WISH Challenge Never-Give-Up November chat thread!

Happy Friday everyone! I love today's quote! Pam, those are really great. Thanks for keeping up with posting one for us everyday!

Glad you liked it!!

I normally don't remember motivational sayings that much, but there is one that came up when I was watching the German version of The Biggest Loser (it was a teen edition and I thought it was very well done to not only focus on the losing aspect, but also on the maintenance aspect). One guy found a saying, that losely translated said: "Winners stop when they have won, losers stop when they are tired". I liked it because it shows that you are a winner when you don't give up just because you are tired!

I like that one too!

Sarah, I am sorry that you are feeling so low at the moment! But I think that just coming here regularly is something that you can control and it will help you to get back into things. I can so well relate to not having the energy to watch your eating. I find it so difficult to not just give in -even if I have a plan. Food that is available and around is always a danger for me. But I see that motivation is the most important thing for me and coming here is my daily motivation booster (going back to the quote Pam posted at the beginnig about how motivations doesn't last, but so doesn't showering either).

I am going into a difficult weekend with visiting my aunt where they always have delicious food and then we are there to bake cookies, so there will be some cookie batter eating. It is part of the tradition!! ;) And that at a time when I just want to get rid of that final pound that makes me oveweight! I so wish I could get my weight down before the vacation. But I can only try my best and then will see what comes out of it...

Prayers that the one pound will DISAPPEAR! And good luck with the cookie dough.... there are TWO foods that I have ALWAYS considered my kryptonite.... oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough (just the dough, not the cookies) and movie theater popcorn. I've made HUGE STRIDES in resisting/replacing the popcorn this year.... but the cookie dough is still a temptation! So I can totally understand! And I look forward to eating my own portion of cookie dough come Christmas Eve!:rotfl:

Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it more than I can say.

An update on yesterday:
Mostly I followed my food plan, with a few exceptions.

I didn't have a bun for my veggie burger, so I ended up having an "open faced" burger on one slice of bread (and I used some of the leftover calories for a slice of cheese - because I haven't had a veggie cheeseburger in a while). I also had a small salad before my dinner, and added some veggies to my omelet (and didn't have cheese in it like I usually do).

I did graze a little - a handful of almonds and two handfuls of popcorn - and I also had a cookie at the end of the night, but even with all that, I was exactly where I wanted to be (in terms of calories) for the day - which was awesome! The cookie did kinda make me hungry (it's why they're such a trigger food for me - I can't have just one cookie, I need more food afterwards ... but we can't be without those particular cookies in the house because my brother will probably mutiny), but by the time that hit, I was upstairs for good and it was time for bed - I wasn't dragging myself back downstairs just to eat something I didn't really want.

Overall, I think it was a step in the right direction. Today will be a little harder because Fridays are insane days for me, but I just have to keep taking those small steps and hope that I have more good days than bad days.

I have no idea what I'm eating for any of my meals today ... I'm kind of in the mood for a bagel and latte (my old Friday staple - it serves as 2 meals because I eat half the bagel for breakfast and half for morning snack lunch, and since I often eat an early dinner on Fridays, especially during the fall & winter, I don't get that hungry). Problem is, I have a lot to do and don't want to waste the time walking to the bagel store and Starbucks ... and it's cold out. I guess latte and bagel will have to wait for next Friday, and I'll have to make do with what I have in the house ... I'm thinking whole wheat toast with butter or margarine and some sort of coffee (although I don't really want to set up the coffee maker, so it'll probably be Starbucks instant). Hopefully once I have some food in me I'll have the energy to figure out what I want for snacks & lunch (and since my mom makes menus for Friday dinner and Saturday lunch, I should be able to track those down to help me figure out whether to have a big or small lunch today). I do know we're having roasted cauliflower at some point in time (my mom just emailed me asking me to make it in a few hours)

I know that I don't have full control over my meals, but I also know that I need to make the best of what I have and put as much thought as I can into the meals I can control.

Magdalene - good luck with the cookie baking! I think it's okay to have some cookie batter once in a while ... the occasional cookie batter won't take you off course unless you let it! Some fun with family is always a nice thing - so focus on that and try not to think about the cookies!

