I'm in southwest Virginia. They are calling for over a foot starting this afternoon. The kids were released from school 3 hours early today, and not even a flake has fallen yet. Just waiting!
Last week we had record breaking cold temps and snow was predicted as we transitioned out of it, but we never saw a flake. We were up in the high 50s this week. We usually get a little snow every winter, but rarely in December.
eta: minniecarousel, my husband grew up within view of Mt. Diablo, too. He has fond high school memories of kids driving pick-ups up there and bringing back snow for snowball fights!
It flurried here all day a couple weeks ago, but hardly any of it stuck so the kids didn't get to play or miss school. We are forecasted to get snow starting tonight and lasting until Sunday with 12+ inches of accumulation. We are breaking out our inner tubes and we all got new boots today (on sale for 50% off!), so we are ready to go!
We've got about 1 1/2 feet of snow, with drifts of about 3 ft in spots. It's not going anywhere anytime soon, and we are expecting flurries for the next few days.
Measurable snow twice.. I think the first time was the first weekend in December - then that "Monster Storm" that was out west arrived here and dumped an additional 8 inches on top of what we already had.. Now they're predicting a storm for late Saturday night into Sunday afternoon, but I haven't heard how much..
No more worries about the power going out though.. As I'm typing this, the truck has just arrived with the generator my Dson-in-law purchased on Monday..
I got a phone call from my daughter this afternoon. She and her family just moved to Cary, NC in July. She was telling me that it was snowing and actually accumulating. Her husband called her from his job and said get packing, we obviously haven't moved far enough south yet.
All I could do is chuckle. She didn't see the same humor in it. I told her that here in Vermont the sky was blue and the sun was shining bright. I did somehow forget to tell her that the temperature this morning was 1 below zero F. I don't know how I could have forgotten to mention it...I must be getting old.
Someone asked for a picture of snow. This is today at around 3 pm in South Asheville, NC. It was about 6 inches then, and we've probably gotten another 5-6 inches. Expecting more tonight and it is currently sleeting. BLECH!
OOPS that's a small picture. I'll see if I can make it bigger.
ETA: won't work, because of the upload, but hope you can see your snow.
