Wine and Dine 2015

This conversation is making me think of something that I hope doesn't become an issue for me. I registered for the race using my apartment address, although my driver's license still lists my address as my parents' house address. I haven't gotten around to changing it yet. The full name and date of birth will still match, so I hope they don't not let me pick up my stuff.

Honestly? The sweet volunteers are really just looking for last name. They'll go by what's printed on your waiver, ask to see an ID and if the last name and picture matches, you're good to go. rD is really just trying to stamp out a secondary market for these race registrations.

Oddly enough I just got a call from RD. Strange. Less than 10 minutes after I posted (no I don't think they have people monitoring the boards) my phone rang and it was them. This new person kept emphasizing the runner relations tent (uh, hello? If there's documentation I can bring from home to help me, wouldn't I want to know that before I got to the tent) would be the place to go but that there was nothing they could do to change the name on the registration.

I guess the original cast member said that's what I wanted. Anyway, the lady said she didn't forsee a problem (same song and dance as the previous person) but that they couldn't do anything at this rate anyway. She just said bring something that proves I'm me, my confirmation, etc. I asked if the cover sheet from my mortgage was good enough and she said yes. So we're going to hope that I don't even have to provide it- I have a dozen ways to prove I'm me if I need to- but no one at RD seems to think it's going to be a big deal. I kind of think that if both parts of the name and DOB were both different THEN it would be a problem. They kept saying ID with last name DOB address and confirmation (whomever said that I should print that out- @Keels? @Miranda? was right on the money) showing that the name on the CC that paid for my registration is the same as the ID and all the other jazz. So we're going to assume that that's enough. End of the day I just want to be able to run.

At Disneyland, my parents weren't going to make it in in time to go get their ChEAR packages (and my Dad ended up not coming in general), but I was able to pick up their stuff by showing the credit card confirmation that I was the purchaser of the packages. Sounds like the same thing. You'll be fine - just over prepare with the printouts you bring and you probably won't even need them.

I got a call back from them too about an email query I had put in a few weeks ago about the bus transportation for spectators who want to go to the starting line. I thought that was really super weird. I usually contact customer service people via email if possible because I hate talking on the phone. You would think it would be faster for them to respond to email tickets via email rather than give someone a call back. :D

All of my long runs have been in nice 50 something degree weather so I haven't really had hydration issues.
Do you guys think I will be ok just using the Disney provided water and Powerade to hydrate during the run? I really don't like carrying anything and wasn't going to carry a water bottle which its seems like you would need if you wanted to use something like nuun.
I never drink enough during the day so I'm going to make a conscious effort the next few days to drink more.
I did get heat exhaustion, close to heat stroke once this summer and it was awful but now I'm pretty sure I will know what it feels like if it starts to be a problem Saturday.

I will definitely be running with my Nathan hydration belt because I'm a big sweater as well. This past Saturday I ran my 5k in 67* & 90% humidity conditions (woohoo Florida weather!) and it really didn't feel bad at all since it was overcast. Now of course that is a much shorter distance than a half but it makes me feel a little better about the weather forecast (though I would infinitely prefer a breezy, low humidity run).

In not so good news, I have somehow caught a chest cold (of course... just a few days before the race). I've been trying to take medicine and get lots of rest (I skipped my 4 miles I had planned for today, came home from work and took a 4 hour nap and now I'm about to go back to sleep), hoping that I can mostly kick it by this weekend. Fingers crossed!

I need about 48 oz. during the 1/2 marathon. The race program says that there 9 powerade water stops( I count only 8.) The cups are 1/2 full so we get about 4.5 oz. per cup. I plan to double up at mile 1 and mile 5 (coming out of Animal Kingdom Parking). I should be okay without bringing a bottle.

You guys it's so close now! I am so excited!!

I saved seeing Spaceship earth at night for the first time for after this race. I wouldn't go near Epcot at night my last vacation. The little things are always the best motivation.

Thought I was leaving for WDW tomorrow morning for W&D. Then my dog got into some pills. Prognosis seems okay, but he's under monitoring for at least 24 hours.

So we've rescheduled and hope to be all clear to head down Wednesday. We'll see. Happy thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks all.

I wouldn't worry too much about the heat/humidity at race time. It will be a bit warm (I live in a northern state so I understand), but the lack of sun makes a HUGE difference. If we get a breeze it will actually be quite comfortable.

If you follow many of the common sense hydration recommendations on this thread you will be fine.

I can deal with 70s and a bit of humidity more comfortably than I did the chilling rain last year.

Oh goodness. I'm always worried sick my dogs will do something right before vacation.

Aww I'm sure the puppy will be just fine! That's the worst feeling.

I'm only bringing my bottle because I want to use Nuun, otherwise I'd just stick with the water stops, doubling up at a couple, and probably be fine. I don't tend to like the Gatorade or Powerade flavors and I've never used them on a run really so I don't want to do anything new. I've used Nuun on several of my long runs and it's a known quantity.

Disney water stops are sufficient and you can double up at any of them if you feel the need.

I only take my hydration belt because Powerade/Gatorade makes me nauseous on long runs and I don't like plain Florida water. It also allows me to stick to exactly the same hydration/electrolyte/carbohydrate schedule I use at home.

I can't agree on this point since I would take last years cool rain over the conditions from ToT in 2012 (I want to say 78 and high humidity at the start) every day of the week. At that ToT, I had sweat dripping off my shorts before mile 1 and there was no way for the body to properly cool itself. Staying hydrated was difficult at best and the conditions were miserable.

We are all different, I guess. I have always done well with a bit of heat. I am a big time sweater so I do understand the hydration struggle. I run a lot in higher temps and humidity during the summer so I think that helps. Last year, however, sapped my energy and had me shivering by the end.

I would prefer a nice dry 60-65 with a a bit of a breeze, but we don't always get what we want.

I still think the current scheduled conditions will be fine as long as people listen to their bodies.

Going back to the chill towels. It was a couple of runs ago and I don't remember if it was ToT or January weekend they were handing out these. I also have the Dr Cool cloth.

This is scaring me. It will be hard to slow down to roughly a 13/mi as internally I'm used to a bit faster pace- but on top of which if we all slow don roughly 1-1:30; those who normally pace at 13-14/mi are going to be cutting it close. I wouldn't photo op too much if I were them. Heck, I might not photo op too much myself.

It won't be that hard to slow down. Your body is used to the level of effort that it takes for you to run your normal pace. Unless you force yourself to exert more effort, you'll naturally slow down as the same effort in humidity gives you a slower pace.

They were ... amazeballs. A little slice of cool heaven when I needed it. And I threw mine away like the dummy I am.

They hand out sponges during the full in the WWoS section, and if it's warm, they have the cool towels at the finish. Keep an eye out for them in Jan.
