Thanks for the info Kat. I have no clue if I'll even get to do anything Sat AM or not since we'll be meeting with family and then tailgating and we don't even know yet what time the game is going to be (since it's televised and they haven't decided yet - I hate that!) I'm really hoping for an 11 or 12 o'clock game so we can head back home afterward. With my luck, it'll be a 7pm game and I'll have to figure out how to manage the kids (mostly the 2 year old!) during a late game. *sigh*

Anyway, thanks!

I'm in!

I did 12 miles this morning with my Galloway training group. We were only supposed to do 10, but another girl and I are going to miss the scheduled 12 next week and both of us felt great after 10, so we went back out for the other 2.

It was an awesome run... it's finally almost reasonable outside (about 68 when we started, 73 at the end), and not as humid. We did a local park with wide packed sand trails. Hilly but the sand was much nicer than concrete/asphalt.

I taped and compression sleeved my problem shin, and so far so good! Those compression sleeves are such a lifesaver.

I have got to get some taping education! Major ITB & knee issues today during my 11.33 (had set out to do 12---ugh!).

Just checking in and saying hi to everyone!!! Sorry I have gone MIA lately, but I am here, just lurking and getting prepared to leave next Monday (sept 27th) for our vaca and the wine and dine half!! :goodvibes I am beyond excited and nervous all at the same time!

Nice 18 mile run today. Met some cool people on the trail (Capital Crescent Trail). Averaged just under 7:30's so I'm REALLY happy about that. It started off as me just wanting to get like 10-12 miles in cause I wasnt feeling too hot the night before, but then I just kept going. Love those kind of runs.

Just ran 5.5 miles... my first 10K is next weekend!:yay:

Hey everyone, so I'm not gonna start up a new thread, we can edit the title and the main post on this thread quite easily. I'm going to set up a Survey Monkey site where people can vote on the name.

I posted a list of Bios on the main page by just grabbing what you said about yourself in the first post. Obviously they're a first attempt, and anything you want changed, just PM me and I'll take care of it. I did it manually this time, so i basically clicked next and went through the list, if I missed you or your bio let me know.

Thankfully work should be slowing down for a little bit now that we just got this release in. So I should be back around :).

Still to come: the event calendar, fun statistics about the group (number of posts, gender, age breakdown, most uses of the word disney, stuff like that - obviously I'm gonna write a small datamining program to do that kind of stuff).

Run this morning was 6 miles. Beautiful 55-60 degrees outside. Tomorrow gonna do something around 15-16 miles.

Just let us know where to find it and we'll all make the jump.

Like our little bio's and thanks for taking the time....!

My 1/2 is fast approaching...I did a 9.1 walk on Friday at a 13 min a mile pace...I actually felt great and didnt hurt Saturday...just a lot of stretching and working on m IT Band with a rolling pin!
I have a personal trainer, cause I had NO idea what an IT Band was..of fascia rubbing...DH loved hearing that one when I came home from meeting Bruce the Trainer the first time! LOL
I did order a WISH notebook to keep track of all my training and a WISH tote bag...so I will look "official" in 10 days! LOL
Hoping to meet others at the AKL meet on Friday who is a Wine and DIner!
I hope I do well cause I would love to do the Princess...and I am thinking abt local 5K's in Nov and Dec.

Matt, I am in awe! Not only the distance, but the time. Love the update, thanks for that!!!

So now I think I'm officially freaking out. I tried to do my 18 yesterday, but I couldn't. Got 16 in, but not 18. My race is in 3 1/2 weeks, and I still haven't gone further than that stupid 16. This weekend is my last long run before taper starts, so I don't really have a choice but to go the 20, even if it means crawling on my hands and knees. Wouldn't that be a sight on a Sunday morning? The only thing I can think of is that even though the 2nd half won't be strong, maybe my 1st half will be strong enough to carry me timewise so I have some leeway on the back end. The one good thing from yesterday was that I had enough water still in my belt I wouldn't have run out if I had gone further. Not a problem race day, but training it is. I'll just have to keep those fireman and Tiffany necklace in the front of my mind the whole time.

