WISH Away The Pounds - Marvelous March Challenge ~~ All are WELCOME!

I'm so behind! Skimming to catch up, and I've missed some QOTDs (I *love* roller coasters and am a singer, so that might sum up the last two! :lmao:) I can tell that the week leading up to our spring break getaway is going to be bananas. At least we get a vacation at the end of it! Taking off from the girls' school at 2pm next Friday...I can't wait!

QOTD Friday, March 14

This a repeat from the past, but I am going to throw it out there.

Quick, you just left work late, you have 20 minutes to get dinner ready before you have to (fill in the blank--get your kids to practice, make it to a meeting, etc) what's for dinner?

Two rules: no fast food and it must contain at least one vegetable and one fruit or two vegetables.

The first thing that comes to mind is a breakfast for dinner - either an egg white frittata (using whatever veggies are in the drawer or even the freezer) and a little cheese or omelets (the kids usually get full egg in those cases, while I make mine with egg whites). Whole wheat toast with cinnamon and berries on the side. I love Breakfast For Dinner(tm). :)

Happy Friday, everyone! I am up waaaay too late and have 3 miles to run before school dropoff in the morning, so it's bedtime for me...

I would call DH and tell him to cook something for the kids and I would grab a healthly vegtable microwave dinner. :lmao:

Hi everyone! I finally had a good weigh in this morning!!! I am down 1.5 pounds since the start of the challenge now. And the great thing is that I finally saw a new "lowest number"! My weight fluctuates up and down and when it goes down, I had never (in this round of weight loss) seen this number so far. So very happy with that!

I have now completed my first two days of level 3 of the 30DS. Still struggling with the exercises, partly for strength, but also because of coordination issues. Some of these moves you first have to learn before you know what you are doing... But I am also amazed at myself as I know that before I did start with the programm I would have had no chance to do some of the exercises in that level! Just another 8 more sessions and I am done!

Pamela, don't worry about having difficulties with the results! I think threads like this will always ebb and flow - I am currently posting less because I was just having such a busy time at work for example and I am sure it is all kind of reasons for others, too! I don't think at all that you killed the thread!!

Also, if you need someone, I could take over hosting next week.

Rose, thanks for taking over hosting this week! I have read your weight loss and health story a few times now and am always inspired by it! It's amazing that you are so strong and just don't give up!

QOTD:
Since here in Germany lunch is traditionally the "big meal" of the day, i.e. cooked, my easy healthy dinner would be just 2 slices of rye bread (very dark, similar to pumpernickel), turkey breast or ham on top (served as an open faced sandwich) and carrot, bell pepper, tomato or cucumber to go with it. Maybe I would add some plain low fat yoghurt mixed with a spoon of home-made low sugar jam.

Thanks for hosting Pam and hi again Rose!:wave2:

QOTD: My fall back is to usually to make a salad and throw either a hard boiled egg or low fat cheese on it for protein. I'm trying to go more vegetarian, but love Boar's Head Honey Maple Turkey and have used that as well. Yummy!:woohoo:

Not starting off this weekend on a good note, was up .8 pounds this morning . I know I didn't have an active week and the diet was far from being that great, but I am SO tired of this roller coaster I seem to be on the last few weeks :sad2:. Feels like that goal weight seems to be getting further and further away, even though it's only 8 pounds away at this point. It seems to be hanging there like the proverbial carrot on a stick!

Yikes! Sounds like I'm back on the Kimmie pity-party train...oh how I HATE that!!

I can understand so well how you are feeling!!! I am 11 pounds away from my goal weight (so still a little bit more than you) and I am moving towards it at a snail's pace at the moment it seems. Despite being so active and being really good with my eating. The only thing that keeps me sane is that I put my weight every morning into an app on my phone and there I can see that overall in the last two months there is a downward trend. But at this speed, I will get to my goal sometime next year it feels like.... :sad2: And the scary thing is that I am so afraid that once I am maintaining I won't really be able to eat more than I am eating now and that is depressing...

The only thing that keeps me on track is that I know if I give up everything I have lost so far will be gained back easily! And so all the hard work I put into it so far will be for nothing. So hang in there! And if you need to vent we are happy to listen to it!! :grouphug:

Morning friends! Here at school today and the kids will be in here in 4 minutes, so no time for replies, but I just wanted to say HELLO!

I will be back about 10:30 when they head to Computer!.............P

We usually have homemade veggie burgers in the freezer so I would pull one out and have it with steamed broccoli. We also sometimes throw together what we call nachos: a couple of tostitos scoops, canned beans, salsa, fresh shredded cheese and whatever else is in the fridge--usually tomatoes, onions, olives, etc.

Quick reply and a quick question.