Okay, it's almost 9:30, so I should really have some breakfast and get started on my to-do list. Have a great day & weekend, everyone!

Sounds like you were able to tackle some challenges. It can be SO HARD when you don't have 100% control of the food you are offered.... DD struggles with the dessert table at school and I can see why EVERY TIME I VISIT! They put it front and center... you literally cannot get any other foods without walking right past it! And it is easy for me to sit here and said just skip it... but it is different when it is in your face. I guess the best I can offer is "STAY STRONG.... IT IS WORTH IT!!"

****************************

Morning all! I've been up for a while, but trying to stay quiet so my men can get some extra sleep. Yesterday was exhausting for them both (robotics in the a.m. and theater production call until 10:30 last night for DS and a fraternity dinner for DH). None of us got to bed until after 11pm and that was after being up between 4:30 and 5:15 am.

I did get in two walks yesterday between matches.... but it was cold and the wind was freezing and I didn't have a hat. I did a 12 minute walk around the track before lunch and then DH and I walked around the school campus for about 15 minutes after lunch. So at least I didn't just sit all day!::yes::

I am ignoring the slight sore throat I awoke with.... prayers that it disappears by tomorrow please!!

I've got an assortment of things to do today, including cleaning out DH's side of the garage so that he can finally park in there again! I cleaned out most of my stuff a few weeks ago and it is mostly his mess left, but I want to be helpful...... sort of.:rolleyes2 And of course the usual meal planning, a bit of laundry, run the vacuum around, etc, and DS is off to a Quiz Bowl event at 1pm. I have a lot of work days scheduled this week so I need to really plan and prep my dinners and my outfits to make the week a bit easier.

Off to enjoy my belated breakfast!......................P

Hope everyone had a great weekend.. I was taking it easy, I started to get sick with a horrible sore throat on Tuesday, still managed to work Wed and Thursday but I took Friday as a sick day! laid around all day and night and most of Saturday too and was feeling just like my old self on Sun! we got a new (used) fridge on Wed after work and my parents were down so they helped us get it in - thank god since I was feeling pretty rotten, Thursday after work we transfer all our stuff from the old one to the new one.. who would have thought that 2 inches wide and 4 inches tall would make such a difference!! OMG I feel like I could put sooo much more in both the fridge and freezer (although I would say the extra room is more noticeable in the freezer) I work this week and then am on vacation for thanksgiving week.. see you all soon.. Michelle

Glad that you took care of yourself and that you are feeling better. And WOOHOO on a new fridge!! And that is GREAT that you are on vacation for T.giving week!

**********************

Happy Monday everyone! I dashed out the door this morning to run some errands after I dropped DS at school and of COURSE, rather than taking 2 hours it took almost 4 hours! Staples, Market Basket, Target, and a few other random spots..... but I maxed out my coupon usage and got some good deals plus some necessities and I am nearly DONE buying stocking stuffers and about half done with Advent treats.

I took the time yesterday to prep a bunch of veggies for the week (for lunches, snacks and dinners), and my menu plan is posted (although I think I will change the pot roast night to a roast chicken night, since DS won't be home). It is going to be a busy week as I am working every day (except today), plus my WW plus DS will be out of the house most evenings (the play he is lighting director for opens Friday night).

Tonight is my red, white, and green chili (originally designed for chicken, but I use pork so that DS can eat it). The veggies got chopped yesterday (except for the onion, which I had to buy today) and they are already sauteed (while I made lunch). Hopefully it will yield some leftovers for a lunch or two during the week.

Tomorrow is the crockpot roast chicken and veggies and then a soup on Wednesday night and Thursday will be stuffed zucchini boats that I made in September and put in the freezer. So it should be an easy cooking week! I love it when I "help" myself like that! Anyone else a fan of pre-cooking or a weekend prep time???

I've been working on a few projects here and I want them finished before T.giving, so I'm going to dash for now! I've got to leave to pick up DS in 10 minutes and all I've done so far today is shop, put the groceries away, and eat lunch! :( ..............................P

Agghh! I really did not mean to disappear again. I went to my sister's for a couple of days late last week to watch my niece. Had computer issues. Had a drama fest over the weekend, and here I am.

