Now, you get to join me in taper madness. I hurt my ankle and have an added, forced 2 weeks of tapering. I'm going INSANE!!!!!!!!

I got 2 miles of walking inclines on the TM today and it was everything I could do to not push that 8 mph button.

Hey everyone, recovering from the cold I caught. Did 5 today. Wow it was cold and windy here in NY. Here's to hoping I'm still in the shape for Disney after having to take a week and change off.

How was everyones holidays?

Snowy, here! We got almost 7" of snow over night, and this was the first time this area in NC saw snow for Christmas in 63 years.

I am hoping to get clearance to start running again this week, after a 6 week break due to a stress fracture in my left shin. I see the sports med doc on Tuesday.

Hope everyone had a great holiday!

Btw, do we have a name? I am halfway through season 3 of Dr Who so Wish Team Who is okay too.

I wish we had gotten snow. I kept seeing little flakes, but nothing ever really developed.

Kat: Good luck with the doctor. I see mine at 8 am tomorrow and am hoping he'll let me run a little bit before Goofy.

Matt: I'm sure you'll be just fine. You have a really good base and it's only a week off. :thumbsup2

I have been trying really hard to just walk and not run. It's so hard though. I'll find out tomorrow. I don't feel like I'll be able to get my PR in the half now. I have only run 3 times in 3 weeks. But, as long as I can do the whole Goofy challenge, I don't really care how fast I do it anymore.
We had a good Christmas. I got the Disney purse I had been dreaming about. :lovestruc We got a lot of Disney gift cards, so we'll be set when we arrive in 10 days.

:headache::headache::headache: Aaahhhh!!! I attempted to go for my long run on X-mas Eve, but had to turn around about 1/3 of a mile out, b/c I felt a strain deep in my glutes. So I went to the gym and did cardio instead. Felt a slight tug throughout the rest of the day, so I took the weekend off as a precaution. I just got back from a 3 miler and it is killing me!! I couldn't even run the whole thing and if I would step up a curb, I could feel it. I am now officially in freak out mode. B/c it's deep in my glute, there's no real stretch and I can't massage it out. I don't know what to do. Hopefully over the next couple of days it'll loosen up.

On a happier note, I did the early check in this morning, so at the very least, the vacation part is going well. :mickeyjum

Hope everyone had a great X-mas and a great New Year's!!

Kim: This sounds a lot like what I have been dealing with. Mine, unfortunately, has lasted for months now. Even when I took 3 weeks off of running because of my ankle, it was still hurting, although not as bad. I have now learned to just live with it. I REALLY hope yours is something different. We're getting so close. You may want to just take the next week and a half off and rest it. I hope it feels better soon!

Hi everyone! :wave2: I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We did over here.
I swear, this is my first time training for a 1/2 marathon and I can tell you that it STINKS training during the holidays! I am no where near as ready and I would like to be. I know my next 1/2 in the fall I will be better trained for. I ran my 9 last weekend and will get in 10 this weekend, but that is only with running at most 2X during the week. Its SO hard with 2 little ones and all the activities with school and preschool during the holidays, plus we just got back from visiting the inlaws in Ohio last night.. UGH.. I did run 4 miles there on Monday and will run 4 either tonight or tomorrow and then 10 on Sunday.. and try to get in 2 - 3 mile runs next week before I leave on Thursday!!:banana:

Kim, I so hope you are feeling better... I would rest rest rest! You have enough in you to take a week off.. I hope to meet up while we are there!! when do you get in again?

Tandy, I read on another thread that you were giving the okay to run! YEAH! :thumbsup2 I bet you are sooo happy!!!

Oops! I forgot to update here.

Sports med doctor declared my stress fracture clinically healed. I am allowed to start with the elliptical this week, and move to walk/run next week on the treadmill. She gave me a training plan that should get me to Princess 2011 (Feb 27th), although I will likely be walking much of it.

I am going to take it slow and easy and try really hard NOT to reinjure. I want 2011 to be the year I improve to the point of having a serious PR for the OBX half in November (maybe even full!!).

