The rundisney site lists the Wine and Dine weekend as nov.9-10. Will the race be Saturday night?

Yes, the W&D half is usually on Saturday night, however you should check RunDisney to confirm.

I've been checking faithfully for one, but no luck yet. I'm running the W&D to earn my C2C!

what's a c2c? :)

Hi dara00..

It stands for Coast to Coast. In a calendar year you need to do at least a half marathon in both DL and WDW to receive a special medal.

I'm aiming for the w&d 2012 and it will be my first ever race (I'm a major couch potato :rotfl:) and maybe the tinkerbell in 2013. These would be my only 2 since I'm in Australia.

cool. this will be my first race too, well besides the 5K that I'm hoping to do in june!

Hi Dara00...

I thought that I would practice with a City to Bay Run (12K) here in Adelaide South Australia. It's in September so I have plenty of time to work on my fitness so that I don't pass out

Hi Guys...

Total newbie here...

but what do I need to know about the wine and dine? I wasn't planning on doing the race until Disney changed the dates to when I'm there.

All I know about the race is that it is at night, it's a 1/2 marathon, through Disney of course and the registrations open about march 13.

There are lots of threads on the tinkerbell but I haven't found much info on the w & d.

Do they have an expo before the event with lots of vendors. Are there lots of characters. Is the course hilly. Has anyone done the race and did you enjoy it.

I'm in training and slowly increasing the k's I do each week. Not really following any method at present but just improving fitness and not injuring my foot any further.

Thanks

I've done a bit of research on the past races. There is an expo Friday and Saturday of the event. I heard there is one hill which is I think an exit ramp or something. I read a blog post about the course here. I did read that there will be characters, but I haven't found any actual reports on who was there! I'd love to know myself!

I have a horrible memory for things, but I've done both W&D races and I'll see if I can help:

-- Yes, there are characters on the course. For the life of me, I can't remember who specifically, with the exception of the Green Army Guy on one of the hills. And the characters aren't restricted to the parks. In fact, I remember more characters/picture opportunities OUTSIDE of the parks.

-- I said "one of the hills". There are actually a couple, but it depends on what you call a 'hill'. Living in FL, that's anything that's not flat (including an overpass going over a road, overpass going over the entrance to HS, and overpass going between S&D & Y&BC resorts). And if you recall, AK is a bit hilly as well.

-- Yes, there is a 2-day expo, along with kids races, and a 5K race as well. In the past, the 5K race included a ticket to the Halloween Party on the Monday following race weekend, but not sure what they'll have this year since that party will be long gone. (Perhaps the Christmas Party?)

-- The theme parks that the W&D race goes THROUGH are Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios (start at ESPN). The first year, the finish dumped INTO World Showcase at Epcot --horrible setup!! And last year we went around the back side (as in back stage) of Epcot and dumped into the parking lot/taxi pick-up area. Then, you made your way into Epcot for the after party -- MUCH better setup!!

Hope this answers some questions for you. :thumbsup2

Oh, one last thing for our Aussie friend: you won't be eligible for the CtC with the races you mentioned running. It has to be both races in 2012 or both in 2013 - you can't carry over, unfortunately. :(

Amy, did you take any pictures? that would help us with which characters are there! wow, you've done a lot of these races! good job!

oh, one more question. were any of the shops in the world showcase open? I really want to get something from morocco!

I don't take pictures - for two reasons: 1) my camera is quite large, too large to run with, and 2) I run for time -- although, I'm not breaking any land-speed records. :) :lmao:

I started doing these races because I dislike participating in team sports because of the 'ugly' it tends to bring out in people, and with running I'm only competing against myself. Also, I *love* all things Disney, so it just makes perfect sense that if I'm going to run, it might as well be runDisney! :) (The bling ain't so bad either!)

I couldn't tell you if any of the shops were open. Food booths - ABSOLUTELY!! Shops - no clue. There were some W&D-specific shops set up and open within World Showcase - and some Future World attractions running last year (unlike year 1). But after the run, I just want to eat and then walk back to the hotel & go to bed. (I usually stay at the Dolphin Hotel.)

BTW, here's a link to the thread from last year's race - maybe it'll have some helpful info?

nov 10 is my b.day! I think I might want to do this...

BTW, my birthday is 11/11!! I was *very* excited that they moved this race to this weekend, as I'm always at the parks anyway. :)

Celebrated my 40th on 11/11/11 in Magic Kingdom, with my (AF) retirement flag flying over Liberty Square. :)

oh! we might stay at the dolphin too! how did you get to the race - did you walk over to the beach club / boardwalk or did you drive yourself? I really want to stay at the Beach Club but my dh gets some sort of corporate rate at the Swan / Dolphin.

That is so cool that your b.day is 11/11! I also want to get a b.day pin and I don't know if they have those at the Swan/Dolphin! We are planning a really quick trip and the after party for the run might be the only time we spend at the parks at all. I don't think we want to spend the money for the park entry when we'll only have partial days (Friday - flying in and the expo, Saturday resting up for the race, Sunday sleeping in after being up half the night!). I probably won't be able to enjoy the after party either but I want to!!!

thank you for the link to last year's thread! For some reason I couldn't find it anywhere. I wonder if we should start an official thread for this year!
