We have DSL for our computer, hooked up by ethernet? I think. Ds's were asking about hooking up our Wii for the internet. I did a search and learned I need a wireless router.

Can someone please explain how a wireless router works and what is a good one and where to buy it? Please use simple terms, I'm only sorta computer savvy. ;)

I am nowhere near a pro here, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help out, but I have installed my own wireless routers a couple of times.

A router is a little box that, when hooked up to an internet connection, gives out the wireless connection signals like the kind in hotels, airports, etc., so you can wirelessly connect to the internet.

You can plug your DSL line directly into the router box or into the computer that is connected to the network. There are different settings depending on which way you do this.

Then you can plug in a wireless usb to the back of the gaming system. i just did this with my son's gaming system.

Also, there is a way to secure your network so that anyone who wants to connect to it will have to type in a password.

Your DSL service can provide the wireless service for you, or you can buy your own router box. Either way, you might need to call either your DSL helpline or the helpline for the router box if you are unable to figure it out on your own.

Good luck. Once you do it, you will be able to use a laptop, ipod touch, or anything else with a wireless card to connect to your network. I highly recommend that you secure the network with a password.

Good luck!
