I have a westell wireless router for my computer ( have dsl ) . I want to be able to have my son be able to go online on his computer...what do I need to get for his computer so he is able to go online. Do I have to get a westell product or can I get a lynksis thing and exactly what is it called that I need and it's about 35 feet from my wireless router to his computer...do I need a certain type? :rotfl: Help!

Who is your service provider? What you need is called a Net Card. It goes in the back (or side) of your son's pc. (side on a laptop, back of the tower on a desktop) Ask your service provider about getting one, and what type you need.

I have Verizon. I have a wireless card built into my laptop, he's got a dektop. I was hoping I could just go to the store to get one.....

You should be able to just go get one. They are basically a little antenna that sticks out of the back of the pc. You move it around to get the best signal.

We have Verizon DSL and a wireless router, the brand we got is D-Link. So now we are able to be online at the same time on two different computers.

You need a wireless router, linksys or dlink or belkin or microsoft will all work fine. You ALSO need the wireless card they are talking about, your notebook has it built in already. The router plugs into the westell using the cable that now goes to the computer (I am assuming your laptop). The wireless card goes in to your son's computer to allow it to talk to the router. If you can run a cable from either computer to the router you don't need wireless for that computer
Just the card won't do it

You can keep your router seperate from your computers as long as the computers have wireless cards.

You could also hook the router directly to the desktop so you don't need to buy a wireless card for it.

Make sure you lock down your home network too.

Actually my wireless router is hooked up to my desktop, (the kids use that), I use my laptop, so its just for my son's computer in his room that I was wondering about.

Locking down means password protecting. You'll want to make sure you change the router password first. Then you'll want to set up a network password and set it to only allow your MAC Addresses (not mac brand computer).