My eating is horrendous and I am not even getting out the scale. I am such a mess and have decided I just need to get through the next week one way or another and then I will have NO MORE EXCUSES.

Mike is going to Chicago for two days. Boo! So I am stuck inthe hotel by myself, well not really, more like stuck with the dog and she is done with the hotel. She will go to daycare one day, so that will help.

This is what I wanted and I know I will be happy when our house is finally done. We are excited. But we are now starting out 7th week in a hotel and it is awful!

The worst part--a couple of weeks ago I forgot to walk my mile. Just forgot after 21 months. :( It was so upsetting. I have since then skipped 5 days in a row, but got back on the wagon last week. I know missing 6 days in almost 2 years is still an accomplishment, but I feel so out of sorts.

Positive--I applied for a bunch of jobs today, updated my linked in profile, started a spreadsheet for decorating and pinned a ton of things to do for our new house.

Thanks for letting me share. I miss my work friends and I am a bit lonely, but it is almost over. Only 8 more nights in the hotel!

Pamela--thank you for continuing to post the positive quotes. :)

Oh Rose.... I'm so sorry you've been struggling so. And you must have been so mad at yourself for missing your walk. But you are RIGHT.... two years is a HUGE accomplishment. You beat me, hands down, every day, on exercise!! So cut yourself some slack and be ready to get back in the wagon next week when life gets back to your new normal!! Can't wait to hear about any job opportunities that come your way!

Evening all! I realized that I posted a chat, but never posted a motivation for MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY!!

So here you go.............

f5e7b4c81622601a7d13f702d81ec994.jpg

You ALL inspire me EVERY DAY! You inspire me to eat right, to move more, to think more and to share more! Thank you!

See you tomorrow!.....................P

Good morning! :)

I am volunteering today for the same agency I worked for in Louisville before we moved. I have been doing it for about a month now to stay busy until I find a job. Mike is off to Chicago for a quick trip and then Thursday we have our home inspection and new home orientation. It is cold here (lows in the 20s) and my coats are still in storage...just one more week!

My plan for today is to walk at least a mile and try to at least make some healthy food choices.

I have started on a meal plan for when we move into our new house. Can't wait to be able to cook again!

Have a great Tuesday!

Morning Rose and friends! I'm working my double day today without computer access other than my phone, so don't expect much! ;)

Rose, you sound ready to get back on track!

Sore throat is better but swollen glands are sore, so I will admit to shutting off the early "I will get in a workout" alarm in favor of a bit more sleep.

Happy birthday to our favorite mouse today !!! TTYL..........P

i just  that quote about making today so fabulous that yesterday will be jealous!!! Pamela all the quotes continue to be new to me and so excellent!!! they keep me coming back!!!

it's been a few days, I don't seem to make it on here on the weekends. which is ok it's time with DH :goodvibes he works long days during the week

yesterday was a college visit with DD, we decided last minute to drive up the night before and get a hotel with the prediction of ice/snow, we had to be there early in the morning and it was a 2 hr drive. I don't do mornings well  actually neither of us too...Addison's for me and Juvenile Rhuematoid Arthritis for her does not make it easy to bounce out of bed...but I'm thankful we can make modifications like get a hotel :thumbsup2 and that included a dip in the pool and hot tub which was so nice

I was so bummed...before I left I charged my fitbit and left it on the charger so I didn't get to track my steps walking around campus :sad2:

Rose -- so sorry it's been a struggle and you forgot your mile!!

Pamela -- skipping that workout to fight off your illness is a good plan! hope you feel better soon!

I need to start doing better planning out my meals. just for sanity I think. I forget what's in the freezer to use, but we just cleaned out a spot in the garage for a small upright freezer  so that will help . you guys are so inspiring that plan it all out..i'm never that caught up!

printed out coupons, heading off to grocery. we've been out of bread for 5 days! doesn't bother me, but DD is getting agitated LOL

Hi everyone. Hope you are all having a good month. I kinda slipped to MIA status. I've been way off on tracking but not eating like I want to either. Struggling to keep up. My brother had surgery last Tuesday on his back and finally relaxing back to normal schedule just in time for my birthday Thursday. Then next week hosting Thanksgiving so got a lot to get done around house. Hopefully all the working around house will burn a lot of calories. lol My brother will be on a walking program for his recovery possibly starting tomorrow when he gets okay from surgeon. He's getting around pretty well but gets sore after awhile. He'll be building up for sure but it will be some walking we will all do together twice a day for his recovery plan.

