WISH Away the Pounds -- Fantastic February Challenge -- Everyone Welcome!

I just did my plank, modified on my elbows for 20 seconds. OMG, that is hard. Ds did it modified for the minute, and he's going to do it with me every day.

Funny, it reminded him of the BL show where one team was locked in a room, and Bob came and had a deck of cards and threw a card, and each suit was a different exercise, and they'd have to do the number on the card. Ds wants to play that tomorrow. Should earn a few activity points that way.

Pamela-Good luck to dd tomorrow, and enjoy your day!

How wonderful that DS wants to join our plank challenge! :thumbsup2 Tell him there is a prize in it for him if it he does it every day with Mom!

I liked that card challenge from BL. I thought it sounded like fun.... until I saw them all nearly DYING trying to do it all!;)

Did not have a good night tonight. Had a great day, ate well, felt good, but about 4pm I took a nose dive right into over eating. Probably stressed because the kids were not cooperating. All I did was yell at them to pick up their crap. Apparently they didn't get the memo that the maid quit. ( no I don't really have a maid).
I think tomorrow I will start paying allowance in one dollar bills and then start charging them for my maidly duties.

Oh and payback bites. I now feel horrible, physically and I have a headache. Ergh!! No one to blame but myself.
Tomorrow is a new day.

Today IS a new day... it is a GIFT... that is why it is called the PRESENT!

1. Sargento Low Fat Low Sodium String cheese-- LOVE this stuff!
2. Kirkland Plain No Fat Greek Yogurt-- I was putting sf jello powder in it but have switched to just a little Truvia and some vanilla. YUM!
3. Udi's GF white bread -- Yes, technically not a "good carb" but I can still make it work with my plan, especially since it is really the only high carb item I have many days. I toast a piece and put 1/2 T of Peanut Butter on it and eat it on my way to work and it fills me up until my midmorning snack of yogurt.

And as a bonus, my favorite snacking beverage is. . . .Swiss Miss Diet Hot Chocolate mix! ;)

This is a lot of the reason I haven't been able to check in as often as I thought it was. Who would have thought that a school district with an umpteen million dollar budget that puts a HUGE emphasis on Technology and kids using the internet would have internet that moves at the speed of snail. I think the dial up we had in the 90's was faster than the internet at school!

 ::yes:: Have been dealing with that. (gotta love IBS :rolleyes2) I have been adding about 2T of oat bran to my morning yogurt this week and hope that helps.

::yes:: I actually have been. In fact if I am unsure of something I try to overestimate. It is a lot harder to use the online trackers if you cook from scratch and don't use a lot of prepackaged stuff.

I agree! I'm hoping now that I am on WW eTools, it will be a bt easier to figure out the points of my recipes. I'll let you know if I think it is worth the $$

I do think that sodium may affect me. I know if I splurge on Popcorn (which I like with lots of salt) I am constantly thirsty for the next day or two.

That sounds good! I will have to try that. I love to have soups to take for lunch.

I have a cousin that went vegan in high school and her family was very supportive (all though they didn't alter their diets) but my Aunt insisted that she had to see a nutritionist for a while to be sure she was making healthy choices and getting the right balance of things.

I just want to be sure this doesn't end up being a weigh-gaining thing for her! And of course, she needs to eat healthy and get her protein.

:snooty: Well that sucks! Next time tell them you are looking for a dress for Cotillion or a Quinceanera. Make up a cool story about how you are shopping for a dress for an extremely fancy family ball your very rich Great Uncle Harold is having in Paris and it is family tradition for all the young ladies of your daughters age to wear a wedding style dress. Or just pick a date a year or 2 in the future and have fun with DD making up some wonderful imaginary fiance-- perhaps named Phillip or Eric! :thumbsup2

:lmao: We should have. But the fiance would have been named MICHAEL.... as in PHELPS!:rotfl: I was even wearing the diamond solitaire that my Mom gave me for Christmas. I suggested that DD slip it on, but she didn't want to.