This week is kind of light until Sunday, 4 tomorrow, hills Wednesday, and then 9-10 on Thursday.

Dont fret too much over the 2 miles. Have you been eating/drinking well on the run? Really after the first we'll say 10 miles you're hydration and nutrition really start to play a role. Drink before you feel thirsty, and try to consume some kind of sugar (Gel, Goo, Shot Bloks, Jelly Beans) say every half hour or so. Maybe you want to swap some of that water with gatorade? Also do you have a running buddy you can do it with?

Leaving Monday for a week of vacation at WDW and then running the Wine and Dine half marathon on Oct 2nd!!! I have probably told everyone in the world this 5,000 times, but I am SO excited!!! I need lots of luck and hopefully some good weather

Eating/drinking- I think so, I'm didn't feeling thirsty or anything during the run. Yesterday was actually the first time I've gone that far with left over water/powerade. Usually I run out. I've used goo on the long runs. Yesterday was only 1/2 a pouch maybe that was the problem. I have some shot blocks from the goody bag at DL, maybe I'll try those instead this Sunday. Unfortunately no running buddy. My friends/family who do run just do it for fun and the thought of running even 10 miles would make them laugh. I will Nov/Dec with my dad doing his training as well so that might be good 1 or 2 a month. Thanks for the tips!

I am so jealous! I wish I could go now, but have to wait 3 more months. I'm the same way with telling everyone. By the time my trip to DL usually rolls around everyone can tell me my itinerary just as good as I can. I can only imagine how bad it'll be in January w/ the first big trip to WDW. :cheer2: I think you'll do great race night. :cheer2: You'll have to come back and tell all the details of the race. I've never done a night race before and am really curious how that works, bodywise- being up all day and everything.

Yea, the half pouch could've been it. According to marathon pacing bands you want to take it every 5-6 miles. BUT, in my opinion thats a little high, but thats prob just me. For 18 miles I would've had food at least twice on the run.

What caused you to stop? Was it just fatigue? Some nagging injury? Mental?

Also depending on your pace, 18 miles might be flirting with "the WALL". How long did it take you?

At the time I thought it was fatigue. However in retrospect, I think a bigger part of it was mental. I was sore on Monday, but not as sore as I have been after 1/2 races and I was still very mobile. And yesterday, I had no problems on my run. So I;m guessing based on that, I probably could have gone farther than I did or at least pushed it a little harder than I did. Sunday though, based on what you said I will make a conscious effort to do the whole pack of goo and shot blocks. So hopefully that will do the trick and Sunday's 20 will be a whole lot better.

Thanks for the tips!!

Alright folks.. Florida is cooling off quickly, just in time for everyone coming down for wine and dine! Got in 4 miles yesterday, and it was a breezy 84 degrees just before sunset. That means temps in the 70s after dark! :yay: Before that I had an unexpected 6 days off from running... Came home from work each day and just crashed.. with work clothes still on and all. Anyone else work 12+ hour shifts and manage to still run those days? Cause I'd love to know your secret!

Hey all! Sounds like you all are doing fabulous in your training and in your races- Congrats. I am working slowly but surely- just hoping by the Princess in Feb. that my pace will be up to par. I am currently using the Galloway method I guess for just completing the marathon. I am running for 1 minute and walking for 3 minutes. I am up to about 4 miles but feel like I could go forever... except for my left knee. I have already had to see the orthopedic dr. once since I have started and am worried if I push too hard I could make things worse but if I don't I won't make it up to speed by race day. Anyone with any experience/advice??? Thanks all!:flower3:

I came into running with an old knee injury, and did Galloway for a while with good success. My advice.. is to take your doctor's advice! Progress will come in time, but only if you stay healthy.. There is always another race, or another year if thats what it takes to get up to speed.. But even taking longer to get there is better than pushing too hard and being in pain the whole time, imho.. Congrats on having this goal and making it happen! :goodvibes

Thanks for updating that first post Matt. I know that was a lot of work!