Better head off to bed gotta be at his surgeons office at 9am and its a good 20-30 minute drive. Then my own Dr.(or NP) appointment will be in afternoon. I then will have lab orders to get done. Maybe from now on I'll see if they can write them and I can go before the refills are out and save the co pay of another appointment after for her to tell me nothing has changed. That irks me. :rolleyes2 I also think she will want to increase Metformin because I doubt my A1C has dropped much based on the occasional fasting glucose I remember to take in mornings. And Walgreens hasn't been refilling my strips. So strange they kept wanting to refill the lancets which I have tons of already. I declined that refill. I'll ask about strips. I have some but not a lot.

Not sure where weight is running haven't weighed in awhile. I'm thinking I'm up but my one jeans that finally fit decently again are still fine.

That's okay... we are trying out a new more relaxed pace here!

How about an inventory on the freezer door? It works pretty well if you can keep up with it.

DH and I would be fine without bread, but DS would starve!:rotfl:

Meds and doctors and pharmacies.... oh my! Good for you for keeping in top of things.

If you can't get on a scale then a favorite pair of pants is a great way to judge your progress!~

Morning all! Sore throat and swollen glands are NOT improving. Any homemade remedies that you swear by??? If it was just a scratchy throat I wouldn't worry.... but the swollen glands are super tender. I CANNOT still be sick next week!!!!!!!

BTW, one of my WW members hit 102 pounds lost last night! How super exciting! I'm THRILLED to have had just a TINY PART in helping her stay the course!

Off to post today's motivation and then made breakfasts and lunches for the day! Working again, but not doubles, so I should be able to pop on this afternoon!.......................P

I absolutely love todays quote! Thanks so much for the effort of finding and posting them, Pam!

Sorry, life is busy here with getting stuff organised before vacation (I will be gone for three weeks). And yesterday I had a nasty migraine. The new painkillers I got work pretty well, but I still felt tired and exhausted. I am so glad that I am going to be away somwhere sunny soon. The darkness is already getting annoying. And there is still another month of getting even darker left...

Eating and exercising hasn't been as good as it should have been. But I am happy that I did not lose all control over the last few days. I felt that in the past those would have been the days when I would have eaten a lot of junk because I was already off the path. Now I mainly eat more of the healthy stuff than I should. But that's still better than eating junk! And overall most likely less calories as well. I have to admit that feeling tired and exhausted has led to less planning and that again led to not so great meals. I need to plan again and especially pack my lunches! I already have a plan for tomorrow though!

Let the cures come I woke up with a sore throat and a stuffy head. I can still breath but the tea is a little hard going down.

Thanks Pam for all the inspirational quotes. They really start my day.

I hope everyone with the sore throats, migraines, etc feels better soon. No ideas for cures here, except rest, hot tea and vitamin C.

P--love today's quote. :) And congrats to your WW member! That's amazing. Do you think you could have strep or a sinus infection with the swollen glands? I lived with an undiagnosed sinus infection several years ago and ended up with all kinds of problems. Don't let it go too long without at least a trip to a little clinic.

Molli--I am not great at meal planning but I ALWAYS lose weight when I do. So you would think that would motivate me to do better with it!

Magdalene--I dislike this time of the year so much--can't deal with the short days. Winter solstice is one of my favorite days of the years! Do you take vit D? It helps me immensely in the winter, especially.

We are having record lows here--14 this morning. I thought I was moving somewhere warmer.:lmao: But by tomorrow it is back in the 50s. I did not have a great food day yesterday, but I at least logged onto mfp. Only 6 more nights in a hotel! So beyond excited.:goodvibes

Have a great day!

We woke up to 23 degrees. I walk the dog in the afternoons and the sun is so low that it is directly in my eyes as I walk to the park. Usually we sit on a bench and watch the water but yesterday we went, he did his business and then we walked home.

