I have a crazy question, but here goes ... This past December, I had a great South African wine at Jiko, and I was just wondering if and where are the best places I could look for a bottle of it on our next trip. Is it possible that I could find it at all on property? I have checked and it's not available where I live. We'll be there for F&W. Are there special spots to buy bottles of wine during the Festival? I know it's not possible that every wine on every wine list at WDW would be available for purchase, but I'll sure look for it, I'm just not sure where to start.

Part 2 of my plan is ... how do I safely pack a bottle of wine in my checked bag?

And for part 2: I'd ask about having it shipped directly to your home/other destination. I trust as little as possible to checked luggage.

Thanks! Unfortunately, it's illegal in Mississippi to have alcohol shipped to you, and that includes wine. Stupid law. I know I can't order wine online, probably same rules apply for shipping to yourself on vacation, but I will check into it. I'll have fun hunting for it anyway. I still need to make a trip up to TN to check some stores in Memphis, so I'm not hanging all my hopes on the upcoming WDW trip. it was just a thought. Perhaps F&W will up my chances of availability.

Your only choice is to wrap it well and put it in the checked luggage.

Depending on what wine it is, it's possible that Jiko is the only place to carry it in the entire U.S.

For wine from Jiko, the best place is going to be the Zawadi Marketplace upstairs at Animal Kingdom Lodge. And, as has been mentioned, there is at least one wine at Jiko for which Jiko bought out the entire run of that wine just for the restaurant.

The wine is Cederberg Bukettraube, which isn't rare or terribly expensive as wines go I think. I just can't get it here.

I've seen these really nifty reinforced bubble wrap wine shipping plastic 'envelopes'...in the shape of a wine bottle (naturally) that let you slide the bottle in and then seal it perfectly from the bottom. I've been told they work really well and cost only about $3.25. I'm going to grab a couple just in case we decide to bring wine home. I will still put the entire thing in an XL ziploc in the event of a problem, 'cause I'm cautious like that.

I have a bottle of that sitting in the wine rack right now, purchased from Zawadi Marketplace following the Wednesday Wine Tasting at Jiko back in May. I highly recommend that Wine Tasting event if you are a fan of wine. The Buckettraube was one of the wines offered for tasting.

And here I hadn't planned to go to AKL at all. I bet DD would enjoy just seeing the place. Maybe I can talk DH into just a visit here on our AK day. If I don't make it over there, do you think I could buy it over the phone and arrange for Zawadi to send a bottle to Beach Club gift shop for me to pick up? We won't have a car.

Ack! So sorry. It was actually purchased at the Jiko bar. That is one exclusive to Jiko. I don't know if they'd do resort delivery, but it can't hurt to ask.

You should be able to find online something called a Wine Diaper. It is a cushioned bag that you put the wine in. The nice thing is it is lined with absorpent paper. If the bottle does break and leak it will not get all over your luggage. I have used it twice and never had breakage. I think it costs about $5.