I did manage to get my 8 miles in this morning. It took me 2 hours, so I'm feeling a little better about avoiding sweepers. My half marathon in 36 days (!!!!!) has the same 3.5 hour time limit that the Disney races do. I don't know how they handle anyone taking longer though. They didn't say anything about sweepers, just mentioned the time limit. I guess they have to reopen the roads at that point. Maybe they don't give Finisher's Medals to those taking longer? I have no clue. I guess I'll find out. (Or, more accurately, I hope I DON'T find out, right? ).

Some places just make you move to the sidewalk so they can open the roads. With your training pace plus some race day excitement, you'll be set! :cheer2: Although I was worried about sweepers before I started, I've had a much better time on races with a time limit. There is much more enthusiasm at the back of the pack when everyone knows they have that limit as a goal!

So now I think I'm officially freaking out. I tried to do my 18 yesterday, but I couldn't. Got 16 in, but not 18. My race is in 3 1/2 weeks, and I still haven't gone further than that stupid 16. I've done my halfs with never more than 7.5 mile long run in training.. And with that logic I'm trying to convince my runnerbuddy that we can do a full marathon with 15 mile long run :lmao: I'd guess you have loftier goals than I did, but good luck and don't get psyched out with the magic 20 mile mark.

Thanks Lullabee for responding! Had my follow-up today with the ortho dr. and since the discomfort hasn't gone away with orthotics, a brace, icing, and anti-inflammatories... they want an MRI. He started throwing around words like arthroscopy and outpatient surgery and I am pretty freaked out. I am not even in that much pain! He "suspects something called plica syndrome and says that it is is absolutely necessary to be removed if it is there. After coming home and researching it on the net, though, I feel even worse. Most people say they are worse afterwards and some sites are not even sure that this surgery is necessary. Has anyone ever had this procedure done? Yikes. All I want to do is run...

I love the bio's on the first page, thanks! I have to say when I read about all these long runs people training for the full are doing, I feel like such a slug with my running. I was supposed to run today but when I woke up this am I was so exhausted so I just took the day off. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I can get my 3mi in. I feel like I'm getting to the real stuff in my training program now. This Sunday's run will be 4mi and then it goes up every Sunday after that. I've run up to 4 so far but that's it so I'm nervous and excited to get past that stage.

honeybrook 99 - so sorry to hear about your knee. My knees have been bothering me a little so I got superfeet inserts and already noticed a difference. Having bad knees really blows, I've always had bad knees. Good luck, I'm sending good wishes that it all works out for you and you recover quickly.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy!
Carmel

Sorry about your knee! Have you gotten a second opinion yet? Hopefully the MRI will show that it's not plica syndrome.

Carmel- I saw you are in MA, where are you at? My sister lives in Boston, well technically Allston, but is on the skirts of Boston.

So this weekend is the big 2-0. I am taking Matt's advise about more food/goo and will have it in my head that I can get through the 20. Don't know if I'll be able to walk Sunday after, but I'll come back and let everyone know how it went. A lot scared and a little excited to push myself to go that far. A little sadistic I know, but that's a big part of why I like running, to be ble to see what I can do!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and good weather!! Heat wave here, mid 90s through Monday or Tuesday. :headache: I hate the heat. Oh well, at least fall is here!

Shannon- :cheer2: Good luck next weekend at the Wine and Dine!! And have a great vacation, hopefully a nice, cool, nonrainy night for your run!!! :cheer2:

Kim - Good luck on the 20. You got this. Take it easy, make sure that when you get to 10 you're ready for another 10.

Princessfionasmom - remember, for every one of us thats doing a marathon this year there was a new runner at one point watching the track in highschool, or seeing others run by in a 5k thinking thats an impossible task. I remember volunteering at a 10k as a younger kid being like these people are crazy. Its a gradual thing, but remember where you were a few months ago, could you talk about a 4 mile Sunday run a few months ago? Just wait till next year, seriously set yourself an email reminder at work, and be like 1 year ago I ran more 4 miles for the first time today for next weeks run. Also don't get me wrong, I have those mornings too, where 2 miles in I'm done and heading home.

Heres to hoping for some cooler weather tomorrow morning.