Ugh. I am so fighting that battle right now. I am ready to start just confiscating EVERYTHING of theirs that I find in the dining room, living room, stairs, on the floor or anywhere else. Then charging them to get it back. But I don't want their money-- I want their time and effort! They would have to do some heavy cleaning (mop floors, clean toilets, wash windows) to get things back. Maybe DD will stop leaving her textbooks and homework on the couch and her shoes on the floor if she finds out as she is leaving for school her homework is gone and she has to wear flip flops in 30 degree weather. :furious: Haven't actually done it yet but just might snap someday soon!

I've threatened that in the past, but give into the whining. When my kids do need to pay me back for something, I ALWAYS demand payment in the form of labor!

DD12 won a "Superbowl Party" gift basket at school today. I thought it was just going to be a little basket with a few small sodas and maybe little bags of chips and candy. NO! It is a small laundry basket FULL of junk food! Cheetos, Oreos, Little Debbies, Chex Mix, soda etc.. Fortunately for me I actually don't like most of the stuff in it but my kids don't need all that junk either. I guess I may let them stuff themselves silly on Sunday and then get rid of the rest, or at least hide it and ration it out in reasonable portions.

Going shopping tomorrow and running a bunch of errands. DH is running a 5K but it doesn't start until 11am so not sure if we will go with him to watch or just head out shopping and meet up with him later.

No "Healthy Schools" initiative there, huh?? I don't think my school district would allowed to do that.

We got it when DH got his bonus - yes it was a splurge. Bed bath and beyond have a model. I know their coupon says no vitamix but I've heard countless stories of people still using the coupon. Try it and if they say no just say you didn't know and no thanks then.

I've been making all kinds of smoothies and experimenting. Spinach apple lemon cucumber berries was one. A blueberry pear and yogurt is another. That's how the vitamix came about. I heard about the smoothie on dr oz and tried it in my blender and nothing happened! So scraped it out and ate fruit salad. Which was still delish btw (chopped pear, cup of frozen blueberries and some nonfat vanilla yogurt. My kids said it was better than ice cream!

So I research blenders etc and came up w the vitamix. We had a juicer and did it for awhile but it was such a PITA to clean!

It's the absolute best if you can save up for it. I've made soup several times too. I use it almost everyday.

I know that the Vitamix is great, but way too much $$ right now.

My dream dress is an Alfred Angelo Disney dress too!! This one

http://www.theamazingmodels.com/fas.../uploads/2012/11/SLEEPING_218_F_BUST_S12f.jpg

Oh my heavens above! That dress is glorious! I got married in pink myself!

Which one was your DD looking at?

The ones at the salon yesterday were the newest Cinderella Diamond Edition.. they are all pale bluish. Not real fond of any of them. The one she tried on a few years ago was a Cinderella... I'll share a picture later.

Love those Snapea Crisps, can't eat them now due to the carbs, but they sure are tasty!

Your plan with DS sounds great. I have been thinking lately how I never spend one-on-one time with DS anymore... Maybe I will have to make a plan to, but somehow I still think he would rather spend the time with his friends (or his Xbox... which he is only allowed 2 hours of anyway!).

:thumbsup2 Great idea! I may have to use this with the kids AND DF!

*************************

wave Hi all! Happy February! So far it has been a good start to the month, I made it to the Y this am and was OP all day :thumbsup2 Tomorrow I am going to venture out of my comfort zone and head to the Y first thing with a friend of mine to try out a Zumba class :scared: I am very uncoordinated but it looks like fun so... Well maybe they will let us Zumba in the dark is all I have to say :rotfl2:

So after our torture session, um Zumba class, my friend and I are going to see Mama at the theater! Excited about some good quality grown up time to myself :) But worried about the temptation of movie theater popcorn :worried: I will be strong!!

Okay you all have talked me into it... I am off to do my 1st plank of the day, which I am sure will only be a half plank now, hopefullly by the end of the month a full minute!

Enjoy your Y time!

As we are all trying to get our bodies healthier by eating better and exercising, is anyone concerned about other things in our environment? Do any of you use all-natural cleaners at home? How about homemade laundry soaps? Do you wear a seatbelt every day?

