. So we would love to spend some time shopping and browsing.

Also, one last question before I leave. Has anyone ever heard of a Dole Whip? If so could you please explain to me what this is? So many people have told me we have to try it. Yet I'm not quite sure where to get this or what it is.

Thanks everyone!! Sorry for all the questions!!!!:wizard:
