Wisdom Teeth Extraction - Dry Socket Question

I had my wisdom teeth out 3 1/2 years ago and there are still dents back there. LOL I had holes for a long time and I could stick my tongue in them. I just made sure to rinse well after eating. :)

Awww, man! Dents, I can handle. Holes will not be fun.

Ahh gosh dry socket hurts like heck!! I had my wisom teeth pulled in June, it was a Tuesday, by Thursday I was in so much pain!! I thought I was going to die!! I went back to the dentist, they packed it. On Friday it was even worse than before!! I had to go out of town for the dentist, for some reason the denists' in my town are all off on Fridays :confused3
It was packed again, and prescription for vicodin 10. I was so tired I could not sleep. it was horrible!! I still have a little hole, its really strange. But I was told to use clove oil, oh it has a horrible taste!

you will DEFINATLY know if you have dry socket. it's VERY painful.....even if you're taking medication for pain for the extraction, you'd STILL be in pain from the dry socket. so i'm sure you're fine. but if you're still worried, you should call the dentist and ask, it can't hurt!

Is it like an abscess... or worse? or is it the same thing? i had an abscess once around one of my wisdom teeth and my cheek puffed up and I was in pain. I got it cleaned out with some sort laser at the dentist's....

So far, I've heard worse than: childbirth; having your arms ripped out; and now a gallbladder attack.

I still can't get past the fact that his arms were SHAKING when he was pulling your teeth out!!

If I hadn't have had nitrous oxide going up my nose, I would have probably freaked too. Instead I was like, "Cool... look at that!" :lmao:

So far, still good and I'm almost a week from the extractions. I go back in on Thursday to have the stitches removed and for him to reseat a crown that he knocked off during the process.

I swear I think he put it on backwards. Something is not right. It's hitting before any of my other teeth now.

no no no, an abscess is MUCH worse.....that can actually cause death if it bursts.

make sure you tell him that. he'll probably have to fix it, if you let it go it can cause more problems than you think. but it's really easy to fix.

He knocked a crown off? Between that and his arms shaking....:sad2:

Did he have a knee on your chest too as he was pulling??? :scared1:

I recently had a crown put back on that had fallen off. Same thing as you. It wasn't hitting right. He ground it down so much that there are now sharp edges (which have worn down a bit) and the center of the crown is showing a bit of the metal instead of porcelain. He really messed it up. Long story short, I need a new crown and most likely a new dentist. :sad1:

an abscess is worse medically, it is very serious. A dry socket hurts more since all the nerve ending are exposed but aside from the crazy pain non-infected ones aren't medically dangerous.

I never knew this. :scared: :scared: :scared:

Holy cow - if one wasn't afraid of dental work before this thread, they certainly should be by now.

Am_I_There_Yet, I'll say it again. You are one brave woman to do this without being knocked out. :worship: :worship: :worship: This is one of those times where you 'say yes to drugs'. :scared:

Hope you're doing well today. :)

Not brave, just cheap! I have to afford that bathroom remodel! :rotfl:

I'm fine, by the way... thanks for asking!

 I am a want my cake and eat it too, girl. I was twilighted into loopy land. I vaguely remember babbling (or babbling as well as one can with two hands in her mouth) about Gator basketball. :confused3 I am a freak.

I do admit to having had a couple cavities drilled and filled with no anesthesia.

The sacrifices one must make in the name of Remodeling. :rotfl2: :scared:

I know! Good thing I'm modest about my body.

Just joking!

Okay, that I could never do! I'd be waiting for the pain! I'm going to ask for a shot just so that he can reseat my crown! Right now, that's bothering me more than the stitches. :headache:

Dry Sockets are rough. I had my wisdom teeth taken out about 6 years ago. The first couple of days weren't bad at all. I was eating OK. Pain wasn't bad. About the 3rd night, I woke up and had those dry sockets. Pain was really bad.

I went to the surgeon the next day to have the stitches taken out. I forget the name of the stuff he recommended, but there's some sort of rinse that can ease the pain a bit.

I think my response to Mickeysgal came out sounding really wrong! For the record, I will not sell my body to remodel my house. :snooty:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Glad you cleared that up.

That sure does sound like a tag waiting to happen. :lmao: :lmao:

However, I never said what I would do for a new house. ;)

I'm back from the dentist by the way! For all those paranoid to have wisdom teeth removed, just know there is someone who had three - two lowers - removed and never got a dry socket! :woohoo:

He also ground down the crown a bit and my bite is perfect. Now for that steak...
