In Birnbaum they say that there is a Winn-dixie and other convenience stores near Disney resorts.

We'll be staying at POR.... where can I find out exactly where these stores are?

Is it possible to walk there? Or how much would it cost me for a taxi?

But would I be able to walk to it from Downtown Disney?

NO!

The only place you can walk to from DTD is either Hess Express across the street, or Goodings a mile down the road and across a VERY busy intersection.

IMHO Winn-Dixie is expensive and dirty. I'm not a fan of Goodings either.

I prefer Publix, Kash& Karry, or Albertsons. You'd need a cab to any of those.

Winn-Dixie is a grocery store. I don't think their expensive, but will agree they tend to be dirty and I won't shop there. The Hess station is your best option as it is in the resort area. Not someplace you'd want to walk to though, but a quick cab ride if you are without a car.

Huh? The Hess Station across from DTD is an easy five minute walk from the PI bus stop, and has a cross walk. It's perfectly safe to walk there.

If you are going to take a cab (and I dont know anything about how expensive cab fares are and how much difference it will make) anyway, there is a walmart not far once you get off disney property like between 5 and 10 minutes, and on the way there I passed 2 publix stores... What kind of items are you looking for? you can get a lot of stuff actually in the resorts (for a premium).

That would be the Four Corners Wal-Mart in south Clermont. The closest WDW point to it is the AKL. From there it's a 10-15 minute drive, depending on traffic.

I was thinking of the Hess station on the corner Buena Vista Drive and Epcot Resort Blvd. Near the resorts. I wouldn't walk there from the hotel. Not because it s not safe, just too far.

Unless you're tryong to tote three cases of water, two large pizzas and a case of beer back, it's actually a pretty short walk from the BW to that Hess Station.

Both of those Hess Stations are very convenient - the one across from the Boardwalk and from DD, if you are in either area. I know the one across from DD has very good priced pizza specials too!

Winn Dixie is not a convenience store - it is a grocery store, and not one I will go to. Publix isn't far, maybe 4 miles from Downtown Disney. They always have GREAT baked goods, chicken, sandwiches - and the Publix is right across the street from the mall with the Character Premiere Disney outlet.

OP is staying at POR, not BW. If your toting water and stocking up on soda. It will be easiest to take a taxi to one of the Hess stations. If it is for small stuff, you might just want to buy it from the resort. Again, this all depends on what you are wanting to buy.

You may also want to look into delivery services like the garden grocer.

She'd asked about Winn Dixie - and definitely Hess would be much closer for getting convenience-store type items. Some people have mentioned taking a bus to DD, walking across the street and picking up items there - but I've read a lot of good things about the Garden Grocer (it depends on if money or time is most important). I'm cheap, so I tend to be the "get on the bus and walk" type person.