The doc also approved the shoes that I got fitted for right before the stress fracture diagnosis, Gel-2150s. I evidently have flat feet to the point of being able to leave a complete wet footprint!

I also decided to take the shoes back and get the smaller size, as I felt that the size they put me in was floatingly big. So much so that I felt heat friction. I got fitted right after a 10 mile run so I think that they put me a half size too big based on fitting someone who hadn't just run.

However, those shoes are now on clearance they didn't have the size I wanted anymore, so I returned them, came home, and got 2 pairs on runningwarehouse for about $15 cheaper per pair than the local clearance price, plus they had my size and color choice.

I felt bad about not patronizing the local store, but I can really see why places like that struggle. I wind up in men's shoes, but I am on the lower end of the men's sizes (8.5) and upper end of the women's (10.5, good luck on finding *that* one!!), so I guess I am generally stuck with special order or online.

Okay, enough rambling here... hope everyone has a great New Year!!

Kat: I wear the same shoes. I love them so far. I went to the local store and they only had them in an ugly color so I got mine at running warehouse for $25 off each pair! I'm sorry, but that's a huge savings. I do buy my gels and sports bras from the local store, so it all works out. I'm glad you are free to run. Let's hope that's it and no more trouble for your race.

Disneybound: Thanks. It is nice to be able to run again. I have no faith in being painfree for long, though. I figure it'll happen during the half and I'll have to do the whole full in pain. I'm not usually pessimistic, but I just have this funny little feeling.
It is tough to get those training runs in with the holidays, but it sounds like you are doing pretty good. Keep it up!!!

Is everyone who's going for marathon weekend getting excited? I finally started packing yesterday. I just wanted to make sure that I only pull out the clothes I'm actually taking, so I've waited until the weather forecast was close. I'm not taking my winter coat, and I hope that won't be a mistake. But, it's looking good with highs in the high 60s and low 70s everyday!!!!
I am going to attempt my longest run in 3 weeks today, 5 whole miles. I am really worried that I have lost all my training. I did get an 18, 20 and 22 miler in, but it's going to end up being 5 weeks by the time the races start since I've had a run over 14 miles, and 4 weeks for that. But, if the ankle can just hold out for me, I'll be thrilled to cross the finish line both times. :thumbsup2

Dont feel too bad about runningwarehouse. You gave the local store their fair shot. I usually swing by the store to see if they have what I want or if I see it at an expo. But then its straight to runningwarehouse. And they treat us well, discount code and all, I've never had a complaint with anything. Its always at my door on time or early. They run a good shop.

Happy 2011 everyone!

It was an absolutely beautiful day here this morning (it's decided it wants to rain this evening though, so I'm glad I went out earlier!) and I forced myself to go do 10K. I really need to work on motivation for these last few weeks before the Princess! I've reached the point where I'm more excited about trip planning than I am about race training. Then again, that's understandable. :lmao:

True to my own personal style, I've already started daydreaming and planning for a Disneyland trip in September to get the Coast to Coast. Granted, I already informed everyone that if I finished the Princess I was immediately signing up for the Disneyland half. But, I couldn't help but get ahead of myself. I already made hotel reservations... :rotfl: Oh well, I can always cancel those if I need to.

I'm hoping I can get out of this motivational funk and really get serious about the next 8 weeks! 8 weeks from now I will have already done the 5K, enjoyed an afternoon in the parks, and be ready to have a nice easy evening before the Princess tomorrow. Wow! That went fast!

Meredith, I defintely want to meet up during the Princess sometime, if you are game! I too daydream of the Coast-to-Coast.

Yay for you on the 10K!!

Just wanted to say Happy New Year to everyone!! I have fallen off the face of the Earth it feels like!! I am trying to get back into my running routine and hope that everyone is doing great with theirs!! I took a LONG holiday break :rotfl:

Yea!! That's such great news Kat! Especially still being able to complete the Princess next month! Like Tandy, I use those shoes too. I've had that model forever and love them.

