Wine... The good stuff, not complaining!

Cant beat Boones LMBO!!! Whew that brings me back to college . Prob would throw up now lol.

My favorite wine brand right now is Menage a Trois. Love the red, it is a blend, not dry at all.
Runs about 10 a bottle.

I agree with others, start with a blush.
I've seen that wine in the store... the name made me :rotfl: Is it truly good? Do they make any reds NOT as a blend? (I forget...)

Okay, when I was younger, like under-age, we drank Boones Farm all the time, I didn't even know that was really even wine... see I am not educated at all with wines.

I think I will try a white and blush both organic. That will give me an idea if I can drink them. Then I will try a red organic.

I am actually getting excited to try them. Worse case scenario is I can cook with them if I can't drink them.

It is probably safe to say that the organic wine will not be along with the buy a bottle, get the second for a $1.00 special the wine store is having right now?:lmao:

We are starting to go wine tasting pretty regularly. We live in a great area for tastings. :)
We went last Saturday actually, came home with a LOT of wine. Even a Merlot that was really good and had the Cab not been $55 a bottle I would have that too. :) We just started drinking wine not too long ago, DBF's parents ARE wine snobs (complete with a wine cellar in the house LOL) but we just like what we like. We don't try to pair certain wines with certain foods, we just like what we like. :) We really like Beringer White Zinfindel, it's very good and fruity. And it's like $5 a bottle! :) We also really like a couple that are harder to find, you actually have to buy them from the wineries directly, they don't distribute to stores. Peju Provence which is a blend of 52% white and 48% red, it's very good and just over $20 a bottle. :) My absolute favorite is V Sattui's Gamay rouge, also a blend and sooooooooooooo good.....both of those are amazing with pastas. But start with something like Arbor Mist or a White Zin then grow from there. Reislings are very good, we have 3 or 4 of those right now...oh and Muscato/Muscat, these are extremely sweet dessert wines, very good. :)

It is not good, it is cheap cheap cheap, think big nasty hangover lol. But as a youngster who should NOT be drinking we thought it was great.

There are reds out there that are not blends.

Ménage à Trois Red is a blend of zinfandel, merlot and cabernet. Love it, so light.

I love "real" wine too but you just can't beat Arbor Mist for flavor! We call it our soda pop wine. In fact DH and I killed a bottle of it tonight - with tacos! It was the sangria flavor so that's authentic, right? ;)

I never was a wine person, from the time we all passed around the Boone's Farm in the Toyota Corolla Wagon with 8 girls, to the wine tastings at the local winery on Sundays, I would usually be the designated driver since I didn't like the flavor.
But over at St John's Pass, a shopping center in St Pete... They have a wine shop that makes a frozen "Winarita". Yumm! they have flavored wines that they mix with fruit syrup in one of those frozen drink makers. I bought 6 bottles of wine and 6 bottles of the fruit syrup and make them at home. Not as good since I don't have a frozen drink maker but still yummy.
The ones at the wine store are almost as good as the Fiesta Margarita in Mexico.

A nice Riesling would be great - sweet but not too sweet. Wish I had some right now :)

Agreed! Last week DF brought home a bottle of "Relax" - dark blue bottle - it was very good ;)

Beringer has a nice medium sweet white zinfandel (a lovely pink color), it tastes like strawberries.

I really do not care for this one..... bitter tasting IMO.

OP - I didn't care for wine until I tried a spritzer... Ice, wine (try the Riesling above), and sprite zero :thumbsup2

That reminds me.... need to have DF to bring home another bottle tonight

I have tried all my adulthood to acquire a taste for wine, but I just never have. I have fairly refined tastes in food and coffee and love fine whiskey too.

I sometimes like to drink red wine mixed with 7-Up. Champagne with Chambord or orange juice in it is good, and I'm crazy about the sangria the Portuguese restaurants in this area serve. But regular "good" wine staight-up is something I just can't dig.

Like most people I would recommend starting with something not too dry with fruity as opposed to Earthy tones.

I don't drink much but when I do it is almost exclusively wine. Now, I like dry reds which most people don't start out with.

My recommendation would be to find a wine bar in your area that has a wide selection and offers flights. If you don't know flights are usually series of wines that are about 1/3 or 1/4 the size of normal servings. Some places will offer what I would refer to as themed flights like "sweet whites" or "fruity reds". This will give you the opportunity to try a wide range of flights and determine which you like. It is much easier and less expensive (though not always as fun) as buying bottles you may or may not like and finding one sip in that you will not be drinking the rest of the bottle.

Once you find a wine you like the sommelier can make recommendation for other wines you might like. Also, avoid thinking that price indicates quality. I have had some very good $7 dollar bottles of wine and one very average $1,000 bottle before so buy the wine based on the grape variety and region, not price tag.

If you like sweet, Moscato D'Asti is my fave. Super yum.
Yes, our new favorite. We just found bottles of our favorite brand at the wine shop at BJ's for $4.99 per bottle. Still more expensive than soda, but not by much. ;)

Ask at the wine shop. There should be someone on staff who can point you in the right direction with the info you gave here. Don't pay more than $10 a bottle when you are trying to find a wine you like.

I can't drink cabs because of headaches, BIL can't drink anything French, DH can't drink any reds. It's an individual thing. Have fun and find what you like!