Question for those on MFP.
As you lose weight, how often do you readjust calories? I'm down almost 20 pounds since starting MFP and I haven't changed my calorie intake. Should I? My weight is coming off slowly but I think it's more of a lack of exercise than diet. Although my diet can use a little tweaking.
My current meal allotment is 310 calories for meals and 105 for each snack. 310 is not a lot to play with but I can cut back in the snack area if need be.

Hmmm. So is that about 1200 total calories? I have heard you shouldn't go below 1200 calories, but I have also hear if you are small to start with (aka short ;) ) that you need less calories....I honestly don't think I would go below that but would rather try to increase the activity. If you do decrease your calories make sure you are eating "good" calories and maybe even taking a supplement.

Sorry I am not much help. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

I love boiled eggs. I eat one almost every day. They are my go to food. I go through periods where I eat a ton of salads and then when I don't eat a salad for months.

I am sorry about the goal frustration. I think when you get within that last 10 pounds it can be really challenging. I have often asked myself--should I call this good enough and be done??? Just remember to recognize that no matter what you are at a healthy place.:goodvibes

I think one of the good things about losing slowly at the end is that you are already just about in maintain mode. I will not say that maintaining is easy, but usually even if you go up a pound or two, as long as you know what is going on and catch it fast, those pounds don't stick around very long.:goodvibes

****
I hope everyone is having a good Friday. We are having a crazy weather week (which is pretty normal around here), but today it is going to be 60, so I am going to try to get outside at least a little bit. And I still have to run my mile at some point today. Tomorrow I have 9 miles on the plan which will be a good test for my back.:goodvibes

I will try to check back in later today.:goodvibes

I eat so many egg whites I'm surprised I haven't started clucking!:lmao:

Do you do twists before and during your run? I found, since I have to stop every mile or so and stretch out the IT bands anyway, that if I really push a good twist, the back feels ALOT better (loose) and I can continue on with my mileage. I just make sure to try and lengthen the spine first before twisting. (Thank you, oh Yoga master intructor!:goodvibes)

Morning all!

QOTD for Thursday, March 14, 2013:

If you could be on a reality TV show, which one would it be? Why?

SURVIVOR! I've been a fan since day #1.... but now that I am older, the idea of being hungry and wet and cold is much less appealing.... but for the $1Million, I might be willing to try!

Hi! I'm Rose and I will be your coach for the week. :)

Hi Rose!! Thank you SO MUCH!!

For those who don't know me--I am 45, Mom to a college senior, and married to my college sweetheart. I have fought my weight in one form or another for most of my life, though in retrospect a lot of it was in my head. I was a very healthy, thin weight in high school, but of course still thought I was 'fat'. Lots of issues, what can I say.

Anyhow, when my DS went to college I was sad and miserable and didn't feel well. I hadn't felt well for years. I went back to work and in January 2010 joined the BL thread. I had lost and regained the same 20-30 pounds so many times, but always got to a point where I didn't feel well and then gained it back. This time I was determined to stick it out.

In Jan 10 I weighed 189. I went to maintain in Sept at 147, and kept going. By Feb of 11 I was down to 137--2 pounds from my hs weight, and sick. My hair was falling out in clumps (my stylist told me I was going bald), I was exhausted, and I had so many health problems that I was just living with including a weird heartbeat that sent me to the cardiologist. This was kind of a pattern for me and losing weight, but this time I didn't gain it back. I went to my doctor and I now know that I have severe gluten intolerance--I will never have a c-d diagnosis because I gave up gluten before having a biopsy, but I did have alternative testing which indicates that I probably do have c-d so I behave like I do and strictly avoid all gluten. I have gained back about 14 pounds, my hair is growing back, my heartbeat is back to normal and most of my other issues have resolved themselves. I am happy to feel healthy.

And while I would like to lose about 5 pounds or so, if this is the weight I stay at, then I am happy.

So I feel like I have seen a lot through this journey. My body really fought to hold onto the weight when I was sick. The malnutrition from the gluten issues really did a number on me when I was losing, but it seems to be under control now.

Losing weight is hard work!! But I am here to tell you that it is so worth it. It is so much easier to 'listen' to your body when you are a healthy weight.

I will be cheering for everyone to have a good week!

Thanks for sharing your story with us. And you are right.... it is hard work, but well worth it... and let's face it, being overweight and unhealthy is hard too!

Usually I'd say eggs or veggie burgers, but so many mentioned those that I will go for something else. A few months ago I would have said salmon burgers, but I made a vow to DD that I would stop buying all fish products. She has been reading to me about the overfishing, bycatch issues, etc and has convinced me that there is NO SUCH THING as "sustainable seafood" at the moment, other than individual wild pole caught fish..... which means I will be buying some fish from my nephew and BIL this summer for the freezer!!

