Wise words from women in your life?

I was just thinking about this today... what are some wise words that the women in your life have passed on to you?

A funny one was one my mom always said " Its easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission"

She also has had so many wise things to pass down one being " you dont need a man to make a complete person"


So how about the women in your life?

My mom and her sisters were very independant. They had a lot to say, but most of it I can't repeat. Just take my word for it, whatever it was, it was loud. lol

Get over it.

Who needs a man, I'll do it myself. (and they did, from building a little beauty shop, to re-roofing a house.)

My Mother didn't say this though. But a woman did tell me this before I got married. For the most part, that is the way I am, hence, I am exhausted!

"If its meant to be, its meant to be" and "Everything happens for a reason".

Ive learned I agree with both these.

My grandmother told my sister (who was at that time 31 and still single) :

"There are a hell of a lot worse things in life than
not being married...and one of them is being married!"

My grandmother was divorced from her first husband and seperated from her second. She was a real character - and a very independent woman. She was also funny as all get out.

These are from my now departed grandmother. She was the Queen of Bargains/frugal/thriftiness.

I remember going shopping with her, and just browsing with her.


Sometimes she would say stuff in Hungarian as well.. and I would just nod.

Just thinking about this, makes me think of her.

The mother of my sister's friend told me that before you marry someone, ask yourself if you like him. Because loving someone and liking someone are two entirely different things. And that if you wouldnt have him as a friend, maybe you should rethink marrying him.

From my Mom: "No use being rich if you're not happy." I am living proof that this one is true. I'm not rich, and I'm very happy.

From my Grandmother: "Never eat hot foods and drink cold beverages at the same time, it will make you sick." Um, I don't know where she got that from, but she said it all the time. I always drink soda or water with meals, hot or cold and I've never had a problem. It was just what popped into my head when I read the thread.

Asian cultures beleive that mixing hot and cold foods are what cause many illnesses.

My mom told me to always have my own money. She also told me to never depend on 2 incomes. This from the woman who has been married to my dad for 32 years. Good advice though and I do follow it.
