This is not the most important question ever, but DH and I were discussing it. The evening we get on the ship (5/15/04) there is a Winston Cup race on FX. Will they have that channel in the ESPN lounge? Or in the room? We thought it would be pretty neat to watch the race in the ESPN lounge drinking a beer, but I began to think, it is the "ESPN" lounge, maybe not?? Does anyone know?

Well first off if you are doing a 7 day the ESPN skybox is gone. It is still on the Wonder, but it was taken off the Magic in drydock last year.

I don't think the ship carries FX in the rooms. They may put it on in Diversions (it is the new sports type bar that is where Off Beat used to be). Good luck - we love Nascar too!

We werent able to watch the the race on our may sailing. It was a little bit of a bummer, but oh well........We were on the MAGIC! We are huge NASCAR fans, but now that I think of it I dont think I would have wanted to spend 4 hours watching the race anyway when I could have been basking in the sunshine or enjoying other things on the ship. Dont worry you wont miss it. :D
PS its now the NEXTEL cup. lol. I was watching Junior on Larry King the other night and he also said the wrong word. It is going to take a long time to get used to it, it was the Winston Cup for SO LONG! Not trying to give you a hard time, just funnin' with ya.:D

:earseek: ACK! I didn't know there was no ESPN box on the Magic, I just assumed there was because we went to it on the Wonder! What is up there on the Magic?

The teens club took over that area and they call it The Stack.

The teens club has been done over to be Cove Cafe an adults only coffee house.

LOL, I agree!! If it was a day race I wouldn't watch it, but I saw that the Saturday we get on the ship is the night race in Richmond! I thought that would have been real neat after dinner to watch! Oh well. And it will take me most of this year to STOP calling it WInston Cup, LOL!! ::yes::

I too am a big NASCAR fan and was bummed when I found out that the ship does not carry any of the channels that carry the races and missed out on the night Bristol race last year, but, I've remedied that problem this year, got XM Radio and plan to bring it on board as to not miss the Bristol race this year ..... Yeah, Bristol under the lights is a bit more of a bummer to miss, but just keep reminding yourself where your at. :D

We may have found the one flaw in a 7 day cruise - there is tremendous potential to miss TWO 'cup races! Maybe THAT is why I own 5 VCRs and TIVO.

We are right there with you Bill (except for the TV). We always have a long list of taping to be done when we vacation during race season.

Last October we were staying at our Boardwalk home and DH brought a tape so he could tape the race (they have VCR's in the villas) while we were at the parks and we relaxed and watched the race that night. The best of both worlds - Disney and Nascar!

We once saw a truck race on the Magic, but that was back in the days when ESPN was still covering them.

That brings up another slightly OT point. Why in the world did NASCAR allow the Craftsman Truck Series to go to Speed Channel? IMHO, the lack of potential viewers/followers will eventually kill an already struggling series that in reality has merit and appeal.

Tink:

Maybe we can take over the TV and force them to show it!! We will be on there with you!!

The ship would have to get ESPN Classic to see a Winston Cup race. If you pay for the internet package on the ship, you can use NASCAR Track Pass to listen to/follow the Nextel Cup race that way. By the way, the internet computers are in a bar area.

Yeah! Mutiny for NASCAR!!! Take over the ship!!

We are on the March 20th cruise- we will miss the Darlington race. But at least we will get to see Bristol the next week!
