Hey everybody,

So, next week on Friday.. I get to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out, fun huh? Not really. I went in today to meet the dentist who will take them all out, and he seems nice...but I don't really like dentists. I wouldn't say that I'm nervous about getting all of them pulled out. The oral surgeon did say that if something is wrong with some of my teeth after he pulls out my wisdom teeth.. he'll put some kind of bone graph in or something, (I forget exactly what he said.. but it had something to do with bone graphing). I'm just not really looking forward to being put under for anesthesia so I can go to sleep while they do the surgery.

I know it's normal for lot's of other people to get theirs out at the age of 17 or 18, maybe even younger.. and/or older. I was wondering if there were any other DISers here on the DIS TB who have had theirs taken out? If so, what did you eat after the surgery? What do you have to drink afterwards? Did yours heal smoothly? I'm not really sure what I'm in for.. I've had a lot of surgeries in my life, and I've had oral surgery before (had 10 teeth removed and my eye teeth removed at the same time while I was having all of the other teeth removed, and I was put under for that, too).

All I'm hoping for is a fast recovery.

Thanks for reading if you got this far.

I've never had any teeth removed, but i'm sure i'm going to have to soon enough..

As for you,. I hope everything goes smoothly and you'll recover fast. :goodvibes

It's all worth it in the end, right? :)

Eh,, I dont trust dentists in removing wisdom teeth. Thats why i did all four of mine with an Oral Surgeon. They are more experienced!

Good luck! I ate baby food for a week, haha!

Sounds painful! I hope all goes well for you, good luck!
I haven't had my taken out, but I am missing several teeth, so I don't think I will have to have that done.

I had an Oral Surgeon remove my wisdom teeth. I had all four and all four were impacted too. For me I didn't eat the first day after getting them out. Then I started eating jello and drank water. NO STRAWS! Your stitches will come right out. My face was swollen for about a week and a half later. I am so glad that it's a one time only thing for wisdom teeth. It was hard the first few days but then it got better.

I need my wisdom teeth removed. We have to go to the dentist to see when that's gonna happen. (Haven't been in years.. but I was seeing an orthodontist..)
I have had oral surgery before though.
I hope your surgery goes well! :goodvibes

I had all four of mine taken out when I was 14. I'm not going to lie to you, it does suck pretty bad. It will hurt to talk for a few days, and your face will swell up, and you wont really be able to eat any hard foods.

HOWEVER. Its only lasts about a week, and the worst of it is over in 2 or 3 days. (Maybe even less, for you! Everyone's different, this is just what I went through)

The good news is you get to eat a bunch of ice cream and chicken noodle soup and yummy stuff like that (:

As far as actually being asleep when they do the surgery, thats no biggie. They stick a needle in your arm and your out about 30 seconds later. When you wake up, you'll be totally out of it. It'll probably take you a few minutes to be able to walk out. They had a little nap room for me to go lie in while a woke up, hehe.

Overall what I'm trying to say is that yes, its a pretty unpleasant expirience, but its really not THAAAT bad. Honestly, the grossest part was the salt water wash I had to do to clean my mouth. Did that once and then NEVER again. Seriously nasty.

well i'm only 13 and i haven't gotten mine out yet but i'm sooo scared....i've seriously have been scared like all my life!!!! :scared1: and i still freak out when i get any teeth pulled sooooooo yeah scared!!!:sad2::guilty:

I had just turned 15 when I got mine taken out (18 now). I wasn't put under or anything, I just had gas (not laughing gas), I was completely lucid during and after surgery.

As for food, I had a lot of jello. One side of my face was really bruised for a few days after--that was pretty. I just remember it was really hard to drink liquids without a straw while your mouth is swollen. Also I didn't have dissolvable stitches, I had go go in about 2 or 3 weeks later to get them removed.

I had mine cut out almost four years ago, when I was 17. It hurt but it wasn't the worst thing ever. The drugs knocked me out. I had bruising on my face up to a week later.

They say not to drink through straws but I did anyway.

I'm sure it will go fine. Good luck!!

I had mine out when I was 15 and it honestly was one of the worst things I've ever been through. I only had three, all were impacted, but it was still horrible. I had them taken out by an oral surgeon and I was asleep for all of it. When I woke up they moved me into another room and then put me in a wheelchair to move me out to the car. I don't remember the car ride home at all. When I woke up I had a Frosty from Wendy's and went back to sleep. My face didn't swell up too bad, nor did it really bruise. The swelling & bruising only lasted a day or two, which was pretty good. The worst part was the pain after the surgery. I was in horrible pain for at least 3 weeks. I had stitches that were supposed to dissolve after 3-5 days, but they took 2 weeks to dissolve. The holes got infected, which is where the majority of the pain came from.

From what I've heard, either you'll be in a lot of pain or you'll bounce back quickly. I had a friend that was perfectly fine a day after surgery. She had minor swelling, no bruising, and no pain.

Honestly, just try not to worry too much about it. Whatever happens, happens. I was also slightly worried about being put to sleep, but after they inject you, you fall asleep so quickly that you probably won't even have time to think about it.

Good luck :thumbsup2 I'm sure it will all be fine.

Thanks everybody for saying everything. :)

I'm back home resting from the surgery. I got all of my wisdom teeth out, I'm in a bit of pain...but I'm doing ok. I'm having some ice cream right now and a few sips of water.

My entire family got their's late in life, so I'm going to assume that I will as well.
My mother never had to get hers taken out, but I have already been told my orthodontist that at least 3 of the 4 should be taken out.
