Greetings. As many of my fellow WISHers know, I'm a fourth year medical student that is 'owned' by the US Army. The military match results were released at 0600 this morning and I was selected to do a Pediatrics residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. I will be relocating in June right after graduation.

So I'm suggesting some alternate WISH events since 2008 will be my last WDW Marathon(Goofy) for a while. There are 5 marathons on the Islands with Honolulu in Dec being the biggest. Maui in Sept has what looks to be an incredible course. There are also 2 on the Big Island and another on Maui. There's also tons of triathlons, bike rides, open water swims, and other events. Maybe I'll even post the occasional update on Disney Hawaii's construction:)

Hi Lynne,

Congratulations!

I was just thinking about my goals for the next few years. I plan to go back teaching full time as DS is going into middle school next year. I want to be in the high school system when I kids hit those years. I know I couldn't dedicate the time to train for a marathon while working full time and my knee is still giving me trouble which I believe is chronic. So I may plan one last race after Disney and then move into tris.

So, yes, that is a destination race I would definitely go for!

Lynne, congratulations on getting the assignment! You are making your way through it seems just as planned. Best WISHes there. I think it is a fantastic idea for a WISH Team meet!

Wow, now if you gotta go somewhere, that sounds like your kind of place -- home of the Ironman World Championships!

I've always wanted to do the Maui marathon, but I'm afraid it'll have to wait until my kids are unbelievably rich and famous and fly old Mom out there. :rotfl2:

Congratulations on your assignment Lynne! I've dreamed of going to Hawaii, and would love to run one of the marathons someday. It would take a lot of pennies though... maybe I should start saving. I should say too that the Honolulu Marathon is very walker friendly and keeps the finish line open until the last person crosses.

Congrats Lynne:cheer2: !! I am already booked to be in Hawaii from 12/20/08-1/3/09 and I am looking for race opportunities. Perhaps I could swap weeks and make Honolulu which is 12/13 if memory serves me correctly.
Please, please keep me updated:hug: . My kids are going also so we want to make the most out of the trip because the flight is going to be brutal:lmao: .
We'll talk at WDW for sure:cheer2:

Sara- If you run Honolulu in 2008, I may have to change my Fall marathon plans to run it too. I turn 40 in Dec 08, and this would sure be a cool b-day present to myself. Hmmmmm, I have a bunch of Delta airmiles - maybe I could swing a flight.

You guys:grouphug: I don't want to be the reason for a Philly bailout but I am definitely in HI from 12/20-12/27. DH and I decided that since we are flying all that way there we should stay for 2 weeks. Lynne and I will catch up at WDW and see if it's doable.

If you're still there, we're planning on doing the Honolulu Marathon in 2009. It will also be our 25th anniversary trip.

I can't afford to do this two years in a row - so I'm still planning to be at Philly in November 2008.

Hey Lynne - all I'm going to say is Hawaii is about 11 hours nearer than WDW is for me, so see you in Honolulu ASAP!!!! And well done. Helen
