ughhh.. I am so mad. I have a newer Ford 500, 2007 model with only 40,000 miles. My a/c has broken once, the sunroof has broke on it, the rear brakes had to be replaced due to a recall and now the fuel sending sensor has gone out on it. It is going to cost me about $800 to fix this problem. I believe the A/C is going to go out again too...it is acting up again.

I am not happy with this car at all!!! I am going Friday to see if I can trade it in for a Toyota. I should have bought a Camry the first time.

Does anyone else have problems with their Ford cars?

I've had 2 Taurus's, and 2 Rangers.... nothing but trouble with all of them,:scared1:

Learned early on for us FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily!

(I know there are acronyms for the other cars too!)

I've had many Ford's and have never had problems -not one.

DH has bought Fords all his life (Tauruses and Explorers mostly) & I have a 1998 Explorer that I have had no problems with. Although I do love a Toyota...my 1st car was a Toyota and I had that for 13 years.

Nope, but I can tell you some Toyota stories :sad2: I don't know anyone who hasn't been eaten out of house and garage by their Toyota.

Probably is partially a dealer problem. Small issues can be overlooked and start to become bigger problems in the long run... as with any car.

Seriously? My Toyota has been a jewel. It's 10 years old now, with 178,000 miles on it. I did have to replace the engine 2 years ago, and I realize that's very major, but everything else has strictly been maintenance.

Now, Fords on the other hand. I've owned two, my parents have had numerous since 1974. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has had brake and air conditioning problems. Every one! No thanks, I'll buy another Toyota.

I agree with this. We have a Oldsmobile van and kept taking it to the dealer we bought it from and the same problem happened everytime. We took it to another dealer in the area after the third time of it happening and they said they saw the problem right away and don't know how they missed it. I think they did it on purpose so we'd want to trade it in and get a new car. Pathetic. :sad2:

My brother had a stupid small issue with his car as well last year that actually would cause the ignition to lock. It was a newer Mercedes and one of the dealers would just plug it into the computer and it would read out as nothing was wrong. They literally told him to drive it around and the problem should go away. It happened 3 or 4 times in one month, and I told him he should try a different dealer. They found the problem right away after actually LOOKING at the car, and he hasn't had a problem since. It was just a fuse that was about to go bad...

Amazing what one dealership can do!

To the OP, I would suggest first trying to change dealerships first before looking to trade in. You will lose even more money on a trade in during the long run!

I had an 89 mustang that was the best car I've ever owned. I never had one issue with it. Loved that car!

Then we bought a Contour in 97. That was a lemon. In and out of the shop and we finally just traded it in for a Hyundai.

In addition to the Hyundai we now have a Freestyle that we love. No problems so far but it's only 3 years old.

Wow that is unfortunate. My husband has a 96 Ford f150.. 210,000 miles. Still kicking after all this time!
I have a 2004 Expedition, not one bit of trouble ever. We have only had to change oil and tires.

I did have a Corolla for about 11 yrs, it would have prob lasted another few yrs, but we gave it to our 18 yr old and he didnt take care of it. Poor girl died a sad death.

Nope..we love our FORDS!!!

Have had an escort, then got a taurus wagon , and windstar and freestar minivans....

we also have a escape....

have been very happy with all of them!!!

oh I forgot about the ranger pick-up we had before the escape...

We have a 2001 Ranger. No significant problems until now. Buying tires always seemed to be the most costly. A gasket on our radiator is leaking, and then where the radiator/heater hoses/sensor all connect, there's a crack in one of the connections. It could cost a couple hundred to replace, or grand if it breaks and goes into the intake. Plus another few hundered for replacement of the radiator, which is one of those things that eventually die for a car so old. It's got 152,000 miles on.

Kari also refuses to give up her Mercury Villager '95. We've spent a ton of money on it. replaced the starter, timing belt, cv joints, alternator, steering, it's already on it's second transmission, and it needs to get rebuilt (1700$ for that).

But right now it's better to drive the van with no second gear (since it already needs rebuilding) than driving the truck that keeps over heating. Although I put in some of that liquid stop leak. I didn't drive it yesterday, so I don't know how well it worked. And it's about due for a new timing belt as well.

All cars are going to cost you some where down the line. It just depends on how soon it starts wanting to act up.

My DH has a '04 Ranger...now to be fair he's hard on his cars/trucks and he's put a lot of miles on it, but even so I think he's had more issues with it than he should have had.

I'm a GM girl, myself. Had my Saturn for 11 years and it's doing fine.

Or "Found On Roadside Dead"!;)

We are Chevy fans in my house, so I'm biased. On a serious note, I agree with the earlier post regarding who is servicing the vehicle. We had a similar problem about 20 years ago and everything was resolved when we starting using a different dealership.

I can only speak from my experience with the one Ford I ever owned: My 1997 Ranger. I never had one problem with it. I drove it for almost 13 years, and put over 150,000 miles on it. The transmission was starting to go out, so just last month I decided it was time to get a new car. But I never had to do more than the typical maintenance stuff on that truck! I LOVED my Ford! :thumbsup2

My family has had Fords forever. My Dad has had Mercury and Ford since the early 90's, if not late 80's. No problems ever. Right now we have a '03 Ford Taurus and have never had a single issue with it. My brother totalled my Dad's 98 Taurus a few years ago but it was going strong at the time. Right now my parents have a mid 90's Mercury Villager, 2007 Mercury Moutaineer and a 2002 Mercury Sable.

I'm also going to agree with those that say that it may be a dealer problem. Of course, I'm biased since DH is an auto tech for a Lincoln/Mercury dealer. ;)

We only have Fords. Our '96 conversion van is running strong with close to 180,000 miles. Our '02 Ford Focus has 141,000 and DD's '05 Focus has 122,000 miles.

The dealer that DH works at often gets customers that have taken their cars to a different dealer or an independent shop prior to coming to them. They have a good reputation and most of the journeymen there have been with the dealer for over 20years. Experience really does matter!

I asked him quickly about your situation and he suggested that you talk to the service manager or even go above his head, especially if you bought the car there. His shop is always "good willing" repairs for customers especially those that have had the car in before (or have the maintenance work done there). Of course, the techs don't like that because they get paid much less for the repairs and the service desk doesn't like it because it comes out of their commission check but they realize that it's part of staying in business. If you don't get anywhere with them, ask to speak to the "dealer rep" from Ford assigned to their dealer. Most likely, if it goes that far, the rep will authorize the repairs since you're not that far out of warranty and have had the car in the shop in the past.

For what it's worth, my friend just traded in her Toyota because she's had nothing but problems with it. She's had it in the shop so often that service writer recognized her voice when she would call to schedule the appointment.