So my answer will be homemade pizza! I usually keep a few of the honey whole wheat crusts on hand for the kids and always have the low carb tortillas that DH and I eat in the pantry. As long as I have some sort of tomato product and shredded cheese, there is your pizza! Top it with some leftover cooked veggies or a bag of the fire-roasted onions and peppers I keep in the freezer, some baby spinach, maybe roasted red peppers or sundried tomatoes (always have a jar of each of those on hand) or even toss together a small side salad. And for dessert, there is nearly ALWAYS fruit in the house.... usually apples, grapes, and/or berries.

Thank you to Pamela for coaching the first two weeks!
I am so sorry the excel spreadsheet is challenging. I am an excel geek and put everything on excel--me fitness/weight data, my meal planning, my disney plans, etc. So I always assume everyone loves it as much as me.:goodvibes

I will be back in the morning with replies. :goodvibes

DH attempted to show me how to use the spreadsheet yesterday... but his teaching methods usually either involve a 2 hour explaination of something that only needs 10 minutes.... or he gets annoyed when I don't know the basics of something. I didn't have the patience (or the time) for either of those methods yesterday.

Quick reply and a quick question.

Yes I see a chiropractor and he is a godsend!! I love him and he kept me upright and walking with my last 3 pregnancies. I had severe sciatica and he rescued me from my car numerous times because I couldn't get out on my own.
However, he is extremely gentle! I won't see the other 2 Drs in the office because they are more aggressive.

I have nothing to compare my Chiropractor to, as he is the only one I've ever seen....but I'd be curious to know where he falls in that scale of aggressiveness.

Don't use MFP, so I guess I can't answer your question specifically, but I will say that on WW as your weight goes down, so does your PointsPlus allowance.

I'm so behind! Yikes! Sounds like I'm back on the Kimmie pity-party train...oh how I HATE that!!

I'm riding the pity-party train with you a bit this week..... although I KNOW how I got here and what I need to do to change it. Do you have a plan to get things going in the right direction for the upcoming week??

I can understand so well how you are feeling!!! I am 11 pounds away from my goal weight (so still a little bit more than you) and I am moving towards it at a snail's pace at the moment it seems. But even if it IS next year when you reach your goal, so what?? If you quit now because things are moving slowly, then where will you be next year at this time? At goal?? I doubt it!!

I KNOW that you know that slow and steady WILL win the race.... but at times when it seems like you are ALWAYS hungry, or ALWAYS saying no to treat and the goal seems SO far away, it is so frustrating. Time to vent about the frustration and then move on, right???:thumbsup2

The only thing that keeps me on track is that I know if I give up everything I have lost so far will be gained back easily! And so all the hard work I put into it so far will be for nothing. So hang in there! And if you need to vent we are happy to listen to it!! :grouphug:

Hope the back holds up for the longer run tomorrow. We had some 50 degree days last weekend and early part of the week... and then low teens today and snow showers passing through last night!:confused3 I am SO done with winter!!

I eat so many egg whites I'm surprised I haven't started clucking!:lmao:

I'm with you! That is why I started changing things up and substituting some tofu and veggies burgers for my usual egg white protein at breakfast!

Okay friends.... here is a challenge for you!

I am attending a 25th anniversary party tonight at a nice inn (where the wedding originally happened.... isn't that sweet? ). Anyhow.... I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what the food/drink situation will be... NONE! I don't know if it is buffet or sit-down plated meal.

In some ways the buffet would be preferable because I could pick and choose veggies, salad, etc. A plated meal would limit my portions, but it would also limit my choices.

I've already decided on no booze (which will be tough because I am presuming it may be open bar.... or at least flowing wine all night) and no dessert. Fingers crossed that there may be some good coffee and maybe fruit available for dessert.

What would your plan look like??

Kids are off to Music and hopefully that might get some of their energy out! They are in rare form today with talking and misbehaving!

Lunch isn't until 12:30 and I am already really hungry! Glad I brought a filling warm lunch for today..... quinoa with black beans and a side of roasted green beans with a big juicy grapefruit for dessert!

TTYL...........P

Need time to catch up here, hopefully later this morning after my workout, but wanted to pop in and say two things...

1) I lost another two lbs at weigh-in this morning

Quick reply and a quick question.

Question for those on MFP.
As you lose weight, how often do you readjust calories? I'm down almost 20 pounds since starting MFP and I haven't changed my calorie intake. Should I? My weight is coming off slowly but I think it's more of a lack of exercise than diet. Although my diet can use a little tweaking.
My current meal allotment is 310 calories for meals and 105 for each snack. 310 is not a lot to play with but I can cut back in the snack area if need be.

