Wine Glasses and Cork Screw ?

I read on the DVC member site the list of items in the kitchens . It list just glasses , are there more than just drinking glasses ? Specifically wine glasses? Also is the corkscrew usually in the kitchen? ( I mean its not usually missing? )

Yes. A 1BR or 2BR at any DVC resort has 8 wine glasses (stemmed glasses) and a corkscrew. The wine glasses aren't as elegant as what we have at home, but they're sturdy and can go in the dishwasher. If the corkscrew or any other kitchen item is missing, all it takes is a phone call to housekeeping and you'll have it quickly.

If you prefer to bring your own corkscrew, you can bring it in checked or carry-on luggage, according to the TSA website.

And for letting me know about calling for an item. In the past we had done without for not knowing to call down and get a replacement .

The corkscrew is a pretty basic one as I recall - not even a wing style. You may want to bring a sommelier knife or some other type of corkscrew if you need leverage (I need leverage to open a bottle of wine).

Not for some of us. I am pretty pathetic at opening wine without at least a wing corkscrew. If I get the really cheap type (you know the ones where you screw the metal part in and put the end through the hole and pull) ALL bets are off. For this reason I travel with my OWN corkscrew. (I take it everywhere. The TSA has learned to allow these "Dangerous" times )

Yes to the wineglasses and just ask for the corkscrew... but there was this one time.... first, check the drawers twice and the top of the bottle once.
We were at the Boardwalk as usual and had bought what I thought was a nice bottle of wine at the grocery store downstairs. I was unpacking in the bedroom when a frantic shout from my cousin in the kitchen that she could not find a corkscrew and really needed that wine!
I immediately called housekeeping... only to call back two minutes later to have them disregard the previous call... not only had my daughter located that corkscrew but dear cousin realized it was a twist off cap.

Our most recent room at BWV had two corkscrews in a kitchen drawer — a cheap wing type corkscrew and an even cheaper combination corkscrew bottle opener.

That wasn't a twist-off cap; that was a Stelvin closure.

I wish all wines had twist-off caps — I mean Stelvin closures. (And I don't work for Alcan.) It's so much easier to open. And wines are never ruined due to bad corks.

+1 I bring/buy a box myself but usually bring a glass from home. Since we drive, we just bring what's left home. The box keeps the wine very fresh for extended periods.

And as mentioned before, studios: corkscrew, no wine glasses.

p.s. Any "Blues Brothers" fans here. I flashed back to Jake and Elwood at the fancy restaurant and Elwood presents the glass to be filled and the stuffy waiter retorts, "wrong glass, sir", where as Elwood sticks it out to be filled in any course with a come-on shake of the glass (to go ahead and fill it). (Big smile)

Oh, they'll bring up wine glasses? That is so great. I thought I was going to have to bring some (I didn't want to have to pack them in my checked luggage, but can't do the water glass thing, either )
