Winter Break Dates 2012???

We usually go to WDW in first week of January (letting the kids take off the first week after the Christmas break). We scheduled the same this year, but now it seems that most schools are letting kids out Dec 24th this year, with the break ending January 6th.

Is that true for your kids school? what part of the country are you from?

You can expect heavier crowds this year compared to what you're used to, given what days of the weeks the holidays fall on. Most are reporting that their children don't return to school until 1/6.

Its not just dependent on the state but the school district.My district in PA is only out till Jan 2 , but there are 2 nearby that are out till Jan 7th..There is at least 2 threads out on the board right now about what schools go back when.Consensus has many many schools out till JAn 7th

My kids are out Dec 21 thru Jan 8. We are in metro Atlanta.

Our School district in Western PA (each school district in the state set their own calendar, state just says 180 days) has never had more than maybe one or two days after Jan 1 off or before Xmas Eve. If Jan 1 falls on a Thursday they will get Friday and if Xmas Eve falls on a Tuesday they will get Monday off, but thats about it.

There is one year in I guess every 7 years where the kids get that extra day.

I've always said this, "Where do school districts find days in the year to have a full Fall, Winter and Spring break. Ours is two days Thanksgiving (sometimes the Monday after for first day of hunting season), around 9-10 days (Xmas Eve to NY Day including the weekend) and maybe 2 days before Easter plus all the Federal Holidays.

I don't get it either and I am in Central PA..We get bare minimum off, I am not sure how 2 districts near me are off till the 7th, but they are.

Just checked my schools calendar.

The first day off for Thanksgiving is the Wednesday before, the Monday after is inservice.

Xmas holiday, first day off Dec 24 last day off Jan 1.

Spring break, Wednesday and thursday before easter are two different inservice days Monday after is the last day off.

These are the only multi day breaks. First day back Aug 27, last day June 4.

For years the first day back was day after labor day. Messed up a few WDW trips that first year (almost mine)

Our township (IN) is off from Dec 21 to Jan 6th. They get two full weeks. We'll be down in WDW until at least the 30th, possibly through the new year.

I homeschool but our district has a much shorter and later break this year due to when school started. They get off right before Christmas but have two full weeks off- so that would mean Jan 7th. (Last year, they were one day shy of 3 weeks off!)

WOW! I would not like being in school literally right up until Christmas. Although, I do think we get out ridiculously early this year. We are out Dec 19 and go back Jan 2.

Its been that way forever. Even back when I went to the same school 30 years ago.