WHAT OTHER THINGS DO YOU DO TO ENSURE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH AND WELLBEING??

I took everything too. It goes in the ransom box. Then there is an envelope on the top. Sometimes it has a chore to do, sometimes it has a monetary amount in it. What ever they draw, they have to do to get their stuff back.
I need to break out the ransom box again.

Super Bowl basket is like Halloween. I'd give them something Sunday, then I start tossing a little every day.

QOTD?

I make sure that I have done my yearly checkups, including physicals, mammograms, dentist, etc...I group them all in the winter and try to get them all in before March hits.

As far as "enviromental" issues? There are a few things I suppose.

We do not use fabric softner or dryer sheets.
I use a duster to dust instead of using a chemical.
I wear gloves and/or a mask if needed when I do use chemicals.
I recycle.
I am a horticultural person so my environment outside my window is to do landscaping and grow things that give something back, like shelter/food for birds, bees, and butterflies. I can do without the rabbits & slugs though, just saying.....;)
Also, I am trying to figure out how to incorporate herbs, veggies, fruits into landscaping. I think "edible landscaping" should be something to really look into.

So I must have been doing something right, I'm down a pound this morning. Lets hope it stays down!

QOTD Saturday 2nd Feb 13

I wear my seatbelt every trip, the law says I have to.
I recycle practically everything. Our waste collection gives us 3 bins. One for glass, paper, plastic etc, one for food and garden waste and one for everything that won't go in the other 2. They are collected every other week.

In looking after me, at the ripe old age on almost 50, I have started moisturising my face morning and night. In the last few months, my skin has become really dry. I've never really bothered before :scared1:

I'm eating more fruit and veg than ever, and no processed rubbish...only problem is, the bank balance is starting to notice!!!

I make sure that I get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. I'm working on slowly adjusting other habits, but its only been a week since I refreshed my entire life. I want to be less messy (stay organized) and make more conscious decisions.

Also, I always wear my seat belt. I can't even sit in a parked car without having a seat belt on. I also make sure that everyone else in the car has their seat belt on before I take the car out of park.

Can't wait to hear other responses so I can add more healthy choices to my life.

One thing I make sure we do is brush teeth & floss. I have DSs 9 & 6 (9yo with braces) & we make them brush 3 times a day. With boys those ages, it can be a struggle. Teeth cleanliness is not a top priority for them lol.

We get plenty of sleep, recycle, wear seat belts, wear bike helmets, wash hands, use hand sanitizer, and try to buy Eco friendly products. That's about I can think of right now.

------------------------------------------------------

Hello friends! I feel like its been so long since I've been on here. We got back to the real world Thurs night after being at wdw for 6 nights. It was a fabulous trip. We had great weather (80s) and low crowds. We did everything we wanted to do plus much more. I also ate everything I wanted to eat plus much more :) Luckily, I came home right around the same weight before we left so I was happy with that. We miss it already, especially since its 12 degrees today & we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow :(

Anyhow, I've already been grocery shopping this morning, signed the kids up for swimming lessons, rented a couple movies, and am doing laundry right now. I'm hoping to be done with chores around 1:00 so I can kick back & relax the rest of the day.

I missed the plank a day conversation/challenge, Pamela, but I'm in. I missed yesterday so I'll do it twice today. Is it a minute plank?

Okay, off to get a movie ready for the kids to watch. I'll check in later. Have a great Saturday!

Jill

QOTD
I have a little me time each day. Also we recycle, use natrual cleaners when ever possible and because I live in NYC only mass transportation and walking for me.

I saw Lisa's post yesterday about changing the name of the recipe thread. I am happy to do that if someone comes up with a good name. Not feeling very creative right now. :)

We had homemade pizza last night with almond flour crust and it was not too bad. ;) Glowing review right? I miss real pizza sooooo much. That and regular beer. But oh well. I need to quit my whining. I like the almond flour crust more than anything else we have tried and it was really easy.

Ran 9 miles this morning on the treadmill and my left foot is sore. (Normally it's my right foot that hurts.) Hopefully this is just new shoe issues. This is the longest distance I have run in them and they are definitely different than my old shoes.

