Wine and Dine - What were host hotels?

And how difficult was it to get where you needed to go if you weren't staying at one? In general transportation isn't a huge issue as my sister or running partners live there, but just out of curiosity...

I just discovered that we'll be out the Thursday and Friday of the race weekend thanks to Rosh Hashanah - so that just made it a lot more appealing - I can do a mini-vacation!! (And probably take Monday as a personal business day!)

The resorts were:
All-Stars Resorts (Movies, Music and Sports)
Port Orleans Resorts (French Quarter and Riverside)
Boardwalk Resort
Beach Club Resort
Polynesian Resort

I really can't address your question about how difficult it was to get to where you needed to go if you weren't staying at one. We stayed at the Boardwalk, which was not originally part of the official resorts. I had planned to walk over to the Beach Club and catch the bus from there, but lucked out when Disney added the Boardwalk.

Does anyone know if Disney will only have select hotels again for the Wine and Dine race? or if they will open it up to more resorts for 2011?

My parents did the relay half this past year and I didn't hear any complaints about getting to either starts, but I did hear they held the buses transporting the first runner to EPCOT because they needed to wait for all the runners to get past AK. My mom sat on the bus for a while, but she said at least she was sitting and had refreshments from the goody bag.

Let me say hello and that I am a newcomer to these forums and to the Disney running events. So can I ask a silly question? What does it mean if a hotel is a host hotel? Simply that they provide transportation to the event or is it something else...? Thanks so much! :goodvibes

Disney provides transportation to/from the expo and race from host hotels. In January that includes all Disney resorts, but for the other events provided transportation is limited to select host resorts. I've done events without a car from a non-host resort, it is a little more complicated but can be done.

We didn't stay at a host hotel, but we had our own car. It was very easy to get around to the expo, parking at Epcot to get on the bus to the race staging area (no parking at ESPN:WWS for the race) and VERY easy to leave to get back to your car and back to the resort after the race party.
