Someone suggested a week ago that you can apply for a Winn Dixie store card when you arrive and get savings while shopping. FYI, I just went to Winn-Dixie.com and applied on line and the card will be mailed to me within 7 days.

we were in the "world" in May 2002 and we went to winn dixie, i applied at the register and got the card immediately! i still have it in my wallet... guess i should plan a new trip!!!:smooth:

Where is this new Winn Dixie, and does anyone have an estimate for a cab ride to it from Beach Club Villas?

I don't usually see much point in the rewards/savings programs from grocery stores. Never found much benefit in the past, but I have been using my Winn Dixie card & it truly is saving me a decent amount of $. I was truly surprised to see my total for Turkey Day dessert shopping go down from $35-$22 the other day! WOW!!!! SOOOOOO worth it!!!

The new Winn Dixie is on the same road as the Crossroads shopping center where Goodings is located. If you're exiting out of the Hotel Plaza (Grosvenor, etc are on this road) at the Crossroads, you would make a left and travel about a mile or two.

Not sure about the taxi. I always take my car.

To expand on the above directions... I love using http://www.mapquest.com/directions/ to help me plan my excursions when I'm going to Orlando.

This Winn Dixie is located at
11957 South Apopka Vineland Rd
Zip Code is 32836

The Walt Disney World Swan Hotel is located at
1500 Epcot Resorts Blvd
Zip Code is 32830

(sorry, I don't have the Beach Clubs address handy)

Plug in those addresses and it says it's less than 6 miles to the Winn Dixie from the Swan.

Basically, from the Epcot area, take E. Buena Vista Drive toward Downtown Disney, it's under 4 miles away. You'll pass DD's Westside, Pleasure Island and finally the Marketplace area. When you get to Hotel Plaza Blvd, take a right. It's less than a mile from there to 535. (At this point, if you were to go directly across 535, you'd be at the Crossroads and see the Goodings supermarket on the left - This is also where you are leaving WDW property) To get to the Winn Dixie, turn left on 535 which will basically turn into South Apopka Vineland Rd. The Winn Dixie is less than a mile from Hotel Plaza Blvd on the right hand side of the road.

If I remember correctly, there is a Walgreens in the same area. You'll also see lots of restaurants along 535, including Red Lobster, fast food places, IHOP, Perkins, Jungle Jims, etc.

We have generally shopped at the Publix on the corner of Routes 535 and 192 or the Super Walmart on 192 near Medieval Times, trying to avoid the outrageous prices at Goodings. Not having any Winn-Dixies in our area, I am curious if they are comparable to Publix or Walmart or are they closer to Goodings price-wise?
Thanks,
Ted

We used Winn Dixie for our shopping a couple of years ago on Marco Island and we loved it compared to the Publix.:D They have a great deli with subs, salads etc.;) Oops and really decent prices too!