Have a great Saturday!

BTW--the picture of that dress--Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. :)

You should be very proud.

And now a little shameless bragging...

In January I ran or walked 101.1 miles in either a workout or race setting. I ran at least 1 mile every day in January. I am really proud of myself!

Hoping the snow stops soon - shovelled earlier and don't want to again. Older DS is off to baseball practice. DD has cheer boot camp (she's hoping to make the JV squad for next year) and younger DS has baseball evaluations today. At least DS16 gets himself to practice now.

Just got back from a 5K. Don't get excited-- we were watching DH run. :cheer2: I caved and ate a roll-- they were the Texas Roadhouse ones that are nearly impossible to resist. It will have to see if it makes me feel sick. I haven't had anything with gluten for at least 2 weeks.

Rose, have you tried the GF crust from Dominoes? I know it isn't truly GF since there is likely cross-contamination but since I can handle small amounts (so far) I am thinking about trying it the next time we order pizza. Just wondering if it is worth it, and worth the price. I think I heard it costs more.

Off to run errands. Will try to check in later.

WHAT OTHER THINGS DO YOU DO TO ENSURE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH AND WELLBEING??

I'm not very good about using all natural products in the house. We do recycle and compost. And I always use my seatbelt.

I've actually decided to try and get my whole self in order this year. Most of my life, but even more so after having the kids, I have suffered from depression. I've never gotten any kind of help for it or spoken to anyone about it but after a few horrible and scary days/nights in January I decided it's high time I do something about this. Just as I decided to get my body in better shape and health for the sake of my kids I need to get my mind right for them as well. So I've gone to my Family Doc to get a referral to a psychologist and I have my first meeting with him on Tuesday. Hopefully he will be able to give me some guidance and coping mechanisms.

I also try to read as much as I can (which isn't a lot with a 5 year old, 1 year old and 4 month old...). I try to read books that will enrich my life (right now I'm reading the art of happiness by the Dalai Lama).

Another thing I've been doing is trying to avoid processed foods. I've become more of a cook since January and try really hard to avoid packaged processed foods.

One thing that I would like to do more of for my well being is spend more alone time with DH, have date nights. However that's pretty much impossible at this stage of our lives. He works evenings because that way he can be home with the girls during the day and we save on daycare. So when I'm at work he's home, then I come home and he goes to work. He also works every 2nd weekend. So basically we only have every 2nd weekend together and of course we like to spend that time as a family. But we do need to find a way to spend more time together just the 2 of us so we can be more of the loving couple we used to be as opposed to co-parents passing in the night! :p

One last area I need to improve on is my sleep. I need to get myself to bed by 9 every night no exceptions. I always say I will but I end up staying up late watching TV (addicted to Downton Abbey at the moment) or cross stitching. The baby is sleeping through the night now (6:30-6:30) so I could get a really good night's sleep if I actually went to bed at a decent time. So that's something I need to work on.

So far I'm really proud of the progress I've made since January 1st. I've been working out 6 days a week and haven't skipped a workout yet and have always stayed on point with WW. I'm down 12 pounds already which is very encouraging. And all the exercise and proper food is making my body and mind feel much better already!

I feel like hibernating too! I think that's why it's so hard to diet this time of year. I think our bodies want to eat heavy foods and sleep. It's hard to beat that biological pull.

Oh, let's see. We really work hard to eat whole foods as much as possible and to not eat a lot of super processed stuff. We make sure everyone is getting their annual preventative health care (including the pets). We garden in the summer using heirloom veggies and don't use pesticides. We recycle. Always wear our seatbelts and make sure the kids and the pup are safely restrained too.

Oh, please treat your depression. I deal with depression as well and I can't tell you how much easier my life is when I'm on a low dose of meds and in therapy. I'm just better all around. If affects literally everything. What a great thing to do for yourself!

We've had breakfast and I did some yoga. I suppose I should clean house, but I just don't want to. I want to head up to see and I may.

Later on this evening, I'll Zumba for a bit and after dinner some combo of us will go to the school carnival. My middle one seems to be under the weather today. Poor bub.

