Wireless is here!!

SUPER Excited to see the Wifi!!! I struggled several years ago on their poor internet that was expensive when I had a huge work problem on a vacation.

Now while I don't want to work on vacation I can at least get on and get it over with quicker!!

Great news!

I'm sorry but that's a load of crap. I don't need anybody censoring me. I'm a big boy. Anybody with kids needs to address their on concerns in their own way.

Disney will get an earful from me if this remains true. They don't get to decide where I can and cannot go to.

Actually, I think legally, if Disney is providing the service, then yes, they do get to decide.

I don't like to see sites censored either, but seeing it from Disney's point of view, they are also facing what may be really bad PR if they have a free service available to kids without those "parental control" blocks in place. Imagine the ruckus and media attention if a kid pulled up an adult site on their tablet at Disney.

I wouldn't mind an uncensored wired connection and kid-friendly resort wireless. If adults want uncensored wireless, they can provide their own router and password it so only they and their group can use it. Most of us have been using them for travel anyway. I would hope the wired connection remained active and free for DVCers, as it is currently.

Sure they do -- they're paying for the access. They can offer access or not offer access to anything they want.

If you want or need something different than is offered, you can contract with one of the cellular carriers & pay for your own internet access.

FWIW, I think they will eventually be limiting bandwidth beyond denying access to YouTube & sites like it (if that is true). I wouldn't be surprised if they disallowed streaming or other applications that take a lot of bandwidth.

Wired will remain operational, Wifi will remain free for DVC, but not for others.

So those of you that felt cheated out of your freebie I guess you can feel better now.

And of course always with Disney subject to change.

Who's they, Carol? I've heard ad-nauseum that our dues pay for internet access and that it's not free like many members seem to think.

I guess if you're talking about the new wireless and it remains free to all hotel guests, then yes, technically, Disney is paying for it although it could be argued that it's built in to the price of accomodations.

I guess as long as they don't screw with the wired, I'm OK. I'd just as soon take my own stuff and control my own fate anyway.

Besides, I can always proxy thru my work VPN and use it as a gateway and go where I want to. More than one way to skin a mouse. ;)

They decide which TV stations we are allowed to see, why would the internet be any different.

Maybe only Disney related internet sites will remain free!

More than likely Disney is blocking YouTube to save bandwidth and using the R rated issue as an excuse.

I thought about that so I checked ustream and it is not blocked, although the chat wouldn't load but I have that problem at home sometimes too.

As of this evening, youtube is now accessible.
