Winter break or Spring break???

Hi there, I'm a newbie to posting although I've read through these threads for previous trips. :)

We are considering heading down to Disneyland/DCA toward the end of Winter break which would put us in the park on January 3, 4, 5 and possibly the 6th (but only for a couple of hours on the 6th). Do you think it would be ridiculously crowded during that time considering school is usually still out for most kids then?

Or, would spring break be a better time? Our Spring break is the first week of April.

We won't be taking our son out of school to go, so school vacations are our only option. Thanks!

With regards to crowds I think it will be about the same. The biggest differences between the two times will probably be atmosphere and weather. If you go at the end of winter break, the holiday decorations and the IASW and HM holiday overlays will still be up. Weather will likely be cooler in January. Rain could happen at either time of year but is less likely in April although there was a pretty freakish downpour at the end of spring break this past year. The only other thing to consider is that Big Thunder Mountain is rumored to have a major refurb next year. According to these rumors, it's much more likely to be down during the April dates than the January dates although it could be both. Again, that is strictly a rumor but if for some reason that ride is a dealbreaker for you, it's something to consider.

Thanks! Big Thunder being down is a deal breaker since my 5 year old is obsessed with that ride!

oh, and also, about 10 years ago (before kids!) my husband and I went to Disney and were rained on during Spring Break 2 out of 3 days. I actually don't mind rain at all since it keeps the crowds away. :)