I'm pretty much packed too! :rotfl2: Just everyday stuff like make-up and hair straightener are not packed. My travel OCD kicked in X-mas weekend so I had to make out my list and it took everything not to pack last week.

You should totally come out for the DL 1/2!!! It's so much fun. I love it, I was going to register this morning, but I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that they'll have a booth with reg at the expo this weekend so there's no service charge from Active.

So now the bad news. I was good last week, no running b/c of my hamstring thing. Just the gym. But I got antsy yesterday and went on a 3 miler, it was going to be 5, but I couldn't finish it. My leg hurt so bad, I turned around and was limping all day yesterday. It's still sore today. I am now officially freaked out and worried. I'm hoping that it'll hold up for the race on Sunday and 1, I can finish and 2, I don't get swept up. I am so worried. I really want to finish this race. So much for breaking 5:15!! :sad1:

Thanks!! For anyone that wears 2150s, runningwarehouse.com just dropped their prices again. With the WISHD discount on the team discounts page, you can get them for $50.

I actually had ordered mine last Friday but they honored the new price and credited me back the difference today. :)

I hope your leg gets better in time!!! I would say to totally rest until race day, and then stock up on biofreeze. Maybe try tape?

Kim: I responded to your post on the marathon thread, but I just wanted to add that I do know how you feel. It's so late in the game to be dealing with this. I think, if you really have to, you could probably walk the whole thing and not get swept. Of course, that's not the same as a 5:15, but at least you could maybe finish it. If not, that's okay. I am in the same boat. I have been very gingerly testing out the ankle. 6 miles for my longest run and I'm supposed to run 39.3 this weekend? :scared1: So, maybe we'll both be limping and hobbling over that finish line. :lmao: Hang in there!

Shannon: Hope you enjoyed that long break! Maybe you'll get to finish that trip report now????

Meredith: Only 8 weeks left? Where has the time gone? I think you should definitely do both races! I've never been to DL, but someday.........

I leave for the airport in 1 day and 18 hours. I can't believe it's time for Goofy. The nerves have completely set in. I'm repacking over and over and can't seem to think straight. I just hope I can get through the 2 races upright. If my ankle holds out for the half, I can just walk/run the full. If it doesn't hold out, I'm just running through the pain. It's only a few hours of my life, right? Of course, then I have to spend the next 3 days in the parks. Hubby is prepared to rent a wheelchair if needed. ;)

Got the biofreeze all packed and ready to go.:goodvibes The good thing is that it's a roll on, so no messy fingers from the gel/gu that's in the packets.

Have fun getting there early. And yes, we'll both be hobbling!!:rotfl: Look at the bright side of the wheelchair, at least you'll get to go to the back of the rides and won't have to wait in line for the rides.

Tandy, I forgot to tell you. When you get to the expo on Thursday or Friday, look for a sports tape booth for your ankle. A lot of expos that I've been at recently have these. I don't remember if it was at the DL 1/2 in Sept, but I've seen it at other race expos. They are selling their tape, but they also have people there who will tape your ankle the way that their tape is supposed to be wrapped. The tape is also supposed to stay on for a long time, I think at least a few days and even in the shower. So that might help you out. Even if you have a brace, at least you ankle could be taped while you're walking around pre-race days.

Good luck to everyone heading to Florida this weekend! I'll be anxiously awaiting some trip reports!

I'm still slowly getting over this stomach bug. I haven't been sick in almost a week but I just still feel so washed out. In addition to that, it's so cold and rainy out! I figured out recently that I'm too much of a Southern girl. I dealt with 108 degrees this summer but 30-40 degrees just stops me in my tracks. Pitiful! And, my knees are sore today for some reason. I don't know if it's the cold/damp combo doing a number on my joints or if I managed to do something to them on Saturday (but you would think they'd bother me before now if that was the case). So, I think I'm going to lay low for the rest of the week and try to heal all around. I'm scheduled to do 9 miles on Saturday. We'll see!
