Okay ladies and gents -- here is my situation... I have a 20d which I have had since Nov. I been shooting around Disney and pretty much everywhere I go.

It's time to buy my first accessory. Which would you buy first...

A. Tripod
B. Telephoto Lense
C. Flash

I have a need for all 3 really... but if you had a rocket launcher pointed at your head which would u pick..

Well, it really depends on how much you want to spend. There's a LOT of disparity between the cost of those items.

cost is not an issue -- it's mostly what is more useful immediately in your opinion...

if money isn't an issue buy all 3.....

which would you use more frequently, buy that item first, it varies for each photographer depending on the type of photos they shoot..

I agree with Mickey88, it entirely depends on what type of photography you do.

If you want to shoot fireworks, you'll want the tripod. If you want to take potraits indoors, you might find the speedlight important. For me, it's all about glass, I've got three lenses with five more on my wish list. Each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. The problem you'll ahve as you buy more lenses is the desire to have more bodies to go with them LOL!

That's kind of hard to answer since it would depend on what type of photography you do as to which one would be most useful. I do a lot of action and sports shooting so for me the telephoto lens would be number one followed by a monopod (tripod on the sidelines is a pain to deal with). If you shoot a lot of low light photography then a tripod would be first in my opinion. If I shot a lot of portrait or product photography and lighting inconsistency was an issue I would go with the flash unit. So I think you need to assess what type of photos you generally take and which areas are the most frustrating to you. If you come home wishing you had just a little more length to get that far away shot, you're frustrated that your pictures are not as crisp as you want in low light, or you just wish you could light those faces and objects that appear dark in your pictures; these will help you decide which problem is most important to solve and which can wait.

They way I have done it the past was: zoom/telephoto lens, then tripod, then flash. There wasn't a lot of time inbetween the purchases at that time though. I got the longer telephoto/zoom when I bought my first camera, not long after that I got the tripod as a birthday present. A few months later I picked up the flash.

My advise. Get them all if cost isn't a factor.

For me, personally, it was telephoto first (purchased at the same time as the camera), then flash. I've never purchased a tripod and have no use for one. As others have said, if you're doing action shots, then get the lens first. I need the flash, also, because I shoot outdoors a lot and sometimes it can be quite dark and rainy. Also, a flash helps me get a little light onto faces in helmets when they're in deep shadow on extremely sunny days.

Another vote for... it all depends on what you're shooting.