Can't take all the credit! Pinterest is a wonderful resource.... and I have a lot of them already pinned on my "Food for Thought" board.

Plenty of tea and vitamin C, but I could use a nap right now!

Head feels yucky when I bend over, but other than that I am not at all stuffy or congested. Just a bit of a sore throat with really swollen glands...:confused3

You will get back to it, I'm sure, once life settles down! I see an AMAZING 2015 in your future!! New home, new job, and renewed committment to your health!

Don't blame you one bit!! Another person stuck in "brrrr-ville"!! I think many of us here in the U.S. are suffering with unusually cold and snowy weather!

Evening all! Today was another long day with a frustrating class. I tried SO HARD to stay positive, actively NOTICE the better behavior.... but they started the day coming in complaining and arguing and when you don't feel well it is hard to combat all that negativity. But I'm done in that class (for now at least). Phew~! Tomorrow I am the music teacher.... boring but usually blissfully uneventful!

I had every intention to come home and take a nap, but I decided I would be better off pushing through and heading right to bed after the robotics meeting. So I'm making some dinner now, will head out in about 30 minutes, hopefully be home by 8pm, and then crash.... unless DH wants me to pick up DS at 10pm, in which case I will stay up.:(

Off to enjoy my dinner of roasted sweet potato and carrots!! TTYL...........P

Sounds like I'm not the only one battling the headache sinus cold thing. Today all of the kids are home with it too.
My food and exercise have been terrible. Can't work out because I can't breathe and I swear I'm eating everything in the house in an attempt to taste something besides cardboard.
I am terribly far behind in my half marathon training but I think I can catch up with that pretty quickly. I have 2 races next week as long as it's not freezing or snowing so that will help kick start me.
I've thrown in the towel for weight loss until after thanksgiving though. My birthday is Monday, DH is having a minor surgery Tuesday, back to the DR Wednesday for post op check up, thanksgiving Thursday and a small party Friday with my BFF. So no time for a meeting or weigh in. But this is top priority the following week!

First of all...I'm so sorry you are sick too! Prayers that it is gone quickly for ALL of you!!

Sorry that the training is falling behind.... but I'll bet you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish once you put your mind to it! Next week's races should give some momentum to the training!

Next week sounds crazy! Prayers of COURSE for DH! And happy early birthday my friend! Wish I was close enough to celebrate with you!! And HAPPY THANKSGIVING, since I'm sure next week will be nuts!

Evening all! I cannot believe it is not even 7pm and I am done with dinner, DS is dropped off and I am in my comfy sweats! Plenty of time to get the dishes done and plan tomorrow's clothing, breakfast, and lunch before I relax and watch tonight's Biggest Loser!

Hope you all are well and that those who are battling colds and flu get better quickly!! I am recovering slowly but surely.

Working tomorrow but I will try to pop on in the morning before heading out!....................P

So sorry that I don't have the time currently to be more around to chat! But I am very happy to see so many people posting! I am wondering whether the chat thread might not be easier to keep up with as it is easier to take part in an informal chat when one is struggling than in any competition type month.

I still love all the quotes and I think this is a perfect element to keep the chat from just withering away! I liked the last one, too. At first I felt a bit negative about it, I always react a bit negative to anything that implies that I should not enjoy my food. I really love good food, especially high quality food. But I think this is not what the quote is about. It is about being conscious about food in my opinion. And this is something I really have improved in over the last few months! The upcoming vacation will be the test of how much it has become natural to me already!

And the best news is that I stepped on the scale today and despite not really tracking over the last 5 days and being scared to even face the scale, I dropped nearly a pound. :confused3 I am starting to think that I am indeed eating too little... The two times in the last months when I had a weekend where I splurged on nearly all my weekly points were both weeks with nice losses. I think when I come back from vacation I will try to eat all my weekly points for a few weeks and see what happens!

I am leaving on Sunday, not sure I will be able to pop in before. But I might send you a virtual postcard while away! :goodvibes I will miss you, and popping in thanks to a hotel wifi will help me to stay on track while vacationing!
