Wisdom teeth extraction is medical and not dental?

You are all so fortunate to even have insurance! I had my four wisdoms pulled at once (along with four other teeth, to get ready for braces), and I had no insurance at all. 2 wisdoms were completely impacted. The procedure cost exactly $2000, paid entirely out of pocket. And I stayed awake for the entire procedure, since it would have been an extra $350 for IV sedation! I was more terrified of the anethesia than being awake to experience having my teeth pulled!! :teeth:

DD just had 4 wisdom teeth removed 2 weeks ago and it was on the dental portion of our HMO coverage. They were removed in the oral surgeons office and we needed a referal from our dentist.

I was suprised when my Dentist referred me to an oral surgeon for my son to be looked out since it seems like his wisdom teeth are impacted, and they told me to bring my medical insurance card not dental.
They said they would need a referal from our Doctor. No problem I got it, I just was suprised that it was medical and not Dental.

Same here. I went through alot of crap to get my medical carrier to cover it though - glad you didn't have any trouble.:)

I am getting mine taken out next month and it is being covered by medical insurance. Neither of mine are impacted. I was really surprised that it wasn't covered by dental.
