I see lots of reviews of Mixology, and it looks like a lot of fun, however, we have adamant non-mixed drink folks in our group. Has anyone done the wine or champagne tastings? Are they fun? I've never seen any reviews or comments about them.

I can tell you they do do them I have had friends do them on longer cruises.

They very much enjoyed them.

Did the Stern to Stern wine tasting last year and it was a lot of fun. I'm not very deep into wines, but can appreciate a good glass. You will have 6 glasses of nice wine, which makes the cost worth it. We had a table with 4 sets of glasses set up, but only 3 participants. We didn't wast the 4th set  Don't expect very exclusive or extremely rare and expensive wines. Disney caters for the masses. You may want to eat something before joining to avoid some personal "rocking the Ship" princess:
I did meet several people during the tasting and talked to them later in the cruise. So it's also a nice way to meet new Disneyfriends.
Never did a champagne tasting, so can't comment on that.

I really liked the Champagne tasting. I thought it was well worth the money.

I learned a lot, including how expensive it can be to drink good Champagne. Trust me, the cost of the entire tasting was cheaper than me deciding to buy a few individual glasses during the cruise. Wow.

Afterwards you might be a little hesitant to purchase certain brands. I've been known to say... "What, who are these Asti and Andre people you speak of". :snooty:

:rotfl:

We always do the wine tastings and really enjoy them. Both DH and I enjoy trying new wines and this is a nice chance to do so. For the amount of wine you are given it's a super value. Sometimes they have separate sessions for old world wines and new world. Sometimes they combine them into one session. It's a lot of fun.

I did the Wine and Chocolate tasting on the Fantasy...lots of fun. Hoping to do champagne on my next cruise.

We always do as many tastings as we can get into, except Beer. We're total beer snobs so no beer on the ship. We've done the Stem to Stern, Champagne, Old World Wines, New World Wines. All are great fun. They are usually run by one of the higher ranking sommeliers on the ship so you'll learn a lot and get a bit tipsy for a great price.

I did the champagne tasting on the Fantasy. I was surprised at how much there is to learn about champagne. I really enjoyed myself and felt like it was money well spent.

Champagne tasting on the Dream. I have never tasted such wonderful bubbly. No going back now. $$$ well spent and a romantic afternoon in Pink with my husband. Highly recommend!

Wine tasting was fun and good value! It was a little rushed maybe because there were too many people and some were chatting louder than the sommelier lol but I still managed to learn a few new things that help me appreciate wine a little more, and identify characteristics I like or don't like. of course my friends and I had a blast drinking so much wine!

We've done the wine tasting twice, tequila tasting twice, martini tasting, whiskey tasting, beer tasting, mixology, and champagne and enjoyed every one. We've always managed to miss the cognac tasting so I'm hoping to get into that one next month. I now drink tequila and whiskey, something I never would have tried on my own and have been known to indulge in the occasional martini. I second the PP who said to eat something beforehand however. DH wanted to be able to make some of the drinks from our mixology tasting so I made him put on the recording feature of his phone because after the first two drinks, I'm not even sure I could have told you what we drank never mind how to make it.

What kind of martinis did you make? Gin vs vodka or foofy ones?

You don't make any martinis in the martini tasting - they just give them to you. From the fuzzy haze that is my memory of the martini tasting, there was a gin martini, vodka martini and dirty martini variation, appletini, crème brulee martini and a muddled cucumber one. But I think it's different every time depending on who is doing the class.

Can anyone tell me what's the cost of the:
Wine Tasting
Champagne Tasting
Whiskey Tasting

Is it a flat fee (like all classes are $20) or do the fees vary depending on the class?

Cruise is 8/31 and I would like to have a few things to do on our At Sea days if our boys go to the Kids Clubs

We have always done the wine tastings in the past and enjoyed them. As I stated earlier in this thread they often had several different ones featuring different types of wine throughout the cruise. Fast forward to our latest cruise in June/July. Over the entire 11 days they only offered ONE wine tasting and it was scheduled while we were at port. Go figure. They had numerous liquor tastings and a champagne tasting, but only the one wine tasting at a time when most people weren't even on the ship - us included. We were bummed. We aren't liquor drinkers and DH isn't very fond of champagne. Every wine tasting we had ever gone to was full, or almost was anyway, so I would think the demand was there. It seemed so odd that on an 11 day sailing, that was all they offered. I noted it on my comment card at the end of the cruise.

We also try to do at least one wine tasting on a cruise as we really enjoy them. In March we did two: New World Wines and Old World Wines. While the structure of the tasting can vary, you'll still learn quite a bit about the wines available on the ship. On this cruise it was a blind tasting - we were asked to identify the type of grape and location (while being given lots of hints and clues). Our downfall is that in the MDR that evening we usually order a bottle of wine that we particularly liked at the tasting.

I've only done the whiskey tasting once. I was familiar with all the offerings so was disappointed in not being introduced to something new. DW likes martinis so we did one of those tastings once. Didn't do much for me but DW really enjoyed it as she not only got to drink hers but mine as well.

I did the champagne tasting and the cognac tasting in Feb and enjoyed both. I am very hesitant to do the wine tasting as I do NOT like white wines at all - if they did a JUST REDS tasting I'd be all over that, but whites are WAY too sweet for me to find them enjoyable.