I'm personally hoping that by getting healthier, I ca get off the myriad of depression medications I am on.

 I'm in. I know I kind of fell of the earth in Jan but I have been so busy and tired I just haven't been up to posting. The time I have been online has been spent. . .

wait for it. . .

wait for it. . .

Tracking my food! :badpc:

And I still hate doing it. But since I have the Fitbit and have been trying to analyze what I am doing wrong, and right, I figured I should see what is going on with my intake.

I really am not sure what is going on. I only lost one pound in Jan, and that was a hard fought pound! It is really hard to figure out if I am getting the right balance of things

I've decided I'm going to track just on the word pad and carry a little notepad in my purse. Whenever I have time I'll transfer stuff to MFP and see what's going on really. It's just too time consuming for me to get online and try to figure out what I eat on MFP because I cook so much-- hardly eat anything packaged.
Happy Friday and Happy February!!

I am your coach this week. My name is Pamela and I am happy to be here with you this morning!

QOTD for Friday, February 1, 2013:

What are your favorite top 3 healthy packaged food products? Things that you always keep on hand.... treats that are healthy and low cal/low carb. Anything that is HEALTHY but still delicious and helps you stay on track would qualify!
.................................P

Packaged...hmm. Corn nuts--absolutely love them. Chips. I know--they have a bad reputation but if you really look at the serving sizes you can find good ones that satisfy the junk food urge. I generally look for 14 chips---140 calories is pretty good. Usually I can find lower calorie. Crackers too-- looove triscuits. I've been buying the smaller ones and getting as much out of them. Finding low calorie toppers and dips are a challenge too. I love guac and hummus, cottage cheese and laughing cow.

So far, I'm down 5 pounds from my starting weight and hope to lose 15 more this month. Hoping. 2 lbs a week would be 8. So that's my honest goal. If I can lose 2 every week until my trip, I should be in better shape.

Might go walking again tonight. Dunno for sure.
I know it's easy to get lost in these posts--it's a big group. I know I always appreciated when someone--noticed--I did good. So here I am noticing.:goodvibes

Lol pjlla.

I stay in my stupid job so I have health insurance. I sleep a lot. I try to get as much sunshine as I can (and also take the time to wear sunscreen)
I try to do nice things for others because you benefit as well, even though it's hard to remember that. Your serotonin levels rise when you do something good or nice for people or animals.

Playing catch up today. I actually dug through posts until I finally found the first biggest loser challenge I participated in. When I started I weighed 175 and ended up losing 22 pounds I think. Which is about where I am now. It was really helpful reading through my posts and remembering what was working for me then. I really used movies as a reward and I think I'm going to start doing that again. Frankenweenie's at the cheap theater here still in 3d so I think I'll try for that this week. If I lose a pound I can go see it. There's actually a lot of movies I want to catch up on so this could work. Famous last words...
Anyway if any of you are frustrated right now with the scale just not moving I'd encourage you to look up your posts and an earlier challenge that was working for you...I know there's a lot of regs on here. Have some sun out there today-- so better go catch it. My 'friend' really spent some time and effort to see me yesterday so that made me really happy--this is what's different for me than when I was doing so well before. But knowing the difference helps too. (the difference between now and then)

WHAT OTHER THINGS DO YOU DO TO ENSURE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH AND WELLBEING??

Well...I eliminated most conventional ready-made cleaning products a few years ago and use mostly basic soap and water, vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and peroxide. The holdouts have been laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent. I finally broke down and bought the ingredients to make homemade laundry detergent. Will try that first and rhen venture onto homemade dishwasher powder. I still use bleach about once a week for a white load.

I rarely use fabric softener (liquid or sheets), line dry my clothes whenever possible, never use Glade products (or any kind of household "perfumes"), rarely burn candles, wear my seatbelt ALL THE TIME, and try hard to get at least 7 hours of sleep whenever possible.

We don't use Round Up or other similar poisons on the yard, we garden organically, and try to run the pool and hot tub with a minimal of chemicals.

