I have a document that everytime I open it the computer freezes 10 seconds later. It used to be just fine.

I tried to find it in the troubleshooting and help, but I didn't know what to look for. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Try opening it in wordpad or notepad

Wordpad says and unexpected error occurred while reading it and it won't open.

Notepad says it's too large.

Microsoft Word is frozen again.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but maybe it does.

When I look at the properties the size says 91,179 bytes, and 98,567 bytes used.

Does that seem weird to anyone else.

As long as you can open other files then it will be just that one file. My guess is the file is corrupt and unfortunately there isn't anything you can do if it is. Sorry.

What can I do?

I tried copying it to a disk and it did copy, but now I can't use that either now.

Well, I just deleted it. :( Thanks for the help anyway. :)

I'd copy the text and insert it into a new document.....it's worth a shot, and a lot less typing.

The document is corrupted. THis happened alot to our users. How many pages should it be? If it's 95 MB, that's really large, which means there are lots of corrupted junk in it.

Copy and paste the content to a new file, then delete the original one. But do not use EDIT / SELECT ALL to copy. Highlight the first line, scroll to bottom, hit SHIFT and click the last line. Then click EDIT / Copy. This is the only way to prevent the 'junk' from copying over.

Make sure you scan your PC against virus. That could be the first sign of virus attacks.

adamk is right about the virus issue... it could be a sign although they certainly corrupt without it!
Here is one trick you can try that often works if you have word 2000 or above.
Save the document but pull down the box and save it as an HTML file.
Open the HTML document and save it as a word document again.
If it is an important document that you can't afford to lose you can try these guys
Word recovery
Don't give up though there is almost always some way to get the data back.

Thanks guys. It wasn't really important. But I copied your suggestions so I don't forget for next time.