MFP answered my own question this morning when I put my new weight in. It recalculated on it's own.

Fish, usually tilapia or salmon and a steamed veggie, and couscous. All cook in about 10 minutes. I get the kids to tag team and help set the table, get milks, etc.

I was at 1250, it changed me this morning to 1200. I'll cut out 25 calories in each snack and bump up my workouts if I want to splurge.

I am officially in the 170's!!!! Woohoo!!!!!

Got a little derailed today when I went to get my egg white sandwich from Starbucks and she gave me the wrong one (didn't know til I got home and ate 1/3rd of it). They look the same on the outside but this sandwich had feta (yuck!) and spinach but they were settled to the botton so I mostly got flat bread and egg. Til I got the to the feta part. :headache:

Normally that would have completely derailed me but I went back over what I had left for calories for breakfast and found something that would work and not push me over.

And I stopped at the grocery and got lunch so I'm all set there too.

UGH, someone keeps texting me!!! Need to see who it is.

Love couscous!

Good plan!

Hate it when you try hard to make the good choices and are put off course by other's incompetence!

GREAT job getting back on plan!!

Kids are off to recess and then I have lunch duty with them. Hopefully the afternoon with fly by with lots of reading and writing assignments.

I may end up with just a few minutes to chat when I get home, but I will first need to figure out what I am wearing to this event tonight!! Dress? Slacks? Dressy or more casual? I have NO idea!!..............P

How do you guys get past the "I don't wanna exercise today" feeling.

I haven't felt like exercising the last two days and I know I'm gonna pay for it. Today, I don't wanna go to Zumba, but I know I have to.

Any tips to get out of the funk?

I decided a long time ago that IF I had scheduled exercise then unless I was injured or really sick (like running a fever) then I had to go for at least 5 or 10 minutes. If I was really miserable I could then stop, but at least I tried. And only a couple of times where I started when I didn't want to, have I actually stopped.

I saw this quote that sums up it up pretty good I think:

Sore or Sorry. You pick.

Hope you enjoy zumba. :goodvibes

I did a bad thing. ;) Actually it is kind of a good thing. I have been trying to bake a little more g-f stuff lately. To kind of normalize my life. I love to bake. And even though I didn't do much when I was actively losing weight, I did make stuff occasionally and send it to work with Mike or for DS when he was home.

So anyhow, I have been wanting to make g-f cookies with this all-purpose gf flour using the tollhouse recipe. I made them this morning. I have already sent most of them to work with Mike but the rest are like a sirens call. It is pretty cool to make something from scratch again.

Next I am going to try pizza crust. I have just not been able to replicate or find pizza crust that I like and I really, really miss pizza.

So for now I just need to step away from the cookies! :)

I'm riding the pity-party train with you a bit this week..... although I KNOW how I got here and what I need to do to change it. Do you have a plan to get things going in the right direction for the upcoming week??

Yes! More exercise and less crap! Plus, the DH and I usually go to a local wine bar for date night:love: each week. Being a diehard sweet wine drinker, I'd always order more than one glass because it tasted so yummy! As I'm trying to start drinking reds instead, (thank you upcoming Italy trip!), I've been trying a pinot noir that's not so dry that I can't drink it, but not so yummy that I want more than 1 glass. And seeing the roller coaster the numbers have been for the past two months, this is one BIG Tower of Terror drop I don't mind taking!

Can you find out from the people who invited you as to what the menu will be?:confused3

QUOTD-

I'd probably just heat up some leftovers which we always seem to have, hopefully they have veggies in there lol. Sometimes I'll get home after working out then I have to get ready for work and I don't have much time to eat--lately I've been having a ham and cheese sandwich, or I'll have some fruit in the breakroom right before work. If I don't do this then I'm famished when I get home and really over eat.

I'm down 2 pounds this week-- it's what I was hoping for considering the weekend I'm about to have. I hope I can behave myself this weekend but there's too much good food around...and at a St. Patricks day festival--everyone's drinking. If it wasn't priceline I'd cancel. I was up 15 times last night checking on Misty who has decided she's just not going to have kittens. She looked straight at me today and said 'you're crazy if you think I'm going to have those kittens--would You do it?' I said yeah I've done it. She said fine-- you do it then-- and walked off.
I don't know-- maybe it'll take the edge off the waiting...and we will come home if my son thinks she's in labor just to make sure everything's ok. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Yay! I love baking too, glad you were able to find a way to continue doing what you (and enjoyinh the fruits of your labor in moderation :)) I made a non-gf, non-low fat, non-low carb german chocolate cake from scratch last weekend for DF's big birthday... And I had a tiny slice :) Enjoyed and was satisfied :)

I just make myself go. I have never regreted it, but I have regreted NOT going.