Things I could improve on include yearly "female" exams and mammograms (very behind on the former and slightly overdue for the latter), more relaxing/me time, taking my vitamins more regularly, and less stressing about things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of life! :lmao:

Next up I need to start looking closer at our personal care products, such as make-up, creams and lotions, shampoo, etc.

Lots of nice healthy things that you do for yourself and your environment. Herbs are easy to add to the landscape for something edible.

So I must have been doing something right, I'm down a pound this morning. Lets hope it stays down!

WOOOOHOOOO!:hyper:

Glad you are moisturizing! I've been doing it daily since my teen years...but I've still got plenty of wrinkles...but I think most of mine are from losing 90 pounds in my 40 's.

It is more expensive to eat healthy, but it is also more expensive to be overweight and/or sick and unhealthy! Pay now or pay later...right?

I make sure that I get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. I'm working on slowly adjusting other habits, but its only been a week since I refreshed my entire life. I want to be less messy (stay organized) and make more conscious decisions.

Also, I always wear my seat belt. I can't even sit in a parked car without having a seat belt on. I also make sure that everyone else in the car has their seat belt on before I take the car out of park.

Can't wait to hear other responses so I can add more healthy choices to my life.

Sleep and seat belts are a huge step into staying healthy! :thumbsup2

Jill

Wish I could get DS to brush 3times a day! I'm lucky if I can get him to do it twice and do an ok job!

I'm so glad you had a wonderful trip! And congrats on maintaining on vacation! Got any photos to share?

Plank a day is whatever you can hold (but challenge yourself) every day for Feb. aiming for at least a minute, but start with what you can do without injuring yourself.

QOTD
I have a little me time each day. Also we recycle, use natrual cleaners when ever possible and because I live in NYC only mass transportation and walking for me.

Jealous of your mass transit! I'm so sick of driving I could scream!

I should share my almond flour flaxseed pancake recipe with you. They are pretty tasty! Where do you buy your almond flour? I buy Bob's Red Mill locally and it is $9.99/lb. it is a tiny bit cheaper online, but I don't want to deal with paying for shipping.

Fingers crossed that your foot feels better tomorrow!

Hoping the snow stops soon - shovelled earlier and don't want to again. Older DS is off to baseball practice. DD has cheer boot camp (she's hoping to make the JV squad for next year) and younger DS has baseball evaluations today. At least DS16 gets himself to practice now.

Sorry you had to shovel...we are practically snow free after this past week's rain, but I'm sure it won't stay like this for long.

How wonderful that all of your kids are so active!

Could you make your own pizza with a GF crust? Might be able to get Rose's recipe!;)

Wow! Double Wow! Sounds like you are ready for a whole body/mind/spirit make over this year! And you are right...getting your body healthy and your food under control will definitely make the mind better!

Poor bub.

Hope your sick kiddo feels better soon!

Good for you for taking care of your depression!

I'm personally hoping that by getting healthier, I ca get off the myriad of depression medications I am on.

Body and mind connection is really strong. Hopefully making the body stronger and healthier will make the mind follow suit!

Okay.... 3 hour drive to Maine is behind me. DD is swimming 3 events and possibly a relay.

Lunch was filling and healthy and I packed a minimum amount of snacks so I wouldn't be tempted to eat for the entire 3 hours. I packed 2 snacks and wrote them in my food journal before I left. I do have one other "just in case" snack with me (100 cal pack of cinnamon almonds) and I'll probably end up eating those about 5pm. Not sure yet what is for dinner. It will depend on whether DD rides home with me or takes the bus.

Wishing I hadn't rushed to get here for 3pm as they are running late and the first event is just going off now at 4pm. :headache:

TTYL...........P

That's what I'm going for.

I got up early and went to the gym for 40 minutes before going out and buying things that will make working out a lot easier for me (a sports bra to wear OVER my regular bra because... the girls are obnoxious), running shoes, better socks... stuff like that.

Unfortunately, I caved and had a turkey and apple panini on sourdough with brie. It might be a bit healthier than McDonalds, but I couldn't stop myself. (13 points, gone in one sitting, but oh so worth it).

Anyways, I wish all of you luck in the coming week!
